Only 10 games... that's hard! (O_o) First thing first, your list is great. Except "Dwellings" that I've never played and Onitama that I dislike, all those games were contenders for my own list and we have one crossover in the end! :D If replay value is the main factor and I could only own the base games: - *Welcome to the Moon* (my "flip & write/ light solo game" pick): Crossover! What an amazing amount of content in such a small box! And all the new variations of the solid Welcome to "system" are fun and engaging. (Runner-ups: Trek 12: Amazonia/Get on Board) - *Five Tribes* (my "brain-burning game" pick): I do love to play this one with the expansions, but the base game is enough to present you a crunchy and unique puzzle EVERY TURN! :D (Runner-ups: Myrmes/Ark Nova) - *Tarot* (my "traditional card game" pick): a deck of "Tarot Nouveau" is an essential thing to own for any Frenchman, and I do intend to pass on the virus to my children when they're old enough. I'm biased of course, but 5-centuries-old Tarot is still in my opinion one of the best trick taking game (at 5 players). And let's not forget all the other classic games you can play with a deck of card... :D *cheating - *Sleeping Gods* (my "epic solo game" pick): I've already spent many hours on this game, but I still have a world to explore; I'm far from done with this! And I feel that every play would feel different, there are a lot of choices to make. (Runner-ups: Gloomhaven JOTL, [the BOOK is essential for me!!]/Roll Player Adventure) - *Kingdomino Origins* (my "tiling family game" pick): even if you only own 10 games, you still need a gateway game that you can play with basically anyone (kids, family, visiting friends...). Kingdomino (with the "Giants" expansion) is my favorite game in this category, but Origins with its three progressive ways of playing the game is more versatile than the original game and offers a lot of replay value. (Runner-ups: Caesar's Empire [RIP Holy Grail T_T]/Takenoko) - *Last Bastion/Ghost Stories* (my "hardcore coop game" pick): Both are great and very challenging, but comparing the core games, I prefer Last Bastion; the rules have been streamlined a bit while the game feels more "rich" at the same time. Most of all, it's a little bit more doable than Ghost Stories!! xD (Runner-ups: The LOOP/King of Monster Island) - *Heat* (my "racing game" pick): The box is brimming with content, like if a big expansion had already been included in the base game. So the replay value is already the best of all racing games looking just at the core box. Doesn't hurt either that it's the best racing game ever made, in my opinion of course! ;) (Runner-ups: The Quest for El Dorado/Flamme Rouge) - *Cyclades* (my "dudes on a map hybrid game" pick): I prefer the core system of Cyclades to Kemet, Inis or Scythe (all are very good to be fair), but it's true that you do need the "Titans" expansion to make it great, and that the map could feel a little same-y after a lot of plays. No worries! *Cyclades Legendary Edition*, all the content and its new modular board are coming soon!!! YEEES!! :D *cheating again (Runner-ups: Inis/Kemet: Blood & Sand) - *Camel Up* (my "party-ish family game" pick): I'm terrible at this game (I've only won once or twice...) but all games have been fun and exciting, with a lot of stand-up moments. An essential game to own. (Runner-ups: Colt Express/King of Tokyo Dark) - *Village Big Box* (my "classic euro game" pick): That's probably the hardest pick, they're a lot of great contenders for this spot. I chose this one because 1. it's one of my favorite euro, and 2, the Big Box offers a lot of variability and things to throw in the mix (it seems by the way that I'm the only one who prefers the new look of the game...:/). (Runner-ups: Viticulture Essential Edition/Rajas of the Ganges)
@@TheBoardMeeting This game is amazing. It's my favorite Pen&Paper game at the moment, and when you think about the amount of content it offers, it's kind of a no-brainer! ;) I was afraid at first that, in spite of great reviews by content creators, the game didn't seem to have a lot of traction (like the original game, it has been completely ignored by french & European awards...). But thankfully it seems that it's a slow-burner: it's progressing steadily in the BGG ranking, and I've heard that Blue Cocker & B. Turpin are already working on a follow-up!! :D
Great list and great video! I'm going to have to think about my 10, but it would definitely include Viticulture and probably Santorini for similar reasons you included Onitama. I'd also have Grand Austria Hotel, an all-time favorite of mine. Thanks for the great content!
Fun idea - here’s mine (I’m on the lighter side of gaming) 2 player games - TZAAR and Paris la Citie de la Lumiere Small card games - High Society and Ohanami Family Fun - Quacks of Quedlinburg “Normal” games - Parks and Azul Summer Pavilion (the extra appeal of great but not extravagant components helps with these) Roll & Write - Welcome To (covers many player counts) Co-op - Horrified High player count social game - Dixit Odyssey
If I had to pick such a condensed list like this, I'd probably pick Imperial Assault. That game has a few different playing modes, dungeon crawl full coop, 1 vs all and also has skirmish mode. That would free up the other 9 spots for other types of games.
I'd have a similar mix of mechanisms, complexity and player count variety. I'd probably avoid having 2x 2p only games and other games that work mostly for 2p (Castles of Burgundy). Heat is not in my top 10 but would probably be in my 10 games owned because of how well it plays 1-6 players and how it can be both newbie friendly but you can increase the challenge with all the modules and even have a campaign. The Crew makes my list for sure and probably Frosthaven to have a never ending campaign game. Great list!
Thanks. Love the look of Castles of Burgundy as-is. Calm muted fits the mood. Need to get my original Summoner Wars back on the table. And the Loop still looks interesting - side note: Pandemic was the biggest flop for us. Top 2 for me Dominion and Innovation.
Hmm for me I’d pick a combo of lighter games for group play and heavier ones that could be soloable. Just one, Acropolis, and The crew: Mission deep sea for playing with others and Obsession, A feast for Odin, Glen Moore Chronicles, Caverna, Gaia Project, Maracaibo and Hadrians Wall that could be soloed.
Right now I think I would go for: Modern Art Scout Cryptid Turing Machine Summoner Wars Patchwork Spirit Island Love Letter Nova Luna and either Chinatown or Three Sisters! Im waiting for them both to arrive and I think at least one of them will be worthy of this list !
They did reprint de lux Castles of Burgundy :) I think Jamie rubs people up the wrong way & for me Wingspan is just fine so I suspect people feel it's overhyped. I'd go with Frosthaven as I've played a bunch of Gloomhaven. Spirit Island for coop, Europa Universalis for epic, Totaller Krieg v3, something with trains, Gaia Project, either A Feast for Odin or Agricola, Brass, dunno.
If I'm not allowing expansions: Too Many Bones The Crew: Mission Deep Sea Great Western Trail Dune: Imperium Dawn of The Zeds Sleeping Gods Pandemic: Iberia A Feast for Odin Terraforming Mars Gaia Project
My 10 would probably change week to week ;) But here's 10 without giving it too much thought, so have probably missed some A Feast for Odin Dune Imperium Everdell Complete Edition Robinson Crusoe or This War of Mine 7 Wonders Duel Heat Pedal to the Metal Long Shot The Dice Game Spirit Island Wingspan or Earth The Castles of Burgundy
Have you missed Castles of Burgundy: Special Edition by Awaken Realms coming out this year? xD
Thank you for including The LOOP!
Really enjoyed this thank you and subscribed :)

