  • ASSEMBLE THE MOTOR ON A SINGER 431 G CONVERTIBLE SEWING MACHINE. Sewing Machine Problems.
Restorations are not without some exciting discoveries! Like broken wires, disintegrated tape, and other little surprises. Exactly WHAT are those 'exciting' discoveries? They are opportunities for learning! Isn't that where some of the best learning happens? Yes! Right here in real life. it just happens that we are here looking for knowledge.
The goal of assembling the PA10-8 motor was successful. It is together, albeit, waiting for more maintenance.
NOTE: THE CORRECT NAME FOR THE 'SPACER' REFERRED TO @ 08:00-08:15 IS 'WEDGE'. IT IS CALLED A WEDGE. IT LINES UP THE 2 HALVES OF THE MOTOR CASING.

I have a 401g that needs servicing. It'd a PAB motor. I'm told they are slightly different to the PA. Certainly thr brushes are not in the same place. Have you ever worked on one? I'm scared to mess it up without a video reference 😊

Hi sewingmachinestories. Thanks for viewing! There are a number of PA Motor vids.
I sent you this link: ua-cam.com/video/xHxgbFBJeH4/v-deo.html. Check the playlists. There are 344 videos here and many of them are about PA motors. The "Singer 301A Motor" video is a PA motor. Have fun!

Tackling problem-solving is good for body and mind. The only time when we fail is when we do nothing. Having said that, I just became a proud owner of a Singer 431G that is on it's way to me from overseas and I do have a question. Are the motors from a 431G (German made) the same as the motors of a 401a, 403a and 404 the same (U.S. 110 volts?)

HEY LUCIO! CONGRATULATIONS ON ACQUIRING A WONDERFUL MACHINE! GERMAN MADE MACHINES HAVE A 220 VOLT MOTOR. IF IT DOES HAVE THE 220 VOLT MOTOR THEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET A CONVERTOR TO CHANGE IT FROM 220 TO 120V. THANKS FOR COMMENTING.

Hi, Esther from Sweden here. Thank you for your nice videos. I’m trying to fix my vintage Singer 431G. Suddenly my machine was going really slow even if I push the button on the foot pedal all the way down. First I thought something was wrong with the foot pedal, so I opened it an fixed it. Unfortunately this didn’t solve the problem so I opened up the top and found out that a thin black smoke is coming from the right side of the machine just above the motor. I tried to remove the PA motor but I didn’t mange to get it out. Do you think you can show me how to do and do you think it could possibly be the motor that is broken in some way?

DO NOT PLUG THIS MACHINE IN. YOU NEED A QUALIFED SEWING MACHINE REPAIR MAN! I KNOW THE MOTOR IS STUCK. IT MAY BE BECAUSE OF THE SMOKE ISSUE.! IF IT IS UNPLUGGED YOU CAN STILL TRY TO REMOVE THE MOTOR SAFELY. SMOKE IS NOT A GOOD THING SO EXPECT THE WORST. BUT IF YOU CAN GET IT OUT AND INSPECT TO SEE IF IT IS SALVAGABLE. i HOPE THIS HELPS. YOU CAN DO THIS! FOR ME, THE VALUE OF THE LEARNING IS WORTH MORE TO ME, THAN THE VALUE OF THE MOTOR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

@@JebbAdams Thank you so much for your answer. I will try to remove the motor once again. If i manage I’ll take some photos that I send to you if you like? 😀🙏🏻🙏🏻 Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible to attach photos and movies in the answer on UA-cam. 😅 I promise I will not plug it in again.

@@JebbAdams I managed to get it out! I will follow your instructions to clean and take photos during the work. It’s a PA B13-11 220V made in France.

@@esther8897 OH! SO YOU DO HAVE A SINGER 431 G-LUCKY YOU! LOL! YOU ARE WELCOME! AND YOUR ARE FROM SWEDEN SO YOU KNOW A LOT ABOUT SNOW! GOOD IDEA ESTHER! AT LEAST IF YOU GET THE MOTOR OUT YOU CAN SEE IF IT IS JUST A LEAKY OIL ISSUE. ON THE BOOTOM OF YOUR MOTOR ON THE BLACK END DOES IT SAY 'PA10-8'? ALSO ON THE BOTTOM IT MAY HAVE STAMPED THE CITY & COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE. THESE PA10-8'S WERE ALL MADE AT THE SINGER FACTORY IN ELIZABETHPORT, NEW JERSEY, USA. BECAUSE YOU ARE IN SWEDEN IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHERE YOUR MOTOR WAS MADE. OH YEAH ESTHER i JUST GOT YOUR MESSAGE!
