I love both versions of this song! Even knowing this German version is nonsense. What it sounds like to me is Michael and David singing together, with Harry doing the boom-shaka-lakas and backing vocals. That's definitely David doing the falsetto chorus. Fun stuff!
Saw them perform their fringe-jacket clad, American version: “You Can’t Judge a Book by the Way It Wears Its Hair” back in the early 70’s. They were consistently laugh-out-loud funny for years.
This is Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and David L. Lander with a German version of their Osmonds parody, "You Can't Judge a Book By Its Hair," which originally appeared on their A GREAT GIFT IDEA! lp.
@@robfriedrich2822 The German lyrics are meaningless gibberish. The English lyrics are "hey man, don't judge us long-haired hippies by our appearance," a sentiment that appeared in several other hits of the era, such as "Hair" and "Signs."
Foreign Novelty Smash - Translation, not singable I have hard headache and doesn't feel well, I have stomachache and the bones are burnt I want a glas of cold milk, where is the hospital? You have to stay back, where is the bat? CHORUS: I couldn't understand completely, what did you say? No, he is wrong, no no no, he is right. They stole something from me, don't move. And there is too much water in the hat. I want to change 10 dollars, these butter isn't really fresh. I have a driver license, I eat no fish. Do you a sell a hat store, do you sell a train. My bra is too warn and the jug is filled with water. CHORUS: I couldn't understand completely, what did you say? No, he is wrong, no no no, he is right. They stole something from me, don't move. @@yeeyee3562i don't know you but I love you a little bit. You Can't Judge a Book by It's Hair has made me grin every time I've heard it for over 40 years since I found my Dad's comedy albums, and discovering this version made it even better. I know verrrry little German, but I could tell that the translation was wrong, and was thrilled to scroll down to find yours! Thank you!

This is basically the best record ever.
This is everything that I've ever wanted in a song.

Well, the German version is comparable to the English one. Different story, but also funny

Thanks so much for uploading this.

I wish The Credibility Gap would've sung a translatable version of this song just to see how it COULD have sounded if sung in English.
I think the first line is “Ich habe schlimm Kopfschmerzen”. That would translate to “I have a bad headache”
@@douglasmacdougal5477 Yes, and it should be "there is too much water in the *boat* "...

Hört sich an, als ob da irgendwer "die besten Verhörer" ever abgesungen hätte, grandios! Kannte ich seltsamerweise gar nicht :-)
Ich denke, da nahm man die Beispielsätze aus einem Reise-Wörterbuch.
Thank you so much for posting this. Where did you find it? I have loved the original for over 40 years and this is even better.
3 years of German classes makes this funny as f•ck to me.
I don't remember when I first heard this, but as I remember it, I thought it was as stupid then as I do now. I like it.
BOOM SHAKA-LAKA-LAKA!
Did they ever record this in English? Perhaps on the B side of this?
does anyone have this in english?
Smile4077 look up You Can't Judge a book by its Hair. Not a direct translation but it its the English version of the same song
Sorry you had to wait 4 years for it, but it's posted above, now.
Even Mr T got dubbed on German TV
Even as a German you have a hard time to understand all of it :-)
Wie heißt der erste Satz? Ich habe Schmierkopfschürzen???? Hahahaha! :-)
Ich habe schwer Kopfschmerzen.
Ich habe schlimm Kopfschmerzen
fleegen floogen flaagen laagen
you couldn't rip off michael jackson any worse than this lol
It originally was credited as being by the Asthma Brothers, a la the Osmonds. Jackson 5 had a similar sound as well, though...
