Marie Antoinette, the beheaded queen of the 1789 Revolution, sings the first verse of this revolutionary song from the window of the former castle of medieval kings turned prison where she was held before the Guillotine. "Ah! It'll be fine, it'll be fine, it'll be fine, The aristocrats to the lantern; Ah! Greetings from Chicago. I love Gojira. Saw them LIVE twice, and soon once again in August. It would be cool if they toured with my other favorite metal band, from France by the way...DAGOBA. Some of their songs include Classical music in the mix. 1. Abysmal 2. The Day After The Apocalypse 3. When Winter 4. The World In Between 5. I Sea Red ,for example. But I think this was a 1st for Gojira. I hope they put out a Single.. or maybe it will be on a new record🤞
I've never been more proud to be Greek, a history nerd and a metal head. What an amazing performance and spectacle by Gojira. Im at a loss for words. Amazing!!!
Marie-Antoinette was the most famous prisoner there. The people brought her best friend's head, Princess of Lomballes, on top of a peak in front of her window. The only time where Marie-Antoinette fainted according to her daughter who was also there. This building had the reputation that no one left it alive.
This was without a doubt the BEST of the opening of the Olympic Games and this band making Metal stand out. This band was already known to metal lovers for its great activism, its lyrics, its simpolism, everything. For me, the charm of Gojira lies in how genuine they are, they do not want to pose as "bad", in addition to the archetype of their lyrics about real problems, and not about mutilations, murders, nuclear winters or things like that that are a constant of the gender. Added to all this is an enormous technique of interpretation, composition and a real and artistic declaration of principles, similar to bands like Tool, Mastodon, Soen, Devin Townsend Project/Strapping Young Lad or Meshuggah.
The boat is from Paris Coat of Arms and its motto "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur" meaning "She's rocked by the waves but won't sink." It used to be thought of from a revolutionary history pov and mostly used by historians but it took a whole new meaning after the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.
that phrase repeats in French: It is part of a song where Marie Antoinette listens to it at the window of her cell, before being beheaded: French: Ah, ça ira, ça ira, ça ira Les aristocrates à la lanterne Ah, ça ira, ça ira, ça ira Les aristocrates on les pendra. in English: Ah, it'll be okay, it'll be okay, it'll be okay The aristocrats with the lantern Ah, it'll be okay, it'll be okay, it'll be okay The aristocrats will be hanged.
This reminded me of Lordi at the Eurovision... When heavy metal invites itself in mainstream event it is always a blast for everyone including people who are not metal heads. This is why in this case, this was THE event of the olympics opening that everyone is talking about.
1. It id Marie-Antoinette (she comes from Austria) 2. The boat is the symbol of Paris. (As the sentence Fluctuat nec Mergitur). UA-cam could ynderstand it as Liberty, in France, is born in violence, go throught violence and go beyond it (the décapitation, the boat and the heavy métal band, and then the opéra song)
Boat is the symbol of Paris … Paris go through 4 revolutions … and here the visuals are about 1789 and Marie Antoinette and all aristocracy death during the terror regime of Robespierre
I saw gojira in 2008 open for dethklok with Soylent green in a small concert venue that used to be a church in Pontiac Michigan. It was cool and the story only gets better with time
There was also a link with french attacks November 13th 2015 which also took place in a theatre "Le Bataclan" during a heavy metal concert ("Eagle of Death Metal"). And the boat is on the coat of arms of the City of Paris with the motto "Fluctuat nec Mergitur" ("Beaten by the waves he doesn't sink") wich means Paris can face all difficulties, nothing will destroy her !

Thank for your great review 😃The boat refers to the coat of arms of the city of Paris whose motto is "Fluctuat nec mergitur" in Latin, which means "It is beaten by the waves and does not sink"🙃
there is also a reference to the 2015 terrorist attacks. The boat is the symbol of Paris with its motto " Fluctuat Nec Mergitur " which became our motto after those events. And at the Bataclan it was a metal group that was on show that night " Eagles of Death Metal "
Since you've said you like the mix of metal and opera, everyone who watches reactions on UA-cam already knows what comes next😁😉 Nightwish - Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013; one of the finest live performances in the history of music. Let's go🔥
Yes it iş Marie-Antoinette’s head. The castle is La Conciergerie where the Queen was held before her trial and death sentence. The guitar looks like a guillotine on purpose.. That scene was epic, the best « painting » of the ceremony, I feel so proud 💙🤍❤️ This band is so underrated!
