- It's out with the old and in with the new this week as we prepare to welcome our baby on board our narrowboat. We're pretty excited about our new compost toilet, as well as all the baby clothes we have to find room for :-) (Ps. Thank you to everyone who has knitted something for our new crew member!)

For those of you just joining us, welcome! We're Vic and Jo and we've been narrowboating around the UK for the last few years on our 54ft narrowboat Zero. Last year we decided to give up our jobs in the city and add another boat to our fleet in hope of turning it into a travelling cafe and becoming full time boating baristas. We'll also be having a baby in just a few months time!

Just seems like yesterday that I held my baby boy for the first time, but really it was 41 years ago. Those clothes, he will outgrow, before he wears them out, so don't save something for a special day, make everyday special.
You two make life worth living. Knowing that there is happiness still about.

Not sure if you guys will see this, but really enjoyed this one! Vic, you have missed your calling....you are a very talented cinematographer, and your facial expressions and sense of humor remind me of a Hugh Grant character! Love watching you both prepare for baby! They actually need less than you think - and clothes never wear out because they are outgrown so quickly 👼. Compost loos are fantastic if used properly; coir compost or even ordinary garden centre bagged compost is a necessity because that is the secret to easy 'breakdown' and ease of emptying. A bit of advise from one who uses this form of loo: empty the 'wee' container every day if possible rather than waiting for the container to fill. Urine is 'strongly scented' which makes it less pleasant the more you have stored! Funnily enough the 'poo' part is a doddle as long as you follow the instructions and the resulting compost can go on any garden safely! Laughed out loud at the buggy stalking you through the golf course 😂. Take care and make the most of sleeping through the night!

I remember the pre baby gathering and preparing that is still kind of happening 3 and a half years later.
I helped make a composting toilet of a similar design for my sister’s trailer last summer. I got started on one for me and then got side track by helping to build a water tank shed for needy friends. Hopefully this winter I’ll get it made. Tell him to get playing the guitar. Mine used to help get my little Zella to sleep many nights.

You have inspired me to get back into baking. I am the leader of a test team on an MOD project and I now take in a cake to relieve the Monday morning blues. So far I have done Easy Chocolate Cake, Coffee and Pistachio, Carrot Cake. This week’s cake is Lemon Poppyseed Cake with Lemon icing. Cakes usually disappear in no time, just hope the flight test guys can still get in their flying suits 😂
I got a bit carried away, I baked Coffee and Pecan not pistachio. My cake tasters say the Coffee and Pecan is nicer than Coffee and Walnut.
Every day I tell myself:

Re. The guitar, Vic should convert to the ukulele! I think it's so much more fun to play, easier too, smaller, cheaper etc. And baby will have fun playing it when they're old enough 😊

In my early days as a fledgling truck driver, I transported treated sewage to syon Park from sewage ponds by truck. Down London way.
This was then dried and used as compost on the plants.
Nesting is fun and feels so good to be prepared! Buttons, snaps and sippers are your friends with newborns…. I absolutely cannot wait!!! Where is the Bambino going to sleep?💕

We put a composting toilet, a Nature's Head, into our Airstream some years ago. Best decision we ever made, so much freedom when you don't need to dump black tanks anymore. They were initially designed for sailboats, but they work anywhere.
I think you will find earth closets were around long before sailboats.
I remember when I felt all giggly and nervous about the first one. Now my babies are 33 & 35 and to be honest I still get nervous about them sometimes. Plus very fortunately we all have many silly giggle fests about nothing.

Holly. Please do Not destroy/throw away, your man's dreams (The Guitar). One of my treasured possessions is a Banjo which I learned to play, but not well. It is still on of my prised possessions , I can;t play it any more, I am in my mid 70, my fingers just won't do my bidding. Having Dreams is Very important to being happy. Just a comment regarding a video several weeks ago the man knows his stuff...An historic landscape dating back thousands of years, the 'Chase', as the name suggests, became a medieval royal hunting forest for William the Conqueror in 1086. Fallow deer, possibly descended from the original herd introduced in Norman times, still roam free.

I am enjoying you and your adventures so much. I love your Cafe’. Vic did a wonderful job on building it out. I relate because about 18 months ago I opened a Cafe’. It is on solid rock here in the Rocky Mountains at our church though. Will you be in a Marina for a while after the Little Man arrives? Can you have your Cafe’ open in a Marina? I look forward to all the excitement this next few months will bring to you two and baby boy. It is delightful to follow you.
