Colleen was definitely a theatre kid who wanted the chance to sing her favorite theatre songs onstage but people (kids) would show up if she was Miranda Sings so she tried to blend the two
The parents that chose to bring their kids to these shows and then continued to let their kids watch her after seeing THIS, are the problem. How can you watch this and think that its ok for children, or anyone for that matter.

I’ve never seen her Netflix special but sadly the “porn” segment reminded me of going through Catholic high school. The teachers would always point out our skirts, tops etc. There were socks (ankle socks), shoes, and tanks that were labeled “inappropriate”. It was weird how much those adults were fixated on us.
I think the joke was meant to be taking the piss out of this exact idea in purity culture that that showing any skin is somehow inherently pornographic. But Colleen isn't really satirizing this, she's just... exhibiting the same damaging mentality to her young audience in an annoying voice. I grew up in a Baptist community with people who were way too fixated on the length of my shorts, and find there are so many funny ways to critique/make light of the concept, but Colleen's is beyond poorly executed. An actual good example of this done well is the outwardly prudish character, Angela from The Office. She wears outdated, modest clothing "made for large colonial dolls," and makes arbitrary judgmental statements like "orange is whorish" to her appropriately-dressed coworkers, all while having the least scrupulous sex life of anyone there.
@@Sweet_Dee yesss so well said! This is what I was trying to get at. Like I can see what experiences may have led to this - but the execution is terrible. You’re exactly right - there’s no satire here. It’s just passing fwd the trauma 😭

Broadway does not pay nearly as well as UA-cam, etc. At least at her level of subscribers. I'm guessing that's why it wasn't a main focus after a certain point.
If I’m not mistaken her Miranda sings channel was what opened the door for that guest spot on waitress. So idk how successful she would have been without her UA-cam career.
If I was an adult, and I took my kids to one of her shows, and she immediately starts talking about se× and sh1t. I'm grabbing my child and we're leaving, I can't believe how many parents didn't care that this is the show their kids are watching. There has been *many* red flags about her content that is sadly just now coming to the surface from these past long term fans of hers when they were younger. The fact that when she sung her first song, that first line contained "p*rnh*b" just sets an immense red flag for me. Like I said, I can't believe parents back then just didn't care their children were watching this cringe crap from an awful child influencer..
My thoughts exactly!! Kids get curious so if they see the word “pornhub” or “porn”. They’ll definitely look it up to understand what she was talking about. So then the kids will be probably be exposed to it too early in life until it was time when they hit puberty to know their urges & desires
Thank you for covering this!! I feel like no one has seen a lot of the terrible content in this "comedy" standup. Also what really made me cringe is when she said "theres a tiny penis inside of me" when referring to being pregnant with her son.
@@Diamond40000there’s an actual video, I didn’t know she said it in her comedy specials but I’ve seen a clip floating around of her fake crying as Miranda because she’s not “pure” anymore. It’s disgusting.
I think one of the reasons some of her borderline questionable jokes flew under the radar was because she was always making the questionable jokes as her Miranda character. She essentially decided that Miranda was creepy. The problem with acting out a creepy character is that it blurs the lines between pretending to be creepy in order to get a mocking laugh at the character and actually just being creepy. I think in the past people would have looked at some of her jokes and said “oh that’s just her making fun of this creepy character she’s created,” and now people are looking at it as some thing more real.
How could any parent on earth think it was OK or hilarious to take their kids to her shows? Just someone saying the p*rn word in front of my kids sets off the alarm bells and red flags with me. What is wrong with these parents and Netflix shelling out tons of money for this gross lady???
Okay, there's a difference between "jokes that go over kid's heads" and "direct references to sex and porn. Like, I watched Young Frankenstein for the first time when I was maybe eight or nine, and there were a few jokes that I didn't get (like when Inga asks if Frederick would like to "roll in the hay"), but like, there were other jokes in the movie! There were puns! There was slapstick! There were running gags! The movie wasn't all just sex jokes! With this special, it seems like all she's talking about is sex and porn.
this is not at all the worst part of the special, but i think it’s hilarious that colleen did the first half of defying gravity normally and then did all the hard parts of the song as miranda so she wouldn’t have to actually try to hit the notes at the end lmao
The fact that when she asks the crowd to sing along it’s like a children’s choir or kid-disco and just minutes prior she mentioned PH, saggy tits and vaginas smelling like cat food. If this was a comedy show for adults, that would be fine but not only does she know and acknowledge there are kids in the audience, she even markets it towards them. In 2019!! People have been cancelled for so much less and Colleen gets to get away with THAT?!
this is so painful to watch. 😭 (not your commentary--just her show.) and the fact that she sings "defying gravity" every freaking live show to prove she can "really sing" is...ugh. it's annoying and genuinely aggravating. she's always tried winning everyone over with it. i do find it funny that most of her jokes seem to fall flat with her audience. barely anyone was laughing. 💀 glad to see she's being called out for all the inappropriate behavior. the amount of sexual things she exposed to her audience of KIDS...when she pulled KIDS on her stage and sexualized them...good god. i can only imagine what they (and the parents) were feeling. hopefully they stopped supporting her afterwards.
Yes I thought I was the only one noticing it. Its just like how my teachers mocked my autism as a kid. Obviously the sexual stuff towards kids is worse but still yikes
I don't understand how she got away with this for so long. I tried watching h8ers back off during the pandemic and i couldn't make it thru episode 1 and had zero clue it was geared towards children at the time. It fully romanticizes incest & r8p, not funny in the least, and its clear the obly way she could ever build a following was by gearing her content to kids then capitalizing on them ince she sucked them in.
Same here! I was so grossed out by her and the “uncle”. Was she trying to normalize incest so kids think predatory behavior is ok? How did she get away with it?
@@AzuleaFlairI actually used to really love haters back off, it was hilarious and relatable to me, I especially related to Miranda in the show, man I hate when content creators turn out this way :/

