Just as Jack's opening scene tells us a lot about him, this scene tells us a lot about Elizabeth. She's kind and caring and knows how to act like a proper lady, but she also has a sense of adventure, and she's observant.
it was pretty obvious they planned on having Elizabeth being the main person in this franchise and not Jack. That was the original plan, but Jack is Jack so:)
I love the way she sings a pirates life she gave it a very eerie tune while its typically upbeat. It really sets the scene with the ship moving slowly through the unusually thick fog the background music with her singing a pirates life then getting caught by a deck hand and he gets confronted by lieutenant Norrington then gives his legendary speech to miss swan. What a fantastic movie still one of my favorites. They just dont make movies like they used to.
i love the dynamic they built up between elizabeth and gibbs just in this short scene. however long it took to go from england to port royal, you can tell these two built up a somewhat amiable repertoire of some kind, despite his superstitions. hell, he left an impression enough that she recognized him years later. and i love how she immediately turns to him for translation of norrigntons words and how open he is explaining it with a mere gesture.

One of the few times the Pearl actually looked menacing.
I swear the music is its own character in this series
Norrington's "Man overboard!" line along with that water surface shot gives me chills every time!
How did Gibbs go from being on this ship to having a history with Jack Sparrow?
When I was a child, this was one of the most epic and creppiest scenes in a movie for me.
You know, Mr. Gibbs, for having such a bleak outlook on pirates, you're well on your way to becoming one...
This is one of the greatest scenes in the pirates movies, and the song is just...the beginning of greatness.
I’ve always thought it was funny how the Black Pearl didn’t want any of the Royal Navy ship, they got the hell out of there
"Mark my words."
This movie is insanely entertaining.
Still a bloody good movie, even all these many years later.

"A short drop and a sudden stop" Damn, talk about dark humour lmao

Elizabeth: "Actually I find it all fascinating."
"A short drop and a sudden stop" so simple yet so very ominous
So funny that the very first words we hear her sing are, " A Pirates Life for Me." Late she becomes the Pirate King. Destiny is interesting.
