"He sputtered, slamming his phone down on his carefully crafted maple desk.” Ben's clearly got a thing for hardwood furniture. And so, I present to you, the story he clearly WANTED to write, but was too ashamed. Continued from that point: "He had no idea how to deal with this news. He turned his back on his delightful, real maple wood desk for a moment, before turning around once again. Perhaps he could call in his team, he thought to himself, as he gently stroked the wood, feeling the sensual grain underneath his fingers. No, he didn't have anyone that would be any help here. In his frustration, he placed his head against his smooth, cold hardwood desk, absently playing with the drawer handle. At least his handcrafted maple desk was always here for him, steady in uncertain times, always sitting coquettishly behind him as he made calls, as if waiting for him to realize that it was here for him all along. The absentminded fidgeting turned into long strokes of the stained and polished surface, hand slowly moving downwards to tweak and tease the underside of the desk, feeling the rougher grain under his fingertips. He covertly glanced behind him, but the sensual and provocative walnut door to his office was locked and closed, providing him with the privacy he so desperately needed in these trying times. The curtains, too, were closed, the cloth draped loosely over the mature and tempting oak window frame, knots in the wood just barely visible from under the navy-colored cloth. He tore his eyes away from those tempting furnishings, focusing on the desk underneath him. His tie had managed to get caught in one of the finely designed drawers, and as he pulled back momentarily, it was pulled off of his neck. He smiled at his desk, understanding perfectly, before giving it a swift slap on its detailed paneling with the palm of his hand, relishing the sharp sound of flesh on wood. The splinters would be unfortunate, but they would be worth it. They were always worth it."

Despite Shen Bapiro's shameless propaganda, the overwhelming majority of Iranians are pro-Western and against the current Islamic regime, and there is only a tiny extremist minority (who have most of the power and money) who resembles Shapiro's portrayal. Ironically, the kinda people who do think that way are crazy right-wing dickheads who, like Mr Shapiro himself, think (islamic) conservatives are special and always right, and everyone else is wrong.
It looks like you are describing a book someone else would write to satirize of Ben Shapiro. Are we sure he wasn’t just mocking his own audience when he originally wrote it? I am kind of sad for him…
Also, this is a really minor thing, but Iranians aren't Arabs, they're Persian. Calling them Arabic is one, grammatically incorrect (Arabic is the language, Arab is the term for a person) but also two, is just factually inaccurate and shows that Shapiro doesn't even have basic knowledge about the Middle East.
@Bracklinn Norah great point but it's important to say that not all Iranians are Persian, as Persians are an ethnic group that makes up roughly 65% of the population of Iran. So while a majority there are still over a dozen other ethnic groups, notably the Azeris, Kurds, and even some Arabs. In general the idea of Iran is meant to unify the peoples within historically united region, rather than make the state just some sort of greater Persia.

so the cut trough a car is just plain strange, still a bridge cable holds a loot of energy and it snapping would make some serious damages, less cutting and more mangling/reducing to a pulp though
I want to know how there was time to notice it, shout a warning, and have the old man follow the woman's gaze. I'm pretty sure a cable moving fast enough to do such damage (and to be fair, a snapping bridge cable has enough force behind it to do a lot of damage) is moving a bit too fast for all that to happen.
i mean, i've heard that loose heavy duty cables can do a lot of damage when they swing so like...maybe yeah, just checked, high suspension wires can do that sort of thing, considering how heavy they are and how much stress is released when it snapped so it's not unbelievable

