- Raw footage from one of the craziest sessions I've ever witnessed. After one of the practice days at the Vans BMX Pro Cup in Sydney, a heavy crew met up at Five Dock skatepark and absolutely annihilated the bowl. I had to grab the camera for a bit and document it. I guess 10 ft. airs are normal now?

If I showed up at the park and this was going down, I would drop my bike down on a grass and watch them owning the park...
mike friski was at fivedock once and i saw them doing it, it was huge

Dude I saw him do it and absolutely had to get a slow shot of it. Left what I thought was plenty of head room, yet still managed to cut him off haha.
Even 5 years later, this is my favourite video to watch before a ride. Not because it's the best tricks or even the best the riders in the video are capable of but because it's what I love about BMX. Great friends from here, there and everwhere coming together to enjoy a shared love for bikes and bowls. It's amazingly shot too which I definitely take inspo from being a filmer
I think if I watch this enough times, I'll finally be able to air out of a quarter.

look how beautiful this place is with not a touch of nasty graffiti anywhere you can see the coping and transitions perfectly
You should see it now with dirt and dead leaves the bowls all right but everything else is bad
Downside: not always the case here, like anywhere. Upside: it still gets maintenance! The transitions in this section were repainted not long ago and the flats were buffed back to smooth concrete.

even if these guys did nothing but huge airs all day without a single trick, it would be so much better than watching tiny tech tricks on a ledge or manual pad.
How to Air... watch this video haha. I wish I could go as high and as fast, it looks so fun. I can just about get a foot over a 5ft quarter at my highest.
Seems like you extend your legs or pull the bars towards you just as you leave the quarter but I'm not sure. I can never let my back tire hit the coping though... I always let the front hit but never the back as It seems really scary and I feel like I'll die. Even just doing a front bonk on the coping scares me lol
You will totally limit yourself that way. There was an old "How to Air" with Tom Dugan which addressed this. You take away all your upward momentum when you don't hit your back wheel on the coping, because you have to hop a little bit. A properly done air involves no hopping. The quarter does all of the work, and you just pump and follow the shape of the quarter. It's easier on a steep quarter, and you will notice increased height with less work if you run 70 psi+ in your tires.
Okay thanks. I have watched some how tos but people don't explain them very well or teach them very well I guess. I know it's simple but little tips would help. I can air about a foot over. I'll try let the bike do all the work for me next time.
Do I pull the bars in a little or extend my legs or anything when the front wheel hits or should i wait for the back wheel to hit then pull the bars a little?
There's a 8 foot quarter but I'm not used to airing so I feel like that would be even scarier. I can do the same on the 8 foot as I do on the 5 foot but never get the back tire to hit. I think I accidently did let the back tire hit the coping once as I was going too fast but I'lve never done it since.
