Num Pang Pâté is a Cambodian word and creation for cold cut sandwiches, not Vietnamese. Even the Khmer name for it says it all that it’s indeed Khmer for they credited the French using French words such as “pain” and “pâté”. Whereas the Vietnamese call them Banh Mi. No idea what “Banh Mi” means, which sounds more like the Vietnamese being nationalistic and creating a Vietnamese word to promote and market this product as a Vietnamese creation. It makes sense that Khmer created Num Pang Pate since Khmers were a French Protectorate, making them more susceptible to French influences, culture, and words, whereas Vietnamese were a colony; hence, why Vietnamese were more aggressive and rebellious.
