    Ms Battle is a true Manon and has all the vocal abilities to handle the role flawlessly, as she does here. Brava.

    Finally an educated audience that doesn’t applaud between episodes!

      Also helps that Dutoit does the break in time!

    I have a direct anecdote about this concert in Montreal. I was an usher that night in Salle Wilfrid Pelletier at Place des Arts. This was a gala concert with a huge reception organized afterwards. Miss Battle wasn’t happy about her performance so insisted to tape most arias again, asking the audience to sit for much longer than they wanted...all awaiting to go to the glitzy cocktail . It cost a fortune for the OSM...let’s say that Dutoit wasn’t very happy. You do notice that her looking at Dutoit is not with much love in her eyes.

    I'm a huge Battle fan, and she has such good idiomatic German, so her lack of ability with the French language comes as a real surprise to me.

      her forte wasn't french opera she excelled in the soubrette german roles and belcanto italian works.

      Her french is ok. Not perfect, but when you listen to some modern singers Kathleen seems a native speker😆

      I always think it's interesting when some people can only find something lacking or disturbing no matter what singer or song. Sad way to go through life.

    Je ne suis pas convaincu par sa prestation .C'est bien chanté ,avec toutes les notes .Mais c'est une voix trop légère pour Manon.

    She could dress, she could sing, but she could not behave ... as beautiful as her singing, conversely her behavior was her downfall ... such a shame

      I find it very strange indeed that those who find it necessary to comment on Kathleen Battle never seem to utter a word regarding the notoriously shameful diva behaviors and drunken, highly unprofessional tantrums exhibited by the operatic terror known as Maria Callas!

    • @Ronizetti
      @Ronizetti 4 роки тому

      I don't think it fair to comment on anyone with whom you've not encountered or ever witnessed - We'll let those of Callas's time speak for their interactions as we cannot.

      I have a suspicion that you never witnessed Battle's unprofessional shenanigans, unless you worked backstage at the Met... Did you?

    • @Ronizetti
      @Ronizetti 4 роки тому +1

      @@liedersanger1 - Your suspicion would be incorrect. I've worked the backstage of many opera houses and concert halls. WHY you think this could have only been observed at the Met is beyond me? - the Met was the LAST holdout and simply the final straw where she broke the camels back. You need to talk to opera companies and concert halls around the globe, it certainly wasn't isolated simply at the Met.

    • @liedersanger1
      @liedersanger1 4 роки тому

      I never said anything about her unprofessional behavior being limited to the Met. I'm sure it wasn't.
