Yorkshire Saxophone Choir was the first independent 12 piece saxophone choir in the UK and, to our knowledge, remains the only such ensemble. The group was formed in 2001 and comprises saxophonists from across the Yorkshire region. It performs as a chamber ensemble, with a wide repertoire including classical, jazz, pop, contemporary and world music, and has commissioned a significant number of new works and arrangements. Yorkshire Saxophone Choir performs mainly across Yorkshire and occasionally as far afield as Wales. Its first CD "Sax for Twelve" was released in 2009, comprising a range of original works and arrangements for 12 parts. The ensemble celebrated its first decade last year with a concert featuring two world premieres and a UK premiere, as well as the Ibert Concertino da Camera with the internationally renowned saxophonist and the group's musical director, Sarah Markham, as soloist. Yorkshire Saxophone Choir also performs as a 10, 11 or 8 piece ensemble, and will feature a ten piece line-up for the World Saxophone Congress in a programme showcasing the work of contemporary British composers. Yorkshire Saxophone Choir is going from strength to strength and looking forward to many more highlights in its second decade.