This is a great list, I'm surprised someone else put Welcome to the Moon as well. Excellent!

I am right with you talking about Dwellings of Eldervale. Have you included shards and castles into the mix?
If I had to pick such a condensed list like this, I'd probably pick Imperial Assault. That game has a few different playing modes, dungeon crawl full coop, 1 vs all and also has skirmish mode. That would free up the other 9 spots for other types of games.

Scout
Cryptid
Turing Machine
Summoner Wars
Patchwork
Spirit Island
Love Letter
Nova Luna
and either Chinatown or Three Sisters! Im waiting for them both to arrive and I think at least one of them will be worthy of this list !
Scout actually was in my top 20 because I wanted a small card game, but I ultimately decided to go with The Crew
They did reprint de lux Castles of Burgundy :)

If I'm not allowing expansions:
Too Many Bones
The Crew: Mission Deep Sea
Great Western Trail
Dune: Imperium
Dawn of The Zeds
Sleeping Gods
Pandemic: Iberia
A Feast for Odin
Terraforming Mars
Gaia Project
My 10 would probably change week to week ;) But here's 10 without giving it too much thought, so have probably missed some
A Feast for Odin
Dune Imperium
Everdell Complete Edition
Robinson Crusoe or This War of Mine
7 Wonders Duel
Heat Pedal to the Metal
Long Shot The Dice Game
Spirit Island
Wingspan or Earth
The Castles of Burgundy
Solid list
Could you do the 10 best games for kids under 10 or 12?
