Not sure if I'm going to use this new knowledge for good or for evil yet
Im using it for evil
😂
Seems to me as though testing is required. LOTS and LOTS of testing.
The only uses are evil, unless you think flat, semisolid beer that starts too concentrated and ends watered down is a good thing.
I've known people to say, "I want this beer to cool off fast, so I'm putting it in the freezer." Then they forget about it. The resulting slush is not very good.
I've tried this before many times...and every single one of them was by accident.
😂
Finally! I'm ahead of the curve on this one. My slushies were not intentional though. It was forgetting I put some beer in the freezer to chill it when there were no cold beers in the fridge.
Me too! I love my beer super ice cold, so I put it in the freezer for 45 to 50 minutes and then transfer them to the fridge, been doing it for years🍻
THIS
This works for a bottle of soda too.
I had some leftover dry white wine which I put in a Mason type jar in the freezer. One evening it was warm and muggy....I added a bit of sugar to take the sharp bite off the wine and got to enjoy an adult slushy. Caught a mild buzz too.
I’ve done this hundreds of times, never intentionally. As a beer freezing expert, I recommend that you’re very vigilant if you use Stella Artois beer. Their bottles are the thinnest I’ve ever seen and they love to shatter in the freezer if left too long. Some beers bottles are better or worse at handling freezing the contents accidentally because you forgot. Stella Artois is the worst when it comes to how easily they shatter and the mess they make. Yeungling is on the other end of the spectrum. The cap may pop off, but I’ve never had one shatter.
Are you from Pennsylvania?
@@nellgwenn Unfortunately, I am not.
America's Test Kitchen, This is fantastic! I subscribed because I love it!
You can also do this with soda!
I discovered this by accident about a year ago-not with beer but with carbonated soft drinks. After the initial rather colorful experience we began tweak the process just a bit and use the application for a broader range of beverages/occasions. I thought it was due to the beverage being opened and suddenly exposed to air. Thanks for explaining this.
This works great with ciders. I discovered it by mistake and by planning poorly.
Ive accidentally been doing this for years by forgetting i put a beer in the freezer to cool it down.
Never wanted to consume it after though
Is it just me who's beers explode in the freezer?
🤣🤣🤣 #guilty
use a timer next time 🤣
@@yangyuncong 🤣🤣🤣
Put them in the fridge before the freezer so they're already cold before you freeze them. You can easily freeze glass if you do it gradually.
Mostly with cans
Need even MORE Dan! Could watch him all day. ❤
Snowbank beer. We drank more than a few of those as teens.
Looks nice and refreshing! One nitpick - I don’t think that was an amber ale … but I think that would still be a good choice. It seems like “macro” beers work better for this? Can’t wait to try this after some summer yard work!
Decades ago, after accidentally leaving a cooler of beer in a cabin closed for winter on the north shore of Lake Superior, I learned of this taste treat. And it’s even good on a cold winter day!
I recently discovered this on my own. I forgot to put my canned beer in the fridge so I stuck it in the freezer but forgot it. Two hours later I went to get it. I was still able to pour it into a glass but it was slushy. I. was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing it was.
Im inpressed in your videos
This is the way!❤
That’s cool.
Does it only work for beer? Would pop do that, too? (I need to go back & listen more carefully to what caused that reaction.)
you can use the soda bottle as well
I've done it with tea, soda, gatorade, water, and beer.
WHAT ??? !!! You had me at beer !!!!
This happened to me with just a closed water bottle I left in the car one winter when camping. It was still liquid. I opened it and tried to take a drink, and as soon as it hit my lips, it iced up solid. Sadly, I was thirsty and would have appreciated cold water at that moment
What is device agitating the ice cold bucket container on the counter?
Would this work for hard cider or hard lemonade? Asking for a friend...
I enjoy beer every now and then and I always place it in the freezer to get nice and cold. I've sometimes accidentally left it in too long and discovered slushy beer years ago. I prefer it in ice cold LIQUID form thanks.
Next, Dan should demonstrate freeze distillation. Transform a few gallons of malt liquor into hooch legally, using a freezer. (This is actually a thing.) There is a market demand for this technology. 😂
In the winter, just leave the beer out on the deck, and you will have less work and faster time!
Not here in Phoenix 😂
Hell yeah brother
Can this be done with cans?
Can this be done with rootbeer?
I wonder, could the same technique be used for soft drinks, like Coke?
yup
I remember leaving a Gatorade in the freezer
for too long and it froze once I opened it
Because of the electrolytes!

I love an ice cold beer! That said, I know no beer lover who likes beer slushies!
I think I need some more specifics on how to do this
There's a link in the video description.
I get why they do this or serve beer on ice in hot af South East Asian but im good lol
So what's in the ice water? An aerator? That would be helpful.
Not sure why people are so unwilling to simply try this out rather than complain about it. It costs a whole $1, maybe $1.50, for a bottle of beer. This is about as low risk as new experiences come.
because beer is nasty
I don't understand the complaints. But the being weary of trying, I can understand. Two main reasons I'd consider valid:
1. Some of us drink beer for the taste rather than for alcohol or purely social settings. Which usually means more expensive, possibly much more expensive, beers than $1-$1.5 .
