I always felt that Alvin went for speed and virtuosity at the expense of lyricism and musicality. Good technically, but too repetitive. I would not rate him as high as Hendrix .

Ten Years After they had the Blues flowing through their veins. One of the best groups of the seventies. I herad them in Munich play LIVE exactly five times. They rocked the crowd like nobody else! Unfortunately the brilliant guitarist (Alvin Lee) died quite a while ago already. They continued without him, but in my opinion it wasn`t the same Jörg J.

Man I love his phrasing.. back in the mid 60's only three guitarists ruled when it came to phrasing.. that's Jimi, Alvin & Eric while he was still with John Mayall.. Alvin got tired of the same old phrases by 1973 and Eric completely lost it until he started playing with bonnie and Clyde (sorry Del and Bonnie ;-)
Watching this video is almost like sitting in the audience when they were recording "Undead"!

@polymath7 My thoughts are based on the old live Cream version on UA-cam where they jam with no audience - watched it about 75 times. It's one of the best on UA-cam. So to assert anything is "better" is a tall, tall order. Let's just say they are both among the finest examples of what authentic rock music is all about - high energy, skilled musicians who are totally inside the sound, volume and burning hot vacuum tubes, transcendent emotions, eccentric style. Yeah life is good.
