I think it’s sweet that children can grow so attached to their teacher to the point they accidentally call them “mom”. But it’s still extremely embarrassing!
i once called my 5th grade teacher mother by accident....which makes little sense considering i despised her.
@@dakotastein9499maybe you were mad at your mom that day.
@@RevanLockheart- no i mean i despised my teacher
@@dakotastein9499that just makes it that much funnier.
I know well actually I didn’t know that because one time I accidentally called my 10th graders teacher Mom almost but then I stopped there cause I remember who my mom was
Honestly, I genuinely love Miss Grotkey's little speech/lesson near the end is actually extremely good. It's an extremely good thing to try and teach children early on
*Always liked Miss Grotkey!* Seems like she was the only one talking and doing sense in extremely messed up school and system. I would have liked her as my teacher also.
It's definitely weird to hear it in a disney cartoon, given what the company is like nowadays...
Miss Groktkey was that one adult we all needed in our lives.
You know you're FUCKED when Miss Finster's laughing at you.
😂😂
2:04 Worse when your own friends laugh at you too.
😂😂
the lunch ladies, too.
Ms. Finster: " The birds their planning something". Lol.
is Angel
*They’re
"Uh-Oh, the kindergarteners must have given helium to the gerbils again".
I called my computer science teacher mom, and it was tens times worse because I addressed that to a male. But because I was such a quiet student he didn't hear me nor the class. But I still felt really embarrassed.
I have the same thought can I have your number.... Well because we have a lot in common..mama
@@Alankhan8373 🤲🥤
Spinelli has a family friend in Miss Finster (who knew her grandmother), and emotional reinforcement from Miss Grotke. Add the Recess Gang to the list, and she's got one heck of a support system when things get rough... well, when they're not laughing at her, that is.
She should feel really lucky to have them.
Grotke gave a great message near the end. Growing up is hard enough without people being hard on each other for no reason.
True that
Agreed! Thanks for sharing!
Thats true
She's also an Ashley. Lol, so there's another list of connections.
Hey, it's you again!
I wish I had a teacher like Ms. Grotke.
I had a biology teacher back in high-school and he was like... 40%-60% similar Grotke. He was my favorite teacher and I wished more teachers were as nice as him.
My sophomore English teacher was like her
My first teacher in school looked just like her.
My Sophomore Science Teacher Has the personality like Ms. Grotke
My Freshman history teacher has a personality similar to her with very reasonable offers
7:23 "Uh oh, the kindergarteners must have given helium to the gerbils again."
😂🤣
How’d the kindergarteners get their little hands on helium in the first place is a story I would love to know
@@bennu547 For sure, same here! 😂😂
Funniest line in the show 😂
I pissed myself when Ms Finster started laughing
2:09 What's so funny? Now stop it.
I was dying too
she does her best to resist but can't and is overpowered by the laughter
I love that even finster laughs
Even her own friends laugh. 😂😂😂
*This school is f***ed!*
Laughter really is contagious. XD
Finster laughs at children pain so I can see why she's laughing.
“Stop it, stop that laughing.”
7:44 "...my life is a Stephen King novel."
Well Spinelli, as long as that novel isn't IT....four of your friends are guys after all.
Oh my.....
LMAO
I'm afraid of even reading the story for the nuances, killing an elder demon thing or not
Stop it! This is already tha Daddy episode . . .
Gretchen will find a way to join.
"You know life with you guys is never boring". Vince had me cracking up at that one.
"Goodnight, mama." "Goodnight, daddy."
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I told my 4th grade teacher I loved her once, I was saying goodbye for the day and it came out so naturally,I got so embarrassed after realizing what I said, thankfully no one was around but us!😅I did look at her like one of my aunts though!! She ended up being my 5th grade teacher too, boy was I happy!! Miss Dow, hope shes doing well 😊
That's so sweet. 😊
Dang that was a isky but mature and self-sacrificing move on TJ's part. No wonder he's the leader of the group.
I guess you are all missing the point, this episode represents something way more than calling your teacher mama, this actually goes to show that there are embarrassing situation that we and others go through but instead of making fun of them or making a big deal we should understand that it could happen to anyone and just let it slide, whatever happened happened. And yes Spinelli is super lucky to have a friend like TJ who was courageous enough to stand up for it
Stand up? Lol TJ was one of the people laughing at spinellli in the first place, when she called The teacher mama
I think everyone remembers either calling the teacher Mom or someone else doing it. Usually no one makes a big deal out of it the way this episode did, but it's still horribly embarrassing in the moment.
“Goodnight, Mama”
“Goodnight, Daddy”
Both:WTF
😂
My lounges were on fire from laughter at that part 😂
3:23 i bust out laughing when the dog started barking, "mamas gurl!"
7:18 The birds...They're planning something hahaha
(7:18) ~ Miss Finster: “What is that infernal chirping?? The birds … they’re planning something!” LMAO, I cry laughing every time I hear this line! 😂
*Prickley:* "Uh oh, the kindergarteners must have given helium to the gerbils again." 😂😂😂😂
@@DanknDerpyGamer That part got me too, LOL! 🤣
@@AspieGirlArianaHale I have so many questions after hearing Prickly say that... 😂
@@DanknDerpyGamer I just love the way he says it
I was thinking of those lines, so I searched the episode
*happened to me once* called a teacher mom.. no idea why.she was a motherly type however. She said it's understandable...
And still awkward after all those years.
Was she attractive and young? Cause that's the worst😞
I did the same with my 2nd grade teacher. Didn't have to worry about it too much. Also accidentally said that I loved her. Woe is me.
Miguel Sanchez I had an aide in school (multiple ones ) and I swear each one I called Grandma by accident once. It got so bad I told it like a joke like “hey just a warning, I might call you Grandma by accident”. Always got a laugh
I didn't call a teacher mama because I haven't got a mum
6:50...anyone else notice the placement of the principal's last name? Ooooh Disney is soooo sneaky lol
so many things we overlooked as kids lol... love this show
😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 yes he was definitely a prick
"Considering my life is like a Stephen King novel"
This is funny when you realize that two of his miniseries have ties to Recess. Allyce Beasley (Miss Grotke) was in "The Tommyknockers" (1993), while Courtland Mead (Gus) was in The Shining (1997)
Courtland Mead wasn't in The Shining. Oh, you mean the miniseries.
I'm just impressed spinelli was reading spephen king novels at age Nine.
depends on the parent like some parents let their kids see R rated movies or M rated video games then blame the movie Company for giveing their kid nightmares
wow, crazy
I remember I was so close to my teacher in secondary school that I saw her as a second mum. Even now as an adult I still talk to her every now and then and she’s proud of the man I’ve become
“You can’t make me! You can’t make me!”
Two second later:
“She made me.”
😂
Time?
Vince saying "mama" sounded cool! :D
she liked grokie so much she called her mama
You’re so funny
Slip of the tongue. Some kids are close to their teachers so much they see them as second parents. Spinelli and Ms. Grotke are close and when Spinelli saw her about to step in the mud puddle, she forgot herself and accidentally called Ms. Grotke mama
Thank god you were here to explain the premise of the episode!
XxEmoGothOutcastxX no shit idiot
@@daveacosta4166...... ok then
Or it's just an accident, thinking of your paret