Their primary function in this story is to be as neutral as possible, and this author has no strong feelings about that "goal" whatsoever. You may decide for yourself whether our protagonist's purpose has been met, and therefore choose the ending at your discretion."
One thing I’ve learned about propaganda is that sometimes it’s not about making new converts; it’s about convincing the already converted that their ideology is still relevant.
@William Hancock I never realised that white American nationalism has been around for 2,000 years man, I wasn’t even aware that there were white people in the Americas two thousand years ago. For heavens sake of COURSE ideologies become irrelevant over time. An ideology is a response to a social issue. It’s expected for them to at some point become irrelevant. I don’t think that the ideology that white Americans need black slaves to work in farms otherwise ‘the economy would crash’ is still relevant today. The ideology held by most doctors and psychologists in the late Victorian Period held that women develop panic disorders because they have penis envy isn’t what I would describe as relevant either. Plus literally anything that the Nazis ever said. Is blaming all of your country’s problems on the fact that Jewish people exist in it still a relevant ideology to today? Or would we say simply say “we’ve moved past that”. Because if you haven’t then that’s genuinely concerning.
@William Hancock this response is so weird and nonsensical I don’t even know what I’m suppose to say to it? Christianity is not a political ideology?? It’s a religion?? Ben Shapiro isn’t Christian, he’s Jewish??? Why in God’s name would you even bring Christianity up in response to this guy’s comment???? The themes of Shapiro’s novel centre around extreme white American nationalism; Something which naturally breeds hatred and distrust towards anyone who isn’t a white American, which you can very clearly see demonstrated in Shapiro’s book. That’s why I brought it up. I also love that you focused more on the silly joke I made rather than the actual thesis of my response so good job.
No shit sherlock. But that's not just true in propaganda but literally in every type of media we in take. Shapiro isn't trying to convince leftists to side with him, he's feeding off his already established right wing audience. This is the literal truth in everything. Converting people to different sides in politics is near impossible, even after countless debates. The only way someone gets converted is if they either didn't truly have a side to begin with or are unhappy with the way the party is moving. It's the entire reason political discussions are pointless...Nobody's changing their opinions no matter what is said.
@@AllMightyLordOfClams I mean everything he's said is right. You literally said it yourself, that if people still haven't moved past those old ideologies then it's genuinely concerning, but the fact is some people haven't. Whether or not it's a bad thing doesn't matter, that proves it's relevancy.

The problem with politically conservative books is that the main characters are usually Mary Sues. Badasses with no depth or struggle. Really just uninteresting arcs. Plus, the conservatism they push is the most elementary stuff. They don’t really explain why their moral system is the better one, just that it is. They don’t try to convince the reader that the main characters outlook is correct, they just expect you to already agree with them. They are preaching to the choir so to speak. Not ALL of them are the same, but there are definitely a lot that follow this shallow model.
I've heard it said that the problem with writing about a character coming up with an amazing plan is that you, the writer, have to come up with that plan. And then Ben decides that Brett can just escape his captivity off-screen during the rescue.

That's like saying "cars can do no wrong, let's let everybody use them" when we all know that cars are very capable of killing people and only licensed drivers should drive them. It's okay to own a car, as long as you know how to drive one. Same with guns--you can own one, just know how and when to use it.) 3. I can't believe Ben Shapiro came so close to understanding the feelings behind why terrorists do what they do, but then instead of having a revelation and changing his rhetoric from anti-Islam to anti-terrorism, he just. Fucking excused terrorism. As long as it's "for America." Like. What?! 4. Gotta love the big man count. Damn. I think that the fact that this book is so nonsensical is a huge indication that Shapiro himself is nonsensical, and so are all of his "arguments." There is a way to make that make sense. Like if the saudis funded environmemtalist groups to commit various felonies against Big Oil.Which would obviously lead to a lot of negative publicity. Ie discredit the movement. Or they provided funding to the most extreme types that no one takes seriously. Controlling the opposition through discrediting them by having it use extreme methods is a tried and tested tactic. But you need to actually establish that in story.
@@florinivan6907 If you tried that, you’d probably have to establish exactly what felonies they are performing, not to mention why the Saudi Governments would go for actual environmentalists, something which could go very wrong, very quickly, and also that at this point, people would still support them in spite of this. This just comes off as Ben Shapiro thinking: “Hmm, two things I hate. Let’s put them together!”
@@samuelbarber6177 As I said there are ways to make this concept work. For example saudi funding could go towards environmentalists with completely over the top ideas say return to a hunter gatherer society while groups with normal ideas find that their funding is no more for some reason. Every group no matter how well intentioned will have some kooks and the opposition might very well find ways to promote those and discredit the entire movement. A good writer can come up with a very compelling narrative by having the 'good guys' be secretly manipulated by the 'bad guys'. But this requires knowledge of how such things are done in real life something that Beny doesn't know.