I remember a Donald Glover special where he talks about parents who come to his show with kids thinking "it's the funny guy from Community" and then turning tf around when they realize his set is inappropriate because... it is, and he clearly states his stand-up is for an adult crowd. Colleen has done the opposite here.
Nexflix has never tried to hide the fact they’re okay with exposing kids to inappropriate and sexual content. Remember cuties? How is anyone surprised Netflix would let something like this slide?
Animaniacs, Rocko's Modern Life, and The Amazing World of Gumball are all good examples of kid's shows that manage to sneak in adult humor for the parents. The main difference between those shows and this special is mainly that those shows still had jokes for kids. Meanwhile, all the "jokes" here are only for adults.
@@EvilPinely UA-cam was a different place some 10 years ago, now looking back there was a lot of inappropriate content, however we all grew as a society, those creators too. I am not offended by Colleen's comedy, where was a market for it and at the time she was appreciated, the main audience just grew out of it.
@cunningchanning3000 this is such a stupid excuse when there was people calling out those horrible youtubers back then. Theres old videos calling out Shane and Onision and many others.

Myself and few other adults found each other during the merch table time and we were all puzzled. When I did a deeper diver into her stuffI had to walk away...and when I saw this special drop I was like WHY?? It's so much worse than I could have ever thought.
I was wondering why she didn't make her shows 18+ but I assumed that maybe adults wouldn't pay to see her. But apparently they would have! She really has terrible judgement.
Wait she said all this in front of a child audience??? She literally called them all dumb to their faces 😭 If I were a parent I would’ve taken my kid and walked out
At this point I have no more questions about Colleen. She's obviously either a perv or just a bad person with no remorse for her actions. But the parents who allowed their kids to watch her and brought them to her shows should be ashamed of themselves.
Omg her saying chesticle crack flashed me back to when I was a child and my sister and cousin both did Miranda sings impressions for like a year straight, and chesticle crack was a regular part of their vocabulary, and it’s now I’m wondering why we as children learned this unneeded new word for boobs from a stranger on the internet, which basically conditioned them to include that sort of talk into their conversation more.
I remember turning on episode 1 of 'haters back off' with my parents and in the middle they told me to turn it off because there were too many innuendos. Looking back, im so thankful they did that.
If I was a parent and took my kid to this without first fully understanding the adult content included in Colleen's shows, I would have marched myself and my child out of there ten minutes in. I cannot imagine sitting there and laughing alongside my child while some woman calls a teen porn and publicly shames her, sexualises a young boy, or talks about her funky vag. How were these adults all okay with this? Especially the ones there with nine and ten-year-olds.
What’s annoying is that no one wants to hold parents accountable as well. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think those kids drove themselves to that theater.
Her entire "this is porn" section gave me severe and unwanted memories of being treated like that genuinely when I was younger because I could never NOT have cleavage 😑
SAME i "developed" way faster than the other girls in my class and i never got to live it down and its like the top number 1 reason i decided to get top surgery
The thing about Fred that I can't even say about Miranda Sings is that at least Lucas created the character when he was a kid. Colleen was a whole adult.
What’s so sad about this is the kids really don’t know what they’re watching- they’re just enjoying the theatrics of a Hannah Montana type character. Imagine how many horrified parents were in that audience..
I've been on the internet since a young age so I'd say I'm pretty desensitized, but somehow this Miranda sings Netflix special has made me feel such a strong sense of discomfort that I don't think I've felt since watching a liveleak video for the first time. How on earth is this on Netflix and more importantly how was this ever even allowed to take place??
THIS IS SO GROSS. if i went to see this with my parents as a kid they would drag me out within the first 5 minutes and never let me on the internet again. it is disgusting how she's gotten away with this
Oh my god, she's always been a creep. Thanks for shining light on this because I don't think anyone other than her kid fans (who wouldn't understand why it's so bad) would've even watched this otherwise. This brings the situation to a whole new level of bad
1:41 true... We've all seen a good amount of adult jokes in kid films that went complety over our heads when we were really young children 2:29 This is so appalling not even a 30 seconds into the song and she already sung about p*rnhub
Agreed. When I rewatch old shows, even Total Drama Island, I would now pick up the innuendos or laugh because I finally understood something. Lines that were actually meant for an older audience really did fly over my head. It fit into the dialogue to me, where I wasn't necessarily confused, I just didn't care or hone in on it. It wasn't blatantly crass and constant like what Colleen does.
This whole situation is weird to me because I would see her face on UA-cam every now and again but didn’t give it much thought. Then the allegations came out and I was alarmed but not surprised because tons of UA-camrs get exposed for shady stuff like everyday. Then she posted an ukulele apology video and the entire internet is obsessed and now I’m finding out that this entire time I’ve seen this woman’s face, she’s been flirting with little boys and talking about p**n with underage girls ON A LIVE STAGE SHOW PRODUCED BY NETFLIX. Like, all I had to do was make one click and I’d get exposed to… this.

I grew up in a Baptist community with people who were way too fixated on the length of my shorts, and find there are so many funny ways to critique/make light of the concept, but Colleen's is beyond poorly executed. I think one of the reasons some of her borderline questionable jokes flew under the radar was because she was always making the questionable jokes as her Miranda character.