It's not only a fuc*** huge song. But a representation of an important event in our french history, when the people were starving. he revolted in order to bring down the aristocrats and the monarchy in place in order to free himself from their tragic destiny... the French revolution of 1789 is fundamental in our history. the declaration of human rights written after the uprising of the French people evokes the fundamental rights that men are born and remain free and equal in rights. what our constitution is based on today...
This is was an absolutely perfect song to represent the French people. I did my research on the song and the meaning behind the song, the setting, the image of Marie Antoinette, the canon fire and the blood red ribbons is absolutely breathtaking. It brought a tear to my eye and a new respect for Gojira.
I live in France and my coworker told me that it is a reference to the King and Queen that got decapitated for the revolution of France. This song transcend history
In my top 5 for a reason. First metal band at the Olympics as well. The woman was Queen Marie Antoinette who was beheaded. "Let them eat cake!" (She didnt really say that, turned out to be propaganda at the time.) Her people were starving while the nobility prospered.
I’m a Metal fan from the bottom of my heart and I didn’t know your channel until just now. I LOVED seeing your reaction. You seemed a bit shocked during the first couple of seconds and I totally get it - I guess double bass drum can be a bit overwhelming, if you’re not used to it. But later on you obviously enjoyed it, so welcome to the (Metal) family, guys! If you want to listen to more Gojira: My favorite song is Vacuity, but since you’re just getting into it, maybe Stranded or L‘enfant sauvage are a good choice. Have fun!
L'enfant sauvage good choice. If you like the drummer, Mario Duplantier (brother of Joseph, the singer) IS one of the best drummer of the World. I Can recommand you "The art of dying" by Gojira of course where Mario is at the top of his art!
Im French. Marie Antoinette was the Queen of France, her head was cut off, like her King Louis XVI. There, it's at the concierge, which was his prison. By eliminating the King and his Queen, this is what symbolizes the end of absolute monarchy, and the beginning of the Republic and freedom, and equality between people.
The spirit of metal has reappeared in the eyes of the whole world with GOJIRA at the Olympic Games 2024. Thanks to this french group and to their unique performance which has embellished and revived this music. Their staging will remain anchored in the memory of those who love the metal and in that of the Olympic Games. A big thank you also to FRANCE who had the audacity to have a metal band play for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. (Google Translation)

Gojira has a permanent place on my battle jacket. If you want to get into metal, I’d say get more into Gijira, and also check out Opeth. Probably a little Mastadon. 😊
You should definitely give gojira a big listen. I recommend reading their lyrics as you listen to their songs. They encompass emotion ace their music reflects the emotion in the lyrics like no other. Not to mention they sing about preparing for death...
This chapter is about the French Revolution. The castle is the Conciergerie, in the center of Paris along the Seine. "Ça ira" is a very famous revolutionary song learned by all French children for 235 years. The French Revolution was a bloody period with many social changes, followed by the so-called "Terror" period. It was great to mix metal and opera in the castle where Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France, was imprisoned and then beheaded.
This has to be the coolest freakin thing I've ever seen. I never would of thought a band like Gojira would absolutely slay at the Olympics this is so badass! Lol \m/

The rolling scream you hear at the end, is the opera singer. She was a big metal fan and was in a metal band, she was an even bigger Gojira fan.
Okay, Carol's got an ear for symphonic metal. Let's get some Nightwish - Ghost Love Score going and turn her full metalhead ASAP.
nightfish its symponick metal and gojira its heavy metal they are not the same.
Hahahaha yeahh would love to try that !!! 🔥
Ha ha. I just recommended Nightwish. Wrote the comment at the same time as you.
🤓🇸🇪
@@ML_SE - for more symphonic metal, Symphony X
Or Nightwish - Dark chest of wonders
Since you've said you like the mix of metal and opera, everyone who watches reactions on UA-cam already knows what comes next😁😉 Nightwish - Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013; one of the finest live performances in the history of music. Let's go🔥
Gojira are imo one of the greatest metal bands to emerge in the last 20 years.
Of course the fire is real. My friend does their lighting
Perffffectttt 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
oh she a metalhead now
It's not only a fuc*** huge song.
3:03 Arno from Assassin's creed Unity ;)
Yes ! Arno was present all long the time. He was the guy who run everywere with the fire. He was perfect 😊
This is was an absolutely perfect song to represent the French people. I did my research on the song and the meaning behind the song, the setting, the image of Marie Antoinette, the canon fire and the blood red ribbons is absolutely breathtaking. It brought a tear to my eye and a new respect for Gojira.