Ms. Grotke reminds me a little of my 4th grade teacher. Kind and understanding
2:16 Finster stole this scene
Gave mark hamil a eun for his money lol
IKR?
2:17 even Miss Finster is laughing
"Randall, why are you blubbering like a sick emu?"
I've never heard a sick emu but I'm pretty sure it doesn't sound like that.
A bet a sick emu would have still won a war against Australia😹
*THE BIRDS* tHeY'rE pLanNiNg sOmEtHiNg
That, and Prickly hearing the sound and going "Uh oh, the kindergarteners must have given helium to the gerbils again" were both hilarious.
*YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!*
One moment later...
"She made me..."
I miss the days when you could go home for lunch.
4:34 Yoo hoo? Is Mama's little girl ready for school? Aaahhh! It's time for school dear. I'm not going! Go away! Young lady, you're gonna be late! No I'm not! I'll never be late again because I'm not going to school ever! Never never ever! You can't make me! You can't make me! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!!!!! She made me. 😂😂😂
Ms Finster laughing was priceless.
yes, even the teacher couldn't hold in their laughter
If social media was invented back then, that would have been trending with #SpinelliMamaGirl
You Tube no you didnt
9 yr olds reading stephen king, awesome!!!
Peg Bundy is Spineli's mom...the birds they're planning something....the kindergardeners must've given helium to the gerbels again ,hahaha
7:23 "Uh oh, the kindergärtners must have given helium to the Gerbils again."
I JUST LOVE SPINELLI !!! she's my fav from the show
@1:51 at that moment spinelli knew she had messed up!!
Tbh I feel sorry for her kids can be so cruel
TJ is such a great friend, when I was kid in the 90s I had a crush on him just like Spinelli.
that weird day that all Ms. Groke's students called her mama. LOL.
4:40 I cant raise my voice at my mother without having fear of her punching me in the throat, and I'm over 20 years old.
Warren Griffin well she WAS nine.
“She made me.” Yup.
Just out of curiosity, how tall is your mom?
i called my 9th grade teacher grandma once o-o
Interstellar18 I'm from the future

Miss Grotkie is one of the best teachers in animation history.
it's her being fictional that makes her a good teacher.

