Looks good!! Seriously, paint the ceiling a much lighter shade - you will be compromising your light reflectance if you use the same color as the walls. If you choose to use the same color on the ceiling, you will create a "cave effect." I'm a registered lighting designer...
So nice of you to share your valued experience; and pro bono at that!
The ceiling missed its opportunity for getting a coat of paint, time to move-on to bigger and better things !
@4Classie I believe it was mentioned that the ceiling will be painted at a later time when they can easily access it (probably with a rented lift) 😊
@Ih824 You are correct, regarding the ‘cave effect’ in a room. Interior Designer here. I had a client who wanted to do this exact type of paint application, only with a very saturated color in a space with a cathedral ceiling. She was insistent on using that color, despite the closed-in effect it would create. Since she hired me specifically for my expertise in the use of color, I showed her how we could use the paint color strip to select a paint color that would achieve her desired ‘look’. I chose a color 4 steps upward on the color strip, and then moved across to the adjoining strip. Walls and ceiling were painted with this much lighter color, providing my client what she actually had envisioned, but didn’t know how to get there. Yes, lighting and interior designers provide key roles in creating harmonious and safe environments.
I like that idea too. I was thinking a lighter color or no paint at all is just fine for there but I don't own that building. It does look really nice with the "silver" walls! Have a great weekend!
There's definitely a screen in the sprayer also it's very important to clean out all the house lines after every use 😊😊
I haven't had the greatest of luck with Harbor Freight. I'm glad it worked for you. Looks good. Your puppy is really growing. Such a sweetheart.
Morning Al & Gina, like the color choice for the shop. You know Brutus is enjoying the snow. He is such a happy dog. Once the shop dries and you start organizing it will look so much better.
Every workshop I've ever been in has been painted white because they are usually dark inside and the lights reflected back into the room. Same with ceilings white reflects back down into the workshop because it bounces around the workshop area. Even with these new lights when you're working it may not be clear enough especially when you are in or under a machine. Work lights could be used more with a darker color than white.
Awesome job with the walls, just a tad dark IMO. Definitely paint the ceiling lighter, it'll help with natural lighing. Brutus is getting huge! Love ya'll ❤
Ripe banana is something you see in the Caribbean, which is where it belongs. Al, didja read the directions first? Love the color! Looks like Bay Waves, which is what we used,
How is the workshop batteries doing? Do the vertical panels top-off the batteries with reflected sunlight?
So smart!!
Light gray is a great color for a workshop. That's what I would have picked too.
Definitely would have drop sheeted everything on the floor area, will have over spray on everything. Not worried about the floor as one can paint that too!
Back in my painting days we used to use old pantyhose to strain the paint. That worked well.
Thanks for my morning LOL...we are literally watching paint dry! 🤣🤣🤣
DETROIT LION SILVER! Detroit represented in the barn! That is so cool!
You got me with "Bright Banana", I was thinking "whaaaattttt?".
There are simply times that it is quicker but also better to go with a paint sprayer. The result is worth the hassle of set up and clean up of the sprayer. The workshop paint seems like one to me.
Your experience is matching mine. Spraying sounds like a good idea, but !!! They tend to use a lot of paint on textured items, best if you just spray on then back roll with a paint roller. For a lot of jobs, the setup, masking and gun/machine cleanup are a lot more work than you have planned. For small jobs the roller beats the sprayer all the time. Clogging and break downs are a constant problem. They are very good at painting things that would take a lot of brush strokes or have very irregular surfaces like your sprayed on foam, under the eves, a fence or large building exterior.
Maybe have a farm mural painted on one of the walls. 😊 Some chickens 🐔 🐥 a tractor 🚜 and a cow 🐄 ??? 🌳 🏡 🌲 🐑 🐐
So glad you didn't go for the yellow, imagine have to live with that! Good choice for your work shop.
I wonder how yellow it would have been with "ripe" banana? They get spots so quickly. I'm teasing! Have a great weekend!
My favourite pastime - watching paint dry - it means the job is finished!!!
LOL!
When pouring 5 gallon buckets, turn it around so the opening is on top. That allows the air to get in (no plopping) and when done, the "drool" is on the lid, not running down the side and getting on the floor.
Same thing with pouring Oil, the trick is not having air gulp, but equalized, _ fluid out - air in !
Plus with gallon metal cans of paint, put 3 or 4 nail holes in recessed area that lid seals at, that way after being poured or a brush rubs away excess, all the paint in top lip just falls inside, then later the lid will seat without issue, in future removed easily !
@@4Classie - the nail hole in the paint rim seal is one we always used. Amazing how many people don't know that trick and how helpful it is.
