  • This solo male (3-4 years old) is from outside the territory. He occasionally comes by to check the situation, possibly to woo a pride lioness. If he wanted to challenge the pride males he'd call like this - • male lions roar togeth... But he remains silent - which means he doesn't want to challenge the pride males...yet. On this visit, he has a drink • mohawk lion - part 1 -... checks out the area • mohawk lion - part 8 -... and settles down for a nap... until a hippo strolls by • mohawk lion and the hi... then he's on alert, but stays low • mohawk lion and the hi... to avoid a fight like this • hippo fight - male def... - on safari at Okavango Delta, Botswana
Tips from my trip: Unlike the other camps on this Botswana trip, I have no mixed feelings about Duba Explorers camp owned by Great Plains Conservation - IT SUCKED!!! Trust me…DO NOT give this company your business!!
After my trip, I found out that right before I arrived, another person had so many issues at Duba, she asked to leave. But unlike me, she was allowed to return to Selinda Explorers (at no additional cost).
After Duba repeatedly failed to resolve significant issues, I also asked to leave, but they refused to let me leave early with a refund, or go to another camp like they did for the other dissatisfied guest. They refused to provide me any compensation for the camp’s repeated failure to provide the basic services for which I paid $12,220 for 4 days.
Great Plains Conservation is clearly too big to care about their clients. They have the worst employees and service out there - well, tied with Asilia Africa... Sad when your best service/food while on vacation was on the plane ride to and from…
    Tents:
bed crawling with live bugs! under comforter, inside sheets, had to bugspray bedding before bed, and try to air out - unable to get good sleep, felt bugs crawling on me all night
nasty room attendant twice failed to replenish dirty washcloths (used on private bits) left on floor and instead just rehung dirty on a hook - ICK!!
I was only 1 of 2 sets of guests, but they put me in the crappiest tent closest to the kitchen and main lodge - the staff was soooo noisy for hours between safaris - not relaxing
broken fan, had to repeatedly ask the female manager to fix it; super hot there - completely inadequate tiny fan
    Food:
every day was a horrible meal experience, they:
ignored my dietary requests at almost every meal and served me food I couldn’t eat or didn’t like to eat - despite them asking for a list of specific ingredients when I booked, then they completely ignored it, even after I repeatedly pointed out issues while there
incompetent servers couldn't even get food orders right: on day 4 for breakfast, I asked for eggs, bacon, side of fruit, and a bowl of cereal with cold milk. I got eggs, bacon and a parfait of yogurt, fruit and granola - even though yogurt’s on my ‘do not eat/serve’ list and despite having just ordered 10mins prior - imagine if you had a food allergy! this place can’t be bothered…they don’t care about theirs guests
served me spoiled chocolate milk 2days in a row-they admitted they took it out of the refrigerator for hours before my safari and left it in the Botswana heat, though I had asked for ‘cold’ chocolate milk (vs hot cocoa)
despite fancy presentations, dinners were awful - poorly cooked, unbalanced, flavors were off, to the point of being unenjoyable/inedible; I had to send back meals and instead order fried eggs at least 5 times
couldn't properly cook meat, eggs; ordered two eggs and each would be cooked differently...wtf
    Guides:
the managers refused my request, before I arrived, to give me a guide other than the girlfriend of the Selinda camp guide who got in trouble after he harassed me
female was nice the first day then retaliated/passive aggressive - refused to follow wild dogs at my repeated requests; after spoiled milk, I didn't feel well, asked to go home fast, she drove slowly, I asked her to pick it up, she slowed down even more, etc
Day 3 got a new guide just off vacation; he was better than the female for 1st safari, but the next 3 he kept falling asleep during at a lot of the stops
he didn’t respect wildlife and ran them down, especially if they were in the shade (so he could park there). I had to repeatedly tell him that I wanted to film them where they stood/laid, not scared and scattered
he also repeatedly ignored my requests - I asked to go south to specific waterholes, he went east, far east. I had asked to stay on the reserve and he still tried to drive out through fence
    Managers:
a married passive aggressive couple, completely incompetent; failed to resolve ANY of the issues I brought to their attention
failed to send staff to help me with my bags to the helicopter, I struggled past staff+manager - only the helo pilot offered to help me. I thought Aslia Africa was bad…I was so glad to leave this sh*tshow of a camp and company…
