My mother passed away Oct 8, 2005. Her cousin sang this song at the funneral on Oct. 13, and tore me up! But I can't get enough of this song. Reminds me of that day and it also reminds me that I have to move on up a little higher.

I love Mahalia Jackson...her story is truly inspirational. You all have to check out Mahalia Jackson: The Power and The Glory, the documentary on her. Her story shows me that God will bless you no matter your circumstances. She was the most wealthy and well known gospel artist of that time for both black and white audiences, and back then, that was unheard of. They even had to create a gospel category just for her I think for the grammy's. God is good. Truly an inspiration story.

She got in so much trouble with this song because when she recorded it on Apollo she claimed she had written it. Lawsuits followed and was revealed she had heard Prof. Frye's choir rehearsing it the day before she sang it for the Apollo producer. Then Rev. Brewster, the real author claimed copyright infringement and the Ward Singers came to his defense. 😮