The one thing about sprayer longevity is brand name with proper cleaning of the nozzles and the machine. My sprayer the 5 gallon pail fits under the sprayer. I think the upper walls and ceiling should be a much lighter colour even white.
Silver grey is just about spot on, you can see the dirt early enough to stop moisture and it turning to mould. Welcome to the grey face paint tribe that a few of us have joined over the years (lucky it was not oil based). You also have another string in your bow and spraying comes in very handy, and yes preparation is everything when spraying as you worked in a shop and are aware how fussy you have to be to get it perfect. Well done and cannot wait to see it finished!
Hi Al, whilst you are paint spraying and you get a bad spray pattern, turn the black spray tip 180deg and that will clean any debris on the spray tip, then turn it back to spray position. With you not being able to prime, more often than not, it generally means there is debris keeping the none return ball open, this stops the pump priming. To resolve this one needs to take the suction hose off and clean pump and hose end, there should be a ball which acts as the none return valve, hope that helps.
Too late now, that was 2 weeks ago
What an awesome support team Lumnah Acres has gathered. It's like a How To Life School for Homesteaders.. and everyone. 😊
@@col2560 might be, but Al will know next time.
Al could have just added some water to dilute thinning instead, I'd have thinned with Beer !
Good tip! I'll have to remember that if I ever use a paint sprayer. Thanks. Have a great weekend!
I was wondering if that pump would adjust for the bigger paint bucket, in any case a platform would help the hose drop in to the bottom of the bucket.
Looking good Al and Gina! One word of advice, when using a paint sprayer you are going to want to add some Floetrol to the paint to help condition it for spraying (we even do this when rolling paint on). It does not wash out the color as the Floetrol dries clear: I also use it with my acrylic pour painting. It is a paint conditioner and we would add a quart of floetrol to a 5 gallon pail of paint when I was helping my dad turn over apartments at the complex he worked at as a maintenance man. There are two versions of Floetrol one is the Latex and that is the water based paint one (the one I use) the other is for oil based paints. Trust me it will make the paint flow even better!
Good tip. I'll have to remember that if I try spray painting in the future! Does that work for exterior paint too? I have the outside of a barn to paint at some point I think. My son should get the farm in the future. Have a great weekend!
@@StoneKathryn Floetrol should be good for all latex or acrylic type paints. Interior and exterior. Should help to reduce spray tip clogging, but also if using a brush, helps to reduce brush marks. If you are using oil or alkyd paints the comparable product for that type of paint is called Penetrol. Both products are made by the Flood Company.
Good Morning Lumnahs. 🌞 Your farm is a winter wonderland. Awesome job spray painting the shop and the color is perfect. I'm looking forward to seeing how you organize the shop tools. What you may buy and what you build yourself. You have a fantastic Comment section. So many people around the world sending you encouragement and advice. Give Brutus a hug from my family.
Good morning Lumnah Acres and viewers!! Enjoying the blooming of dogwood trees here in the East TN area! Brutus is growing fast! I like how he has already warmed up to the live stock. He will be a great protector of the farm animals.
Gooooood Morning Rob. It will be interesting to see how Brutus does with all the different kinds of livestock.
@@LumnahAcresHey just curious Why do you wear ear protection for Every thing, even painting?
Hey Rob, I too live in East TN. Have a great day.
@@Coyote-tc1wwThe spray painter is pretty loud. I imagine they want to avoid the cumulative damage of constant loud noise..

I like the silver!
Good Morning everyone. I enjoyed watching this spray painting. Thanks for sharing. Gina, I know you must be loving your greenhouse room especially that sink area for watering your seeds. That was a great addition to the harvest house. Y'all have a Blessed weekend.
Howdy there, Margaret - thank you and I hope you have a blessed weekend as well!
When tip gets stopped up just trun it backwards and it well clean it self
The paint makes all the difference in the workshop. Once the ceiling is done (lighter colour) and you get the shelving in place it is going to be a great project space.
Hi al an gina what a huge transformation to the workshop after painting it looks awesome. Al i think the color really looks good and some day you will get the ceiling done to match nice finish
Good morning, everyone!!
Howdy there, Chris!
@samvalentine3206 hey, Sam!
Hi Gina, looking forward to seeing your “big rock garden” this year. Yes, the Secret Garden also, but your plantings in the crevices of the rock were pretty magical.
Great looking shop that you will be able to enjoy for years to come .
