Ok so I couldn’t do it at first but I really watched the video over and over and I kept trying and then I got the first little bit so I just kept doing that to progress while also focusing on what I do. It works guys lol it takes practice and patience
My boyfriend is struggling to learn my native tongue (no pun intended), especially when it comes to rolling r’s so I wanted to send him a video. This is perfection!! How did I never think of using the word butter to teach him. I am confident that his video will have him rolling his r’s before our trip to DR. Thank you!!
I appreciate your teaching style so much. I was so optimistic after finding this video and I wish I could say I've had success. But my tongue just doesn't seem able to work this way. At this point I've resigned myself to apologizing in advance for not being able to roll the R when I speak to someone in Spanish.
Holy crap, seeing your tongue vibrating was enough to kinda set it in for me! This is actually crazy, I've tried so many times, gotten so frustrated, and it took seeing it with my eyes to visualize what I needed to do in my mouth. I still need practice, but thank you so so much 🙏
Ive watched a lot of these videos, and it feels that way at first but with lots of practice these videos are helpful. This specific one helped me out a lot
OMG! Halfway through the video, while repeating " drama," I began rolling my rs or flapping my tongue like a flag in the wind like a Spanish speaker!!! Wow Muchos gracias for this beautiful lesson. I have been trying off and on for a long time with little results until now
I never had a problem rolling my “r”. The trick is the position of the tongue. However, certain words like “barrio” are a little difficult because the accent is on the first syllable but if it were on the one just after the “rr” instead for some reason it makes rolling the “r” much easier. I don’t know why. Anyway, I have practiced that word and now it is not a problem. If I have a problem with Spanish pronunciation it is always to remember to pronounce the Spanish “v” correctly. I know it should never sound like English “v” yet that is what I hear a lot from native speakers. I have been practicing that for a while now.
Omg this girl did not lie, I’ve been trying to roll Rs for literal years. You got me doing it and actually FEELING the difference in less than 5 mins. Just goes to show you, ask the questions folks. Don’t just wait around for an answer like I did for too long. 😂❤
Don´t worry, it´s difficult. Even some spanish speakers can´t. I learnt how to do it "right" when I was 25 years old! And I say "right" because I don't do it perfectly. I can only keep the sound off for a second or two. Practice "RRRRRRRRR" like a motorcicle.
I thought the same till I reaaaaally tried and made it finally with that video. I watched 20 videos and used all together. That video helped me being a respected gringo around my latinas and I LOVE IT!
Thanks for this. I am learning for Welsh-and simply because after 65 years I would actually like to be able to do this!😂 After watching other videos, I am at the stage of producing a trill for 2 to 3 taps on the ridge behind my teeth. What you say about it being like learning to play a wind instrument is very helpful and when I am not sitting in the same room as my husband😂I am going to give all your tips a try! I am looking for that sustained trilling sound.
Girl your tips have me so close in just one night after trying to do this for years!! My r is still sounding slightly more d but there is flashes of it coming out right and seeing as I couldn’t for a second my even the r/d sound roll before that is huge! The drama word helped so much!
So i can put the tongue where it needs to be and blow but i dont know what to do after that and how to produce a sound like how do you make a sound while blowing out
Don´t worry, it´s difficult. Even some spanish speakers can´t. I´m a spaniard, but I learnt how to do it "right" when I was 25 years old! And I say "right" because I don't do it perfectly. I can only keep the sound off for a second or two. Practice "RRRRRRRRR" like a motorcicle.
HAHAHAHAHAA!! This video is too fun! Good job. For someone who RARELY rolls my "R's," your exercises helped me to do the trick! The test at the end is hysterical. Thank you!
I can’t stop making the trill sound in the back of my throat, like the Russian r. So my rr’s are REALLY hard and guttural. However I can do it with words like “barrio”
Ok I think I got it guys! Say the word “breath” freeze keeping your tongue in that position and then blow out. And you should get some sort of vibration effect
I really wasn't expecting to be able to roll my r's from this video but I DID IT!! What helped me talk my first step was the word "Drama". I noticed that there was a certain position that my tongue takes as I'm making the r sounds and that's where I got most of my rolling r sounds so I kept practicing. I think I practiced for like 4 hours straight though, BUT I think at least half of those hours was just singing to slow Spanish songs and perfecting my r roll by repeating random Spanish words. I'm going to try to practice with it everyday so I don't loose my roll too fast
Learning for Italian, at least now I know that I’m putting my tongue in the wrong position. Thanks ☺️😂. Omg I actually did it after watching it a fourth time 🎉☺️.
Thanks a lot, I have Afrikaans genes in me , so I find I easy to roll my Rs, all you have to do is say "Trok" but with your tounge just behind your front teeth. Practice and I hope that helps!
Got it! I think you have to “think” move tongue from back of roof of mouth to behind teeth while blowing air, and it makes that cool trill sound! Just keep doing it and you will really surprise yourself. Now to practice with words with rr!😊
Don´t worry, it´s difficult. Even some spanish speakers can´t. I´m spaniard, but I learnt how to do it "right" when I was 25 years old! And I say "right" because I don't do it perfectly. I can only keep the sound off for a second or two. Practice "RRRRRRRRR" like a motorcicle.
I do a rolling R sound in my throat and it feels very unnatural while speaking (obviously, because it is the wrong way to do it). But I just physically can't do it with my tongue. It won't flap, lol.
You’re amazing!! You’re helping me so much with my Spanish:) the r sound was my biggest complex when I’m speaking Spanish because I really can’t pronounce it but I have the impression that with you’re video maybe I will be soon with a bit of practice able to do it so thank you so much
I think the difficult part that a lot of the teachers don't properly explain is how are they blowing out of the mouth. Are you blowing off the side of your mouth? Are you using your teeth as part of the process of blowing? Are you clinching your teeth at any part of your mouth?
I have exact same questions! Videos like this are good at explaining the tongue position, but then they go "now just blow and there you have the trill". Only, many of us don't. I think the key is that it does take time and practice, it can't be done in 5 minutes (unless you could do it already).
Lucia, what’s with the ice cream truck music in the background? Thought I was going crazy looking for the ice cream truck to drive by on a hot day here in Pennsylvania. Love your happy attitude in your videos. Keep them coming please.
For some reason I cannot control my tongue at all! I have absolutely No muscle control... I need to fix that before Spanish class, any methods? Nevermind, I just got it!
This was an excellent tutorial. I think the hardest part for me was knowing to give it a "strong gust". I was too weak with my airflow so it never came out when I wanted to. Also your distinción is lovely! Too bad I'm learning Italian LOL
Everyone else I’m trying to learn Spanish but this is a hard trick. Me: I saw a pretty girl pronounce Gordita, as in the taco, and she made it sound sensual without trying. I NEED THAT ABILITY!!!!

