Being a Naga Indian: Facing Discrimination in India & Identity in Germany

Growing up in India, I constantly faced racism, discrimination, and stereotypes because I didn’t fit the ‘mainstream’ Indian image. From being called names like ‘Chinky’ and ‘Chinese’ to feeling like an outsider in my own country.
Now, living in Germany, I face a different kind of ‘othering’-people are curious about my identity but often see me as anything but Indian. Surprisingly, I feel more at peace here than I ever did back home. I’ve found that embracing my mixed identity, rather than trying to fit into one culture, has helped me navigate life abroad.
