- Brontosaurus is Back!! For many years Brontosaurus was not considered a separate species of dinosaur. Now new evidence has made it real again so Brontosaurus is not Apatosaurus but is a separate species! Brontosaurus is Back!

Maybe Brontosaurus is back, but don't throw your hats in the air just yet. The problem with the 2015 study saying Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus weren't the same is that there is no standard way of picking which anatomical traits are significant, meaning there is a degree of subjectivity in drawing lines between related genera. Using a different set of anatomical markers could easily sink Brontosaurus back into the Apatosaurus genus. The question is unlikely to be definitively agreed, without the discovery of fresh fossils, in particular a Brontosaurus skull, which has never been found.
Unlike for living species, there is no official procedure for creating a new genus or reinstating an old one, and whether Brontosaurus makes a comeback will depend on popular consensus within the community. Other researchers will now need to test the evidence for resuscitating Brontosaurus. Also with the neck being longer and less wide and Brontosaurus being lighter then Apatosaurus, there are the gender and age problems. Today male giraffes have slightly longer necks then females and males fight for dominance and access to females in a unique way: by clubbing opponents with well-armored heads on long necks. Injury and death during intrasexual combat is not uncommon, and larger-necked males are dominant and gain the greatest access to estrous females. Males' necks and skulls are not only larger and more armored than those of females' (which do not fight), but they also continue growing with age. Larger males also exhibit positive allometry, a prediction of sexually selected characters, investing relatively more in massive necks than smaller males. Despite being larger, males also incur higher predation costs than females and also Male giraffes will generally weigh 2,600-3,000 pounds (1,179-1,360 kg). Their large necks make up about 600 pounds (272 kg) of that weight!
Females are shorter, and lighter, with an average weight of 1,500-1,800 pounds (680-816 kg).; the gender problem. And growth patterns of the head and neck of 65 male and 71 female giraffes from two different populations of giraffes, and also the dimensions of 19 different components of the head and neck in 8 female and 13 male giraffes, to establish if they showed sexual dimorphism and if sexual selection for a weapon was a possible origin of the long neck of giraffes. We found that in both genders, the rate of increase in head mass was hypoallometric with respect to body mass. The rate of increase in neck length was similar in both genders and faster than the rate of increase in body mass. Increases in neck mass tend to be isometric relative to increases in body mass in both genders before puberty (c. 650kg body mass in male and 700kg in female giraffes), but in giraffes of greater body mass increases in neck mass are iso- to hyperallometric in both genders, with final neck, body and head mass being greater in male giraffes; the age problem, so maybe until a Brotosaurus skull is found along with the same kind of neck claimed to be Brotosaurus as the chorus says, I'm guessing for now maybe "Brontosaurus" could really be female or immature Apatosaurus. So keep your eyes open for more information, the debate with Bronosaurus being real or not is far from over.
I bet you’re very popular at parties…
@@albertotrigilio1467 This may come as a surprise to you, but I don't go to parties much any more. Don't ask why, the reason is embarrassing.
So is the weight of the apatosaurus and the brontosaurus the same case as the necks with the genders as the males needed longer necks and blah blah blah etc
@@balamohank Well that still doesn't mean Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus are not the same. Mostly because a Brontosaurus skull has still NOT been found. That would be the only way to confirm Brontosaurus was real these days as CAT scans with dinosaur skulls can confirm it like the CAT scans which show how the skulls of T-Rex and Nannotyrannus are different. So for the time being let's wait until a Brontosaurus skull is found alongside another skeleton that is claimed now to be like the "Brontosaurus" skeleton for 2015 and give it a CAT scan and then Brontosaurus will be back.
