Chill Kill will definitely be a milestone for their career - it shows a mature change in their velvet side of being more bittersweet in a unique and charismatic way rather than going the usual RNB way of it. The instrumental and vocals tell two different stories and together it makes it a definite timeless song..... GO RED VELVET
Red Velvet’s musical versatility is so impressive! I love how they can mix their red and velvet sides into such memorable songs. And the creepy themes in their music videos are amazing!
I feel like Chill Kill didn't get the success that it deserved. I understand if it's not for the taste of everyone but I love that is so different from what we're used to in K-Pop. They are criminally underrated and so talented!
It actually did better than Birthday and Umpah Umpah (hitting no. 11) and the album is their 3rd best selling album (only behind ReVe Festival - Birthday and Feel My Rhythm.)
10 years have passed and still no one comes close to Red Velvet's musicality, versatility and uniqueness. Chill kill deserved a lot better than it got for the masterpiece that it is. The cake girls know the real deal.🌠
What's fun on listening to Chill Kill and the whole album is you can easily guess which month it got released. It got the vibe of being sandwiched by creepy October and chrismassy bright December. What a masterpiece!
it's such a good combination of both of their sides, it really feels like the ultimate culmination of everything they've ever put out over the years. incredible
I totally agree with Umu about "don't think about tomorrow" being a great message to some people. The best way for me to elaborate on it is to bring up a metaphor one character said in an anime Fruit Basket because it resonated with me a lot. To paraphrase: "Imagine you're doing a laundry and all you see in front of you is a Mount Everest of dirty clothes. You see this and feel overwhelmed and powerless, because there is no way you can tackle that. But if you stop imagining all the future disaster scenarios and focus on what you have at your feet and slowly work through it all, in no time you will realise you are done and you powered through it all." So to all my fellow anxious people, I feel you, it can be hard. But don't think about tomorrow, do your thing now cause you CAN do it ❤
WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS THAT I WAS THINKING OF WHAT I LEARNED FROM FRUITS BASKET WHEN I WAS TALKING AT THE END OF THIS REACTIOOONNNNNNNN YOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry i'm so excited, I feel like it's so rare to find another furuba manga reader out in the wild who takes its messages to heart XD
this is probably a hot take but I think that Chill Kill is RV’s best title track yet. they’ve done horror before but those songs were definitely more fun halloween-y while this one has actual horror movie vibes. a lot of people disliked this song because the chorus sounded "too happy" but i think it just adds to the concept, like how horror movies often use nursery rhymes or typically happy sounding songs. another thing is that a lot of fans theorized what the plot of the music video is, and it seems that the five girls were either raised by an abusive parent or maybe kidnapped by someone, and that’s the man whose face was scratched out. wendy goes out of their enclosement one day and somehow kills the man, and the other girls help clean the crime scene and hide the body. afterwards, they deal with the trauma and we see fights breaking out and the girls trying to comfort each other. finally they decide to burn down the house so that they can move on and as the cops catch up to them, they accept their fate while simultaneously finally feeling freed from their trauma. it’s not clear if this is the exact story since i don’t think red velvet themselves or the director of the MV confirmed it, but i do like that the storyline is a lot deeper than just “five girls kill a man for fun haha” it definitely matches the high and low energy of the song, with the girls dealing with grief and relief at the same time.
Red Velvet has the most amazing discography. I know it’s a bit of a miss for people sometimes but it’s always a hit for me. Their Red, Velvet and Red Velvet sides give them so much room to explore different music. Everytime they release a new hit I look forward to ReacttotheK reactions cause I know it’ll get broken down and I’d be able to appreciate the music and hard work for the production of the song even more. Red Velvet deserves more wins cause their songs are so musically interesting.
i’ve been waiting for this!! chill kill has quickly become my favorite red velvet title track. i’m so obsessed with red velvets songs that combine both their red and velvet. nobody can pull off red, velvet, or red velvet the way red velvet do.
This is why you must react more with SM song, because they didn't make just an "easy listening" music, but a real "music" that have a lot of musically thing that world must know
I really liked this reaction and also Umu's take on the meaning of the song. Personally when I watched the mv I thought that maybe the guy in the picture was their guardian (like father) and I remember seeing theories that maybe he was abusive and then red velvet killed him to get away from him. So, then I had a thought that maybe the song was about getting over trauma and the switch to the happiness in the chorus is them trying to comfort each other. Through all this they are wondering if what they did is right - they protected themselves from trauma but they also killed someone, so they are trying to get over their guilt and forget about the uncertainty that tmrw can bring.
Despite being a group that never took part in composition, not even in lyrics writing, in all 10 years of their career, SM seems to direct the most intriguing -- or nerve-wrecking, depending on your perspective -- work of their hired composers to Red Velvet. It could mean two things: if it fails, that's fine because it's not their flagship group and if it succeeds that's basically on-brand for Red Velvet. Simply put, SM can risk anything and win everything by having Red Velvet do all the wacky, quirky, even trippy numbers (plus like Sean said once everything is possible when you have Wendy in your team, haha). Gotta give it to Moonshine, Sunshine, EKKO, and the rest of the Red Velvet regular composers, really.
I'm glad that Red Velvet always shows the development, improvement and innovation. This song is one of the most terrific songs this year. Thank you, Kenzie & Moonshine and other composers who contributed to making this wonderful masterpiece. Thanks for your meaningful reaction as always.
It blew my mind when Moonshine said they had written the entire song, submitted it to Kenzie, and she threw out everything they had written except for the intro.
i was waiting for someone to take notice of the harmonies in the final chorus 😭 that was the highlight for me, like hearing the lower vocals harmonize with the melody.
One of my favorites by red velvet. I feel like most song reactions for RV there's at least one person that says something like 'Where are we now!!!' (4:23) and I love it every time lol.
When i first listened the song i was so confused, i didn't even know if i liked it or not, i was just processing everything, but now i really love the song, I'd say my faves parts are the chorus and the bridge, so majestic 😍 It's incredible how Red Velvet can make me like a song I'd never imagine I'd like.
I really like when people who know music reacting to Chill Kill, because they know how cool the instrument is, the chord, the vocal, and everything. While I see some people not quite like this song because they said it's too chaos or whatever.

I'm not kidding when I say that the chorus progression was the best I've heard in my life. How good it is to understand music!
I find a lot of Red Velvet songs to be comforting, but also sad at the same time. Like giving a warm hug to someone going through a tragedy.