Practicing “drama” but with a Spanish R really helped me figure this out! Thank you so much

Same here. It's frustrating.

I did it! I could do the normal 'r', but once she said "blow air" at the same tongue position, it came out naturally like a motor.
I just say tssssss everytime 😢 too tensed up XD sillly german

Woo so great to hear! Congrats on getting to do the RR sound 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 and thanks for watching and commenting 😊
This was just 6 minutes and 47 seconds of you flexing about your rolled R's and I still have no clue how that is physically possible...

I can’t do it. For years I’ve tried solo soy un gran hombre blanco I can’t roll my rs but I can speak Spanish.
I am almost getting it thank you for the great video. I had to take a break because I was getting dizzy from blowing out so much.
Be careful with the dizziness, when you master it you won't get dizzy doing it 💪🏼💪🏼 I'm sure you'll get the RR very soon :D have a nice day!

1:02 No way! How is that possible?!!
It’s not about folding the tongue. It’s about creating a suction that holds the tongue in place.

My cat started barking at me.
You are awesome! Thank you for this lesson. It has been very hard for me to roll rr's. Does not come naturally to me. This helped.
Very glad to hear it helped! 😄😄 A little practice everyday and you will become a pro!

it worked thank you so much, it took me an hour of looking for a proper video!
3 seconds in “can you do this?” … no. 😂 My tongue is just a fat, unarticulated hot dog.
I still can’t roll my rs for long, but I can roll them for long enough to say words now! Thanks, and great tutorial !
In Dutch, we have the exact same 'r' in the northern provinces above the great rivers! People from Brabant and Limburg will struggle though :)
Ohh I didn't know! Very interesting! They will be more used to hearing the R sound at least in Brabant and Limburg?
I do a rolling R sound in my throat and it feels very unnatural while speaking (obviously, because it is the wrong way to do it). But I just physically can't do it with my tongue. It won't flap, lol.

I’m sitting here in rage crying because I can’t roll my r’s
Same 😭😭 like idk what my issue is, either I’m not doing it right, my tongue is too dense cause I have jaw issues, or my tongue tenses whenever I blow
I can only do it slowly 💀

I have the same thing I can only use my tonsils but I think we can learn it the other way if we try
thats the uvular trill and its used in french
My roll is even further back - I can't roll my Rs, but I can roll my arse.
I'm just spitting everywhere 🤣
Thank you!!! I kept using the back of my tongue instead of the tip of my tongue and I sounded like I was gargling water 😅😂 this helped so much

My whole life I thought I was rolling my Rs properly. TIL I've been doing the French R and now here I am..
No foolin, drink a little bit of milk or coffee with creamer in it before you practice. I swear it makes rolling your Rs so much easier.
I’ve just accepted this is one thing I’ll never be able to do lol I can do it by blowing air but if I try to implement a word it doesn’t work 🤷♂️
