DESCENDENTS AND THE PERFECT CUP OF COFFEE
Forget drugs: The undisputed masters of melodic hardcore swear by the power of the bean.
SoCal punk legends Descendents are known for three things. First, their mastery of what has now been termed “melodic hardcore.” Second, the quaint line drawing of their lead singer Milo Aukerman they’ve adopted as a mascot logo of sorts. Last but not least is their legendary penchant for consuming coffee. And not that Frappuccino, moo-latte ice-cream-shop gunk you’ve been dropping big bucks for. Here, Aukerman and drummer Bill Stevenson confess all of their coffee madness to APTV’s Bobby Makar.
The story of Descendents’ java fixation started long before Black Flag wrote the quintessential love song for the dark stuff. Here, Aukerman and Stevenson reveal their special relationship with the drink that has practically defined their band.

Yeah, I saw them play last year and the thing that stuck with me was the fact that Bill was just smiling all the way through the show.
It's also so nice to see how healthy and happy he's looking these days.

Bill is freaking adorable. They're lucky to have him as a friend and bandmate.
Back when 'Everything Sux' came out, I was working at a coffee shop in Raleigh. Knowing how much they were into coffee themselves, I drew a picture of Milo on the menu board with the day's specials.
A few days later one of the owners told me that he had erased it. I was truly shocked and asked him why. His response: 'That's not the sort of customers we want to attract'!
Incidentally, I was really relieved that Milo's recipe was the 'best' -- i.e., the most scientifically sound. Watching this with my kids, I explained to them that this made sense, though, considering that he's literally a scientist.

I once went with Karl Alvarez to a Mike Watt show in Boulder, CO, back in 1998. We stopped at a nearby coffee shop to get a little caffeine beforehand. I placed my order first and then Karl orders a 16 ounce espresso. The place literally goes silent and the barista asked "are you sure?" Karl was like "what's so weird about this?"
Those people clearly had no idea they were dealing with a caffeine pro.
I was at that show, I think. The Secondmen tour? Wish I would've known Karl was there. Cool times man!

Getting to see The Descendents in 2017 in Jacksonville was one of the best shows it was an honor meeting Milo and watching the band play their heart out
One of my favorite band interactions ever is talking to Bill Stevenson about coffee. It wasn't an interview, just talking and hanging out. Super fun.
That being said I don't know how he doesn't shit himself drinking that much coffee.

the best thing is when he had heart surgery his doctor said that he shouldn't drink coffee but nonetheless he drank around 18 cups of coffee after that xd

Daddies! You should buy a super automatic espresso machine like Phillips Series .If you adjust the grinder at number 1 you can make your bonus cup : it is like super strong espresso! Convenient with just one button . Milo I recommend for you the Philips 2200 Series it is cheap and good machine.

Grind it fine like powder and oily beans , yum.......damn i put mine in fridge too, never let it sit on the burner...now if i could just play guitar like Stephan. Used to do the instant too like mud...the best for the money is costco joses medium dark roast...its cheap and good. I have the sam coffee grinder as Karl, but his coffee is way to weak, watch the pour color.

It's no LIE! I'd sleep an hour and 15 mins in 2 days because of insomnia and I was a 3rd shift pastry chef.
Id get intoxicated and eat 20 benadryl a day to sleep for my 15 hour shift.
I'd sleep maybe 45 mins if I was lucky. Be in a daze at work. I'd drink a 9 doubleshot espresso in one go!
When if come home... my exfiance would be "you to do it again last nite?"
And shed kno! Before her I'd be outside the Liqra store at 9:55 am when they opened at 10! Av I could fix me. Caffeine is NO JOKE!!!
