Super nice, deep technical and real handy explaination including tips how to fix it. I would buy a Kramer vt211s, but after your review it became a Harley Benton (ST20HSS). Thanks for sharing the information🙏
Man, this is the best, detailed and smart moding video I have ever seen.... great stuff I will follow you from now for sure... Thanks for the great ideas like spay connectors.... So smart...
To my ears, those stock harley benton's seem to be holding their own, maybe just because I'm listening on a cell phone. Amazing, thanks for the video ! 👍
Thank you sir. In a 20 second segment you gave me the information that I couldn't find anywhere, ie body depth and neck width /profile. We do nearly exactly the same with budget guitars. Excellent, comprehensive and informative. 🖖🏻👌🏼
You did a good job but I prefer the first pickups set (the originals). The warman set makes not enough difference between the whole 5 switch positions. They're too deep and bass even the bridge one but it depends of what you wanna play with this guitar. I have 4 Harley Bentons and I played very much with them and modified them a lot. I love HB guitars.
Just curious as to which Musiclily brass block you purchased for this. I know Amazon has several, but not quite sure which one as I want to change out the block myself. Great video and very informative.
As I found too on mine you demonstrate these are not just beginners guitar but also for Modders. I got it as a platform for putting some EMG DG20s in. I have a ton of Warman pickups too - my thinking was if the DG20s didn't work out I have the Warmans as a 2nd chance. What locking tuners (do you have part number?) did you use? I have new nut and string trees on order. I can hear string sticking in stock on (widened a little using cut off strings as small files). I didn't bother yet to change the block - great tip on the brass replacement. Although as it stands I don't yet feel the need to replace it. I was surprised how well the stock pickups rejecr noise in my environment. But they were not balanced - bridge was really weak compare to neck. The EMGs are just great - no need to shield - although with a multi FX pedal or Kemper even the stock pickups sound good (add the ZNR from Zoom and they silent at rest). Great video - anyone who got one of these as a beginner guitar should watch - you take the fear out of modding for them. A few folks feel "oh no I got a Benton and I need to change X ... Y". True on most guitars - and as we found the base model is an excellent platform for putting ones own mark on. I view it that I bought a nicely painted kit guitar that can have my signature on it. Thanks again. Great video to start my day on.
@@kevinboor3560 got one today - says Wilkinson under the covers and Musically which I guess is the distribution agent. Thicker - not sure what metal its made from (deffo not a Terminator 2) but the big bonus os the trem arm is a push in and it stays in place. Worth money alone for that!!
I always liked the color on this guitar (I actually have the Sunburst version with dark fingerboard), just one question: How does the maple fingerboard feel at playing? Is the cheap price evdent in that aspect?
I have a 1992 American made Peavey Strat knock off. The build and wood are excellent. Add to that the guitar's wood is has aged to it's prime. All else though is budget ...except the bridge which is slightly different than a vintage Fender but it holds it tuning really well. There's also a graphite nut. I thought if I swapped out the cheap tuners for Grover locking tuners I found and put on Graph Tech tusq string trees I would have the best of what a conventional whammy could do. I will hold off on the PU's as I can not decide which. It has ceramic PU's and I lean towards Strats with lots of chime. I have everything bought which I did over a few years picking up things like the tuners for $35. The guitar is black I thought i could have some fun with the pickguard, PU covers and knobs. I found a very dark green pickguard and over time the other things that would match. I had some idea of how to do it but having you doit first while I watch is killer bonus. So Thanx!
You're very welcome. If you check out the video '3 mods 2 guitars' on this channel you'll see a bit more detail on some of these techniques. Peavey guitars have a good rep as having a high quality to price ratio on the used market. Some mates of mine have them and say they're awesome modding platforms
I stuck some EMG DG20s on to the HB ST20. You can see install video on my channel. Sound demo coming soon. I just wanted that Gilmour sound and took a risk that the ST20 would be solid - it is.
The Update does not bring a relevant improvement in sound. there is no big difference in the vid. i also have changed the tremolo block and this brings 100% more sustain. after this you can´t use the tremolo because there is no room for moving animore. you have then a hardtail but kevin does not speak about this aspect. has he have another guitar? do i use a former model?
With a title like this "Best Budget Guitar of 2021?" , did it include the Squire CV Series or the Gretsch Streamliner Series and don't forget about the Epiphones all of which I consider "Budget" guitars and I do own 2 CV`s and a Streamliner don't have an Epiphone (yet). I also own the HB as presented only in the left handed version and in the first part of this 2 part presentation I explained my dislike for HB in this particular model. This may be the " best bargain guitar of 2021?" from a pile of under $100 guitars but it is by far nothing close to a Squire CV or a Gretsch Streamliner. I hope that the you tube audience is a little more savvy instead of rushing out to waste their money.
Might get the sss and the ssh versions with part of my tax return. Already have their SC Custom and DC Custom, so I completely trust them. Got an itch for some cheap strats haha. Both those with shipping to Canada will cost me less than a Squier Affinity here.

They're certainly not bad at all. The warmans are designed to be overdriven

Me too. I love the brand and the pickups are certainly decent stock

Thanks for the excellent commentary. I believe this was the block www.amazon.com/dp/B08LD3177W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_W8FXB8N57FYY3Z4A5MZ3
And the tuners here www.amazon.de/dp/B08B3NVND4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9MXV3W6E186D0WGT9SHJ?psc=1
@@kevinboor3560 ok thanks - the Musically ones. I will take a look. New graphtech nut and string trees on order.

Nice job, but I like sound of stock pickups more.

I prefer a rosewood or other natural wood fretboard but this one felt good for maple. I ended up doing it a bit more detail sanding for a slicker feel

Hey thanks for Sharing and doing this Mod! Which Trem Block is that? 36mm or 39mm? Thanks!
Exactly which block? 40mm for squier? I've got an st20 I'm trying to upgrade myself.
Greetings from Northern Ireland brother 🤘🤘
i thought the stock pups sounded better..the warmans sounded like the tone was rolled down and muddy
They're more stratty for sure. The Warmans though are designed to be overdriven. They're very high output

I love the streamliner series and reviewed one recently. Yes perhaps I should have been more specific
Nice mods but I'll also changed the pots. I put a red sparkle pickguard on and left the stock white pu covers and pu's (I don't play metal)
New pots can be a nice subtle upgrade
Hi, the musiclily item fits on the same harley benton but left handed?
I don't think so. I suspect the measurements would be wrong and the tremolo arm socket would be on the wrong side
Wow cool bro