2. For putting in the freezer, it requires some attention, and probably repeat efforts on the timing. If it wasn't enough time, you get the very new exciting "cold beer" 😀, and now need a series of experiments with controlled times, which is more effort. But worse, if you leave it for too much time, the bottle may explode, the timing will vary between beers and bottles, and while some will just break and make a puddle others may spray all around the freezer and possibly get you glass shards everywhere. The effort of cleaning would be a much higher cost than the price of the bottle. It's a genuine risk.
@@yarondavidson6434Or you could chill it like Dan did
@@theoriginalbridgetconnors That wastes a relatively large amount of salt (and so also higher cost), as well as a lot more ice than most people normally have in their home (so noticeable amount of extra work). Again, not at all impossible, but far from a trivial experiment that just costs a buck to try. There's a reason Dan didn't actually recommend this to the viewers for home use, and only mentioned trying putting the beer in the freezer.
Also... it doesn't really change the breaking/exploding risk. True that it substantially improves the worst-case if it happens (no need to clean, or deal with glass fragments, in the home freezer), but you can still lose the beer if you wait too much, and have to clean the bucket and try again (with more salt and ice).
For fancy, expensive beer drinkers, try this: #1 open beer #2 pour beer into a plastic bottle or container #3 chill as described #4 enjoy
As long as the beverage doesn't lose all its carbonation it still works. I've done it many times with soda.
Also you're welcome.
COOL!!! 🤣
The sound of that agitated tank is brain sugar.
Beer slushy?
Welcome to intestinal distress.
Who knew? 😊
Any Canadian who drinks will tell you that leaving beer in a snowbank for 20minutes will do this... And its not pleasant drinking once it does freeze over. I have had "Super Cold Heneiken" at Schipol airport in Amsterdam that is way superior to this slush.
I would rather die than do this.
watch out for explosion when you put carbonated liquid in the freezer
It’s pronounced Beer Woon
Derp face thumbnail
I'll give Abita a go, but Miller is not beer. It's the byproduct of a dog's thirst.
Doesn't this reduce the carbonation?
Just because you can does not mean you should.
Yea every time this has happened to me it sucks, like flat shitty beer tasting slushy. I'm trying to pound beers not sip on shards of piss ice
a brain freeze is not refreshing haha
I've had beer like this. It's a terrible idea if you like beer for it's flavour and carbonation. The freezing destroys both.
AGREE!
yep that was my question. if it kills the fizz, then I will pass although i am sure it is nice on a hot humid day
Lots of piss beer in SE Asia, usually the colder the better! A different, less carbonation-ruining alternative that's also popular is ice cubes in beer
it's called " Beer Woon" like Noon but Wun
It’s a HOPSickle!
Beer should never ever be slushy-made, slushy-fied, or slushy anything...
Something tells me this won’t work with pop.
This is great for people that don't like the flavor of beer.
Some beers taste bitter when they get slushy or frozen.
Oh yeah another good video that's half self promotion lmao
Aaah just make sure not to tell germans! They’re quite… …dogmatic… when it comes to beer.. roflmao
Partially frozen beer is not a pleasure to drink.
Not for me, it loses its fizz and has no taste.
Hm. Kinda looks like a mess.
Beer is tasteless when that cold, better at room temperature (unless you dislike the taste. In which case perhaps choose a different drink)
Why? I want to drink my beer not lick it or wait for it to melt in my mouth. I want the headache next day (well not really) not from a brain freeze.
Why?
Soft drinks, yes. Beer, no.
ALL BEER IS NASTY - Warm (British ale style), Ice Cold (American style), or even a Beer Slushy. 🍺
First
In my not so humble opinion, beer should not be served below 10° C. If your beer tastes better at colder temperatures, your beer is not good beer. If you think *all* beer tastes better at colder temperatures, you don't actually like beer and would probably enjoy something else more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You're right, it's just an opinion.
Maybe just an opinion, but it's the correct opinion.
Perhaps you would prefer something else @@jvallas
counter point it is really hot in South East Asia sometimes
Just another Asian knock-off of the real thing 😂
It feels like theres one guy at ATK who loves this and bullied everyone into making a video lol
A beer slushy sounds disgusting
Really? I'm anxious to try it.
@@jvallas Stick to the light colored stuff, I've had some accidental Corona slushies before, weren't bad. Can splash the lime on top and it's a decent snocone. Not sure how an IPA would taste.
@@Quest723The Thanks. I tried a cherry coke in a can - definitely didn't work! 🥴 But I might try again for longer than 40 minutes. (No beer in the house and it'll probably be a while, but now I know what to get.)
thats disgusting
The interest of tasting drinks bia wun-style is hardly scientific.
I'm going to try this but still hit the dislike button. ATK has jumped the shark, just not reliable anymore
I’d like to see you “turn” yourself into an ATK personality I want to watch.
Why do I want a beer slushy though
I can only imagine how bad the "brain freeze " headache would be.
But, I'd give it a go anyway.