Glad you chose not to paint it yellow. It looks real 👍
The paint sprayer seems to be working perfectly and top class finish
❤
Ok Lumnahs. Appreciate your sharing your thoughts, experience and creative expertise. I like the shop color. Looking forward to seeing you work in your work space. Blessings in His Holy Name. See y'all next week.❤☝🙏🙌💪👍🐕🐈🐗🐐🐓🐤🐔🌱🪴yay love your channel.
Good evening Lumnah family and friends. Your painting is awesome indeed. Keep up the great work.
Hey Al make sure you show how much over spray is on all your equipment and the amount of paint that is all over the floor where you didn't cover it up.
❤Why are we not surprised! Of course you went with a dingey gray! 😂😂😂
Remember, it's silver! I'm just joking! It looks like battleship gray. He said you won't even notice the wall color when they get it organized. We'll have to wait and see. Have a great weekend!
It looks very nice , painted !! Great job Al !! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!! 🥰🥰🥰
Painted shop looks great! And finally no fence work in an episode. Yay!!!
Every homesteader I watch seems to return for exchange most things they buy at Harbor Freight. I wonder why? 🤔
Cheap Chinese junk
Man! Once you started with the paint it was amazing how quickly the room got lit up better! Watching the light on the ceiling as you spray a swath onto the primer I could see the light on the rafters and deck get visually brighter. That was cool.
shops looking good, kinda forgot you had to leave it in the middle to work on barn, will be nice to see it finished out.
I'm a big proponent of getting the best quality and you will never be dissapointed. I would only buy Grayco for a airless sprayer. More expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Can’t wait to see the pastures green up, hope you will get some better weather. Looking forward to seeing the development of Gina’s secret garden.
When you have high humidity....( snow ) shop warmth at least at 60 degrees with fan circulation would have cured in 12 hours. Latex paint should be strained between days of usage. We would use pantyhose. Latex has a skim that happens when it is in open air. Clean, clean with warm water through the whole system ,the blow out with pressure air. Hang up tp drain out.. Also, clean the hose and spray head after DAILY USE. Do not be lazy and skip the daily cleaning.
Feel a little closer! Detroit silver in the work shop! From Detroit! Looks Great!
Use a ceiling paint...it has refractability additives are in it. Brightens rooms
Love how it looks. I would definitely build stairs and railing for your mezzanine. Can't wait to see it all organized.
Paint won't dry unless you heat the space. Pay attention to the instructions for that on your paint buckets. Just bring the heat up and it will dry fast.
Good morning Lumnah! Hey, next time you spray latex get ya a 3/4" nap roller and back roll. Your coverage and dry time will be much better. It will also fill the OSB cracks/gaps.
Good Morning from Perth Ontario Canada! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Thanks Ted - hope you do too!
Good Job!!!! What would we do without Harbor Freight! hahahahaha I enjoy watching and learning from you all sooo much! Great color!!! Oh...the yellow...that is about the color of my living room! hahahahaha

it looks like battle ship gray I panted a lot of that when I was in the Navy a long time ago having said that it looks good
Good Saturday afternoon New Yolk🥚City .... the shop is really coming together now. We've been having a lot of rain down here in central PA, which is a whole lot easier to deal with than snow. Hope you guys have a nice weekend AL, Gina & Olivia🚜😊✌🏻
Looking good! Hoping the sprayer last you a long time.
Great job. I am surprised that you did not paint the front gable end over the big doors or at least finish the wood header. Good luck with the starts, Gina.
Good morning Al and Gina, have a nice day. I almost forgot about the work shop you have worked on the barn for so long.
Gooooood Morning Liz. It’s going to be nice to get the workshop up and running
Just a thought for you...always strain your paint when using a sprayer prevents nozzle glogs. I used a piece of window screen and have very few problems. Good job, well done. I still prefer to roll and when I spray, I back roll with a dry roller.
Try using pantyhose, nothing strains paint better, but the disposable funnels with screens are cheap and work great with small volumes !
They make a bag strainer that you can use in the 5gal bucket. Just put the suction hose in the bag and push into the paint. I painted my whole house with no issue. Great color choice. I have gray in my shop as well.
Great idea. Thanks for the tips! Have a great weekend!
Make sure to put some oil in sprayer to prevent rust, I have one from Harbor Freight 4 years no problems.
Can't wait to see the shop all organized with shelving , benches and cabinets... Looks great
VERY SURPRISED!
I honestly did not think I'd like the color BUT
It really looks GREAT Al👍
Looks good. Once you have everything set up it’s going to look awesome.
The grey looks great.
Greetings from Gatwick wishing you all a lovely and peaceful weekend 🎉
Good morning everyone! AL & Gina & Ms. Olivia. Love the ride alongs such a beautiful state. God bless
Gooooood Morning Doug
Sorry you are still getting snow.