at 6:49 T.J's hat was black! But at 6:53 his hat was red.
Weird
It is dark red
I had a motherly type of teacher as well in junior year. She even referred to us as her children. I felt “family zoned” as I had a crush on her. Damn, just teenager things.
Jokes on you. I feel a sense of pride whenever somebody accidentally calls me mom. I'm nurturing like that.😊😊
Oh so you’re the type that loves to look after everyone? Makes sure everyone eats well. Gets enough sleep. Good on ya

Mama Luigi?!
Ahahahahaha!
That’s Mama Luigi to you, Mario!
"me too mommy! ...i mean mama" LMAO

"Uh oh! The kindergartners gave the gerbils helium again.." LOL! Principal Prickly 😂😂😂
Bob, your going around school flaunting a crown and cape, and your making fun of Spinelli?
You know you're in big trouble when even the adults are teasing you! 😔😧 #cartoonlogic
8:41 And of course Ashley would react like that; she only cares about herself. Mrs. Grotke made good points; I remember how tough it was being a kid! (Socially awkward, has a tough time making friends)
I wish it was cartoon logic, but I see that sort of thing happen a lot.
@@DigiEggz dang sorry for the late response. Oh my gosh, really?? That's a shame that that would even happen. Like I know adults do certain things, but for them to actually laugh at kids when they're being laughed at by other children is so sad.
Mikey reads STEPHEN KING???
Him, Gus, and Spinelli reading Stephen King is kinda understandable. At that age, I dunno, but I could totally see them enjoying his works.
Jamal Keys
It can be a bit dark for younger audiences though!! 😂
@@Satan666Official Recess has a bunch of dark themes, if you think about it. Heck, it was the norm for a cartoon to have some pretty.... memorable dark moments.
Imagine if Hey Arnold made a parody of this episode, where Helga call her therapist "Dr Bliss" mama.
Then that would've been hilarious, yet the connotation is wholesome.
@@TheAutisticCapricorn811 How?
Funny how the episodes I didn't care a great deal for as a kid are now firmly among my favourites now -- I think this one's great. The writers were so brilliant and the actors very convincing.
In the Hispanic community where I'm from, young women get called mama and young men get called papa or daddy.
Yeah but isn't that in a sexualised way lol? I've been called mamasita before😂
I'd like to work there as a secretary of you know what I mean 😏😏
Wrong
I called my art teacher mom in elementary school! I remember thinking about this episode and telling myself that Spinelli got over it and I could too!
TJ's hat changes color to a dark red at 6:48 and the next scene is back to the classic red
🤣🤣🤣🤣 this episode will never not be funny. I'm grown now and I still would want to crawl in a hole and never come out after that 😂😂 soo embarrassing yet hilarious.
Oh No LOOK OUT MAMA!!! (Echoing MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA!!!!)
When everyone was saying momma was pretty dawn funny when I would watch this as a kid and still does after 15 years
DOBBY HAS A SILK SPORT JACKET!
Call me daddy has sooo many implications now😹 I understand that this a show over 20 years old now. But hearing it now used this way is just funny
her life is like a steven king novel? damn!
Poor Spenill , she had to go through a thing like this.
She's so nice
3:23 still makes me laugh uncontrollably every time
2:12 Mrs. Finster Laughing 😅. Achievement Unlocked. Way to go, Spinelli.
That's fine, I had a psychology professor at university who I'd happily call daddy 🤣😉
U know that U shouldn't compare these two with each other .
@@martinsonneborn6820 ikr, it's ok to say it if you're a child, but it's creepy to say it as a grown-up adult...

" It's a mystery Gus, but someone always does" T.J.

This is gonna sound dumb but I think that it’s really good that tj stood up for her even when everyone was making fun of her he tried his best not to laugh at her
lol. The birds... they're planning something.
This episode and "Mikey's Pants" each had great moments of self-sacrifice from the gang.
Is it just me or does TJs voice sound different at the end??
It's because Ross Malinger's voice was breaking, and so after "Outcast Ashley", he was replaced by Andrew Lawrence.
It's actually quite common and happens on every elementary school.
Daniel I did it 3 times to my first grade teacher.
1:47 😂😂😂
7:42 And this is how my 10 year old self got introduced to Stephen King. Thanks, Recess.
Finster's laughing really killed me
"It's the birds, they're planning something"
Never did I expect Miss Finster to become my favourite character when I grew up 🤣
I love how the children at 7:36 are all saying "mama daddy" so syncrenized.
Anyone else notice how T.J's voice is different in this episode?
It's been bugging me, I had to look in the comments here and hope someone else noticed.
Because Ross Malinger who voiced him in season 1 was replaced by Andrew Lawrence who did season 2 all the way to season 6 and 2 movies.
Damn when even the adults mock you. That must feel worse
Awww. Spinelli has a soft heart deep down.
I love this show
