In search of the illusive and rare Musky fish. Avg temp around -20 for this trip on the Mercury with the coldest temperature I have ever seen or slept in a tent through. 6.5 hour drive into the North Maine Woods. 5 Part Series. You are definitely by far the best guy to watch Joe. As I've said before, I watch your videos all the time over and over. You're a good natured and laid back person. I love to see these places that you go to that are away from civilization. It's great to see big woods like that. I was hoping to make it next Sunday to finally meet you, but unfortunately don't think it's going to happen. But as always....be safe out there, and keep up the great work!

    CUSK NUGGETS!!! Nothing beats Cusk and is hands down one of the best tasting fish in Maine. Forgetting the drill is a bummer as I’ve been in your shoes trying to anchor down with dull or bent Anchors. Lol. The frequent mention of Ozzy is great to hear as growing up I was good friends with both of them. Brings back memories of the ice shack days on Ambajejus. Love your channel!!

    We found this video this afternoon by sheer chance. Somehow missed it last season but none the less another winner. I’m thinking the wood stove would have been a better option for this trip along with a bigger tent? I know one thing, you put that sled through the paces and if it can stand up to your torture tests, it has to be a worthwhile purchase. Thank you again for all you do to make these fun and informative shows. You are up there among the greats such as Gadabout Gaddis and Bud Levitt. Rock on Joe, Sidways!

    • @JoeHollandFishing
      @JoeHollandFishing  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely, would have loved having the woodstove this trip for sure, Probably wouldn't have ventured far from it. Maybe keep the smaller tent with it though, IDK its a coin toss. Either way it was an epic trip for me with so much fun and lessons learned and challenges accomplished.

    Joe, I agree "anything can and will go wrong when you are out there" ... I am just getting into your videos - fantastic by the way....saw you have trouble with the dull ice anchors...here is a UBI : take a good anchor and make a hole, remove that anchor and insert a dull anchor into the good hole, to get you through the trip until you can sharpen the dull ones at home...I also agree with the comments below about easy going and laid back as this is why we venture out in the first place...

    Hi Joe, I stumbled upon your channel with your recent Expedition purchase. I own the 2020 Expedition Extreme, which I just love…..it is truly the best sled I have every owned. I was so excited for you on your new purchase…..that 900 ACE sounds like a beast. I live out in Alberta Canada and do a lot of mountain riding. I use to own the 1200 Grand Touring back in Ontario Canada, so similar to the 900 ACE I would imagine. You just seem like a genuine guy and it is so nice to see you get something new. I am not much of a fisherman as I have gotten older, but loved it growing up in the Muskoka’s. I will tune into the rest of this trip to see what you manage to catch. Looking forward to your sled review maybe at the end of this season.

Ripped the plywood long ways into 3x 16 inch wide pieces, Rip the 2x4 lengthwise in half. Screw the 2x2 pieces under the sled rails, not full length. Screw a top piece as a "nailer" to screw the plywood into. Also have an inside 2x2 on every corner to screw to. I will try and shoot a closeup next series.

    Love your videos Joe!!! I'd love to build a Brandon box for my otter! Are you able to post plans for it?

    We don't have Cusk in the midwest but some of our lakes have burbot (aka lawyer) and it's delicious! It's a member of the Cod family and I'd take that fish over almost any other fish.

      Oh it’s the same fish, we call them cusk here. Fish of many names. Mariah, burbot, cusk, eelpout, to name a few.

      @@JoeHollandFishing oh OK. When I did a quick search on it they appeared to look the same but the native range of cusk looked to be on the east coast and Europe. Well if they are indeed the same fish there is nothing better!

    Pretty sure I know where you were. My son caught his first Muskie there this year and we are planning to go in a few weeks. One fish in Maine I haven't yet caught is a Muskie. I want one bad. He said they're pretty tasty.

      For sure. We have a few different places where we can fish for them through the ice in Maine and they are in more bodies of water for open season. My Buddy says they are the best eating fish in Maine. They are by far the hardest fighting in my opinion and also the prettiest. Lot of lessons learned from this trip if you need any more info other than on the video.

    You running your heater with a filter? Buddy heaters are known for plugging the regulator if you use a hose setup.

    How is the bone situation with cusk? Caught a few,never thought to try and eat it. Heard they are quite a delicacy on more than 1 channel. Filet them or what?

    Joe, why couldn’t you use the chainsaw to cut a spot for your steal pins in the ice and if the cuts are too big just dump water in around them. They’d freeze in quickly.