But you always fine something to do.
Glad your paint is not yellow.
Hopefully it’s the last one.
We have a large shop and shot white because of lighting. Tried a gray prior but shop was dark. My two cents. Looking good
Like the grey. Your shop reminds me of the helicopter bay on the USS Scott that was battleship grey.
hmmmm, maybe a drop cloth runner, after you have pre-taped where the wall meets floor, less tedious? love your expertise on everything that you both do !
I like the grey. Have you thought about a 1ft kick panel on the bottom of the wall? With moving things around you will bump the wall and that will give you a buffer.
Great job painting the work shop! If you get the urge the “weigh anchor” you’ll want a different color. Judging by how much paint was around your nose, you need a better sealing air mask.
Yes white for workshop would get dirty too easy...the light gray gives light but won't show the dirt so easy ..and dark color not good since you want light.
Goooooood mooooorning AL, Gina and Olivia fellow viewers and all my friends Hoodie from Jamaica 🇯🇲. Wow, it's another weekend. Let's see what's going on with our neighbors

Gooood morning everyone, from David in Omaha, NE. I hope everyone is doing fine. Al's workshop is going to be awesome when it is all finished. Not a whole lot left to do. Al, do farms plant fields of corn or soybeans there? Or, Is it just pasture lands? I was just wondering. Have a blessed and wonderful day y'all. Cheers!
Good morning David! 👍🏾🤩🐶
Goood morning David!
Gooooood Morning David. Thanks. We have a lot of pasture in our area but the farmers around here plant mostly corn and its feed for the dairy cows. There is a couple that do soy beans, wheat and sunflowers.

Al your pallet of color is white, gray and black. You should pick up a color wheel. Yellow looks good with gray.
Most paints need to be thinned a bit for the sprayer to work optimally.
If the spray job won't be completed in one day, it doesn't necessarily have to be cleaned at the end of the session but it must be left under pressure (plugged in) until you're ready to clean it out. Otherwise, air will get into the machine and dry some paint, creating clogs.
The tip is reversible; if it doesn't spray correctly, twist the tip 180 degrees (while it's in the tip guard). Shoot a couple of times somewhere you can make a mess. Twist the tip back and test if it shoots correctly.
The only way a sprayer will last for many years is to clean it thoroughly.
Good idea to cover an area of floor just for the sprayer at the start of a spray job. It will get messy!
Keep 2 pails with some water near the paint bucket.
Start the cleaning process by pulling the syphon tube out of the paint, turn on "prime" to allow the paint out of the machine back into the paint bucket. Turn off power while holding tubes above paint pail. Place the tubes into the clean pail of water (don't need a lot of water yet, just enough to cover the end of the syphon tube to not run dry). Hold the tubes in the water (so they don't wander) and turn on prime. Wash the dried paint on the syphon tube. Clear the remaining paint from the hose by shooting it back into the paint pail while it's running in "prime". If the pressure is too low, turn on "spray" and keep shooting against side of paint pail (maybe cover it so paint doesn't fly out while you shoot). (I turn spray on & off in this process, minimizing high pressure). Stop shooting when you see colored water coming out. Close up the paint bucket and move it away. With the machine still in "spray", lift syphon out of dirty water, submerge the gun in the dirty water, turn power on and shoot until no water comes out. (You've completed first clean). Wash the syphon tube, then lift the syphon out of the dirty water and run it in prime till water stops coming out. Turn power off, dump the dirty water and get clean, warm water (fill to approx 1/3).
If you're gonna clean the gun and pump filters, now's the time to do it.
Split the syphon from the small tube, submerge syphon (big tube) into clean water, aim small tube into separate "dirty" bucket and turn on "prime". Go thru the same process as before but keep the clean water separate from the waste water. Alternate running clean water thru the pump (prime) and hose/gun (spray). Remove the tip & tip guard during this phase and clean them separately with a tooth brush, if necessary). When you see clean (or virtually clean) water coming out, empty the hose and gun again and do one more cycle with a product designed specifically to be left in the machine for long term storage. Varsol or paint thinner works too. Dip the tip in the solvent or preservative as well. Getting the machine and hose empty will minimize water mixing with preservative. Use just enough preservative to see it come out the gun (minimizing use of toxic liquid). This prevents rust and seizing metal parts.
Those who repeat this process at least 3 times ( 3 (1/4 full) pails of clean water) will have a working machine for a very long time.
Love the color.
Don't know if it might be connected, but I burnt up a Wagner because I was using a gel-coat type of paint from Glidden. Might mean nothing.