I was stunned when I discovered that. However, by the end of the video, it makes a ton of sense. Ben over uses metaphors and similes because the rest of his book is telling. The escape scene alone could have been prepped with Brent, er I mean bent, wait no Brett, studying the layout of the area as a matter of routine when he got there. If you know the character picked up the habit then write a scene where they do it. Better yet, write a few scenes, spaced out, where they do it. Also, give a sentence or two to him creeping out of the basement at least. It doesnt have to be a whole thing but it cant just be teleportation, "he lost them in the hotel and then found himself on the street, alone." vs "Brett huddled by the pipes, his breathing had become more steady and his heart almost back at resting rate. He couldnt hear anything compete with the hiss of the boilers so he tiptoed back the way he had come. His heart began to pound again as he crept towards the lobby. He peered around the corner and scanned each face. All clear."

"He had no idea how to deal with this news.

Shapiro and others seem to always imitate Ayn Rand. She wasn't good either. They all miss what 1984 did right: being "real". Their ficcional worlds are populated by binary beings. The men in Atlas Shrugged are such a heroes they give away their lover just because it was... rational!!

Cyberr !! “I want political novels without politics”
One thing I’ve learned about propaganda is that sometimes it’s not about making new converts; it’s about convincing the already converted that their ideology is still relevant.
@William Hancock I... what the bloody hell are you on about
@William Hancock I never realised that white American nationalism has been around for 2,000 years man, I wasn’t even aware that there were white people in the Americas two thousand years ago.
I got Ben Stiller confused with Shapiro.

Not ALL of them are the same, but there are definitely a lot that follow this shallow model.
i can enjoy a mary sue, but if its just a mary sue just to be a mary sue its so uninteresting

Um, I'm not a military expert, but it's said Brett is a military general. Am I the only person who's questioning why a GENERAL would be such a precarious situation? I mean when you say general, I'm expecting someone's who controlling a given situation from a safe - or a relatively safer - vantage point; not someone in the thick of things. Wait, uh... Ben Shapiro... wrote a book? As in a non-fiction STORY? He doesn't just strike me as the sort of person who would be terrible at that. He strikes me as the sort of person who would HAVE TO KNOW that he'd be terrible at that.
He also wrote a collection of short stories. They're even worse.
The fact that his fiction wasn’t well received probably explains his saltiness regarding "liberal media".

All you have to know about Ben 'Little Buddy' Shapiro is that when asked about American workers losing their jobs to overseas cheap labor he just laughed and said too bad. Fun guy.
The justice for those who falsely claim to champion one tribe against another is to be impaled by both. I'm pleased to see that manifest in this comment section.
Ben blames those who lost their jobs (or not getting paid well) for not taking better jobs. The guy hates working class _that_ much.

1. That prologue--why didn't the mom just grab her daughter and run? That's better than sitting in your car, going nowhere, just waiting to die. I mean, I know that shock is a part of it, but normally you get at least one or two people in that situation (if not more) getting out of their car and trying to get off the crumbling bridge.
2. Somehow I don't think shooting the cellophane of a bomb would disable it, I think it would set it off, but, you know, any excuse to make guns look good (and just to be clear, I'm not anti-guns, and I don't care about people owning them legally, I just don't think trying to make it seem like "guns can do no wrong", which is the standard ideology for the conservatives and NRA, is a good idea. That's like saying "cars can do no wrong, let's let everybody use them" when we all know that cars are very capable of killing people and only licensed drivers should drive them. It's okay to own a car, as long as you know how to drive one. Same with guns--you can own one, just know how and when to use it.)
Damn.
I think that the fact that this book is so nonsensical is a huge indication that Shapiro himself is nonsensical, and so are all of his "arguments." Also, the fact that he keeps on projecting problems with America onto other countries (police brutality namely) is further indication that he shouldn't be taken seriously.

‘Environmentalists lobbying against oil funded by the Saudi Governments.’
That doesn’t make sense.
There is a way to make that make sense.

Seriously?! I mean shit. Listening to it I figured he did know really anything about pacing. (Among other things about writing) But seriously, it sounds so bloated that I thought you were just giving a rundown of the entire book. Not, here is what the first chapter is about.
All clear."