Great commentary thanks for not stopping the performance
I have watched at least a dozen reaction videos to that Gojira performance and this is by far my favorite. 😅 My girl was clearly feeling it SO hard.
I live in France and my coworker told me that it is a reference to the King and Queen that got decapitated for the revolution of France. This song transcend history
Magnificent
Hi and thank you for this superb reaction, there were lots of superb things, Juliette Armanet who covered Imagine on the Seine with a piano
A metalhead is born 🤘 we welcome u to community with open arms 😁
The Duplantier Brothers are excellency doing their job!!! Absolutely awesome musical arrangement!!!
Pretty much anything by early Gojira is tight, there new stuff can be a bit soft, but “Another World” is an excellent ride as a song and a music video
En France tout est historique…^
ps: c'est un vrai plaisir de vous voir réagir a cela encore une fois..😄
welcome in France💋
The spirit of metal has reappeared in the eyes of the whole world with GOJIRA at the Olympic Games 2024. Thanks to this french group and to their unique performance which has embellished and revived this music. Their staging will remain anchored in the memory of those who love the metal and in that of the Olympic Games. A big thank you also to FRANCE who had the audacity to have a metal band play for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. (Google Translation)
The audio quality was good, it was just that the crowd was SO DAMN LOUD! That's Metal for ya.
You could also look into symphonic metal. Nightwish & Within Temptation are two metal bands with female operatic singers.
I'm a proud member of the Worldwide Gojira Collective and I was so happy to see them up there just killing it Please do some more Gojira They are an amazing band from a small village in the South of France that have risen to the Pinnacle of metaldom and made history in the process Please try the songs L'ENFANT SAUVAGE SPACE TIME FLYING WHALES AND BACKBONE for a good representation of what they are capable of doing They are a very special band and I'm seeing them for the 10th time next month Gojira is a band best experienced live so doing live reactionnvids are always a win LONG LIVE METAL AND LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY GOJIRA 🧐🤘✌️
i'm going to see them in September with Korn and Spiritbox. gonna be one hell of a show...
I wish there could be a closer show because that sounds like an epic lineup. Surprised that Korn still goes on tours...
Absolutely fantastic performance. This is one of those pieces that you listen to with your jaw dropped. This performance caused as much commotion as when the band Lordi performed at the Eurovision contest. They did something different, breaking away from the monotony and the so-called sweetness. Thanks for listening to it in its entirety without commentary on what the commentators were doing during the opening of the Olympic Games. His mouth didn’t close.
Coolest shit i've seen this year and looking back on French history metal makes sense
This is the kinda music that plays when you are about to fight the final boss holy shit
Yes the fires are real 😂
Marian Viotti , the opera singer, was a metal singer. Did you recognize the song ? It's a version of Carmen (by Georges Bizet, french composer)
Gojira has a permanent place on my battle jacket. If you want to get into metal, I’d say get more into Gijira, and also check out Opeth. Probably a little Mastadon. 😊
You're right, it's marie-antoinette and yes she was the Queen
You should definitely give gojira a big listen. I recommend reading their lyrics as you listen to their songs. They encompass emotion ace their music reflects the emotion in the lyrics like no other. Not to mention they sing about preparing for death...
This chapter is about the French Revolution. The castle is the Conciergerie, in the center of Paris along the Seine. "Ça ira" is a very famous revolutionary song learned by all French children for 235 years.
The French Revolution was a bloody period with many social changes, followed by the so-called "Terror" period.
It was great to mix metal and opera in the castle where Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France, was imprisoned and then beheaded.
seeing them in october, san antonio, with korn and spiritbox. another great metal band is Jinjer, from ukraine.
This has to be the coolest freakin thing I've ever seen. I never would of thought a band like Gojira would absolutely slay at the Olympics this is so badass! Lol \m/
You haven't reacted to Nightwish yet have you? One of the best symphonic metal band with extreme good instrumentations and vocals. I recommend a soft start with "Ghost Love Score" live from Wacken 2013. Nightwish is best when live.
🤓🇸🇪
This the most epic music performance i saw
Seriously
Listen to liquid fire, art of dying, born in winter, pray, born for one thing, the just in endless
The only one thing I appreciate as a French guy. 🔥 🔗
In Japan, "Gojira" is "Godzilla" in English.
gojira - the gift of guilt (live at brixton academy london). Next reaction
The Heaviest Ceremony of the Universe. It was a great day for the metal world. After 20+ years, finally the mainstream world gets to know who Gojira are.
