      While I agree, that wasn’t what was being argued. Imagine if they could interpret whatever law they wanted not just the specific case? It may not always be a “victory” type situation. They decided a restraining order can lose your 2A rights…basically they aren’t perfect. A balance is necessary.

    Once again, you are 100% correct. Anyone with ANY firearms training should know, full auto use is for suppressive fire. Personally I’m not expecting a zombie apocalypse in the near future that might require it. Full auto’s are an absolute hoot but I have trouble feeding my semi pistols and rifles.
    Guess next will be Miculeck and Latham get outlawed in certain states, LOL then SCOTUS will have to fix that with some common sense application of the law. Best lesson here is IF you’re serious about your rights - DON’T ABUSE THEM, we’re under a constant microscope.

    As an infantry weapon, a squad auto rifle is used to produce a "beaten zone" on an enemy position, an area target. It's only effective prone off a bipod/tripod. I have a civilian use in Va., in the 80's where an H&K employee and his gf were coming home from the range, where he'd been testing a Ruger AC-556, got into a "road-rage" situation with a motorcyclist, who followed him to his home. The salesman defended himself and his GF with the Ruger. No idea if the shooting was done semi or full auto, just that the AC-556 was the weapon used.... I could possibly see a heavy AR on a bipod being employed as a "squad auto", with an extra large 60 to 100 rnd.magazine and a binary trigger, to produce a "beaten zone" effect, using the sights. None of the other systems would allow that to work, IMO...THAT INVOLVES SMALL UNIT TACTICS TRAINING, fire and manuver, by a fire team, not a single shooter. For sure, you'll burn more ammo, without the Army's logistic train to supply you....
    Anywho, that's my two cents....

    Good subject!! Here's what I think is better than a bumpstock. Install a trigger that is very light and has a short length of pull. Put a vertical foregrip on the rifle. It's hard to describe technique in a comment. When firing, keep your pistol grip hand loose so that your trigger finger is relatively stationary as the rifle recoils. Primarily grip the rifle and push forward with the vertical foregrip. Works better than a bumpstock when you get the technique down.

    I served four years in the Army in the early to mid eighties. Unfortunately I had to carry an m60 and an m16 the three years I was in West Germany. Automatic fire is for suppression and equipment damage. When the m60 is mounted on the bipod and the claws are dug into the ground, with the buttstock against your shoulder, you can be very effective with the proper practice. Shooting it from the hip or off hand is just a waste of ammo. It really shines when laying down suppression so troops can move from point A to point B. The m16 is easier to handle in automatic fire but it takes a lot of control and practice. One well placed shot is where it’s at!

  • @BlueRidgeCritter

    Every point was solid as always. I think at the end you summed it up really well... We shouldn't be rubbing it in their faces given the current state of affairs. It's the same argument in a lot of ways as open vs concealed carry. There's three classes of gun owners right now: The ones that just shoot some and enjoy guns but aren't really 2A minded; the.vast majority of us who are, but are trying to deal with and work the system that exists and get our rights back like they're supposed to be; and then a very vocal no compromise group that, while they are right, sometimes have a tendency to cause problems where we really don't need problems to be caused at the moment, and exacerbates things by throwing gas on the flames. Anyway, please keep the videos coming, they're wonderful. God bless!

    @roykiefer7713 3 місяці тому

    Well, Dick, THANK YOU for this very thoughtful and important video (with which, fwiw, I fully agree). I’d like to add one matter that you did not discuss regarding the non-military tactical / defensive use of very rapid cyclic rate firearms (regardless of their design). Obviously, the shooter is accountable for EVERY round that departs the muzzle. Accordingly - and I am NOT discussing “fun times” at ranges or other entirely safe venues - the individual who employs (for example) a lawfully owned fully automatic weapon, for legal defense, absolutely will be held responsible when one or more of his projectiles miss the target, travel at high velocities down range for perhaps a couple hundred yards, and then - God forbid - wound or kill an innocent. Moreover, your excellent points regards the ardent anti-2A community will certainly apply is such situations.
    There’s no doubt that such tragedies can occur with a .22LR, single shots, bolt action rifle, BUT how much more likely are they to arise with a fully automatic firearm?
    Only hits count . . . and (imho) what may well be worse than losing a gunfight (and being wounded or killed in the process ), is being responsible for an innocent’s death or the severe wounds. We clearly incur that risk with every shot we fire in an uncontrolled environment, however, the danger is FAR more acute when “spraying and praying.”

    I much prefer binary triggers to bumpstocks. I think the former is more likely to be practical in full auto situations. I think that in any unusual situation where an AR15 is needed for “serious use,” ordinary semiautomatic function is by far the most practical mode. That said, I like having the binary trigger option for the very rare and unlikely instance where it might make more sense.

    Often times elderly people are considered "wise" simply because of age and or past deeds or occupations. Binary triggers are NOT currently illegal or in "limbo". There is no "cause" involved in 2a support. It is a right. And as always someone will try to infringe on that. The bump stock ban was overturned like so many convictions have been. The same people cheering for those overturned convictions are now sour over this. Yes firearms are often used as tools. They are also often a FUN source of amusement usually reserved for folks too old to play with dolls or "action figures". Why not let those who enjoy them and can afford to do so do it without such criticism. And as we live in the "information age", let them publish these escapades on whatever social media/video outlets they choose. If certain people are offended they need not watch.
