After replaying the part from 3:25 about 30 times. I've come to the conclusion that I need a longer version of this.
Made this atrocious song tolerable.
I love how articulate this guy is.
Is there a longer, recorded version of the amazing rendition he did at the end? Please tell me there is, it's too beautiful to not be recorded.
funkymonk816 Unfortunately there isn't. Sorry.
I thought the same thing when I watched this. TAKE MY MONEYYYY MAKE IT HAPPEN lol
***** Thanks a lot for introducing this beautiful piece of music.
1LIVE If you can somehow get him to do it again but the whole song I would be willing to pay $10+ just for that single track. It was so beautiful and elegant...
***** And I just subscribed to your channel
This man can make an accoustic piano version of any song and it would be better than the original!!!!Truly a Genius!!!!
chord change at 4:02 gave me goosebumps
I love his incite. I love how he doesn't pretend like he likes the song either.
Whoever came up with this idea is a genius! Thank you Chilly and Einslive for making these videos.
Danke 1Live, dass ihr diesen Mann dazu gebracht habt, dies für euch zu machen, ehrlich. Ich hoffe, dass er noch viele weitere Sachen für diese Reihe macht, würde mich wirklich unglaublich sehr freuen :)
I can listen to Chilly's piano cover of this song over and over again. CHILLY! Please make a cover of this entire song!
Wonderful rendition at the end.
Thanks for this series! It`s absolutely wonderful!
Thank you for appreciating it! ^^
What a fun, informative and enjoyable channel. I love the respect you give the creative thought process behind pop music.
Thanks Chilly!!! you da man!!! - I would love to hear a longer piano rendition of this song as you did at the end of this video complete with Rhythmic Displacements - keep up the good fight :)
endlich eine neue Folge, klasse!
does anyone else know any channels or blogs similar to this guy?
I really love what he's doing
Strong Songs.
Switched on Pop Podcast is a recent discovery of mine.
3:23 "Make it snappy" mit "lass ihn zuschnappen" übersetzen, ist zumindest interessant :)
So for one of the best basic music analysis I have seen that goes in to the actual destruction
I hope to see more of your work and enjoy your videos ! :)
Honestly I would love to have a full length masterclass from Chilly, he would be an amazing professor
This is so emotional! I really love this on and on.... I use videore to loop it!
Just replace youtube with videore in the browser bar and done!
beautiful. it is cruel that there is no longer version of it.
Thank you Master Gonzales! You are healing me explain music, how it works and its theory to my daughter who wants to know it but only via HER music, pop music. She lives for Taylor Swift and this helps her understand that underlying theory is true, cos if it works for Tay-Tay, it must be real.
Thanks.
I normally don't like this song, but Chilly's version is just mesmerizing.
Chilly you are a genious, congrats!
This is the first video I've seen like this. Not a big fan of Taylor's music, but can respect it. The breakdown given by Chilly Gonzales was fantastic, spot on. I'll be subscribing to this channel. Thanks again.
The rendition he did in the end is way better than the real song... lol
Oh gosh, now I want to buy a classical piano cover version of Shake it Off done by Chilly Gonzales.... but I doubt such a full song exists. Loved the way he played that.
melody, lyrics and how to make a catchy song just comes easy for Taylor. She's a music genius same goes to Max and Shellback of course.
Awesome piano work, beautiful!
Best Pop Covers album by Chilly now!!!!! Do it and take my money!!!!
Nice, informative video here, and while I had been able to avoid this song prior to this it is now in my head and I've been humming it all morning. I can't "shake it off". Thanks, Chilly! ;)
Now I'm off to learn about rhythmic displacement.
incredible talent, just incredible...
3:25 Damn Chilly
sehr genial!!
Ugh, this comment section makes me want to put hot needles into my eyeballs. I'm sorry if you have to read these comments Señor Gonzales, and I hope you don't get the idea that people are truly so vapid and shallow. This is an incredibly informative video and explains a lot about how and why this song gets stuck in your head so easily, this is great for musicians and songwriters who are trying to learn from the professionals. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
wonderful explanation Chilly... I clapped after the video was over! :)
Wundervoll!!!!!!!!
wow your own version gave me goosebumps
I play this video over just to hear him crush it at the end. Fireeee
Fascinating
Would love to hear his take on Messuggah's Bleed!!
+Kory Lynn Madame, Take this thumb up. Wouldn't expect such a request in the comment section of an 1live Video. Nice!
Nerdist Podcast. Chris Hardwick. Chilly Gonzales. Thank You.
Ich liebe das sooooo sehr 🖤

Nice!

best song ever.
Ask Chilly to do an extended version of this song because it really was awesome that and no rest for the wicked his playing style blows all the other piano versions of this song to shit
Redditor, gamer girl, and authentic nerd here!
I love Taylor Swift, such a pure talented girl with unique ideas and songs that never get old. I love listening to her inspiring music while I play my favorite video games, like Legend of Zelda. LOL I am such a geek because I have an Adventure Time shirt.
- Sarah Marie, real geek girl, gamer nerd, Level 7 Wizard in World of Warcraft, moderator of /r/TwoXChromosomes
Is this irony, or... Damn, I don't quite understand, but damn me if I don't feel like that about Tay Tay.
i learned those techniques by myself, and i think i can create really good music
please more
We want his version of "Shake it off" please..
ugh, i fucking love you, chilly. you're great.
I've often said that there's a 'playground chant' style to contemporary pop music.
we say "earworm," too, chilly!
a true genius.
nice
Please.... ladet die vollständigen Coverversionen von Chilly hoch :-) Thank you!
Leider, leider... gibt's die nicht.
It's all Max Martin...the Svengali behind a lot of these pop music masterclasses. These are great btw
+peter joseph Taylor S can write her own.
She just co-write with him
damn that piano is incredible
yeah that's all i was thinking lol
Were the circling shots all steadycam?! Sweet lord.
3:25 wow
it sounds like falling in love to someone very special. ❤️ 3:25
Beautiful hands.
That might explain the charm of minimalism - for decades Philip Glass and Steve Reich to an even more extreme degree have based their compositions on repetitions. One can even attribute the longevity of music by Bach and others to repeatable tones.
Hotel California!
What was that he played on the intro ?? I know I heard it before I just cant remember what it was.
juxtopose It's from "Hotel California" by the Eagles.
Hello, I stay in K
A man who must say i'm a genius is no true genius !!
Check out more about Chilly. 1. Its part of the schtick 1a. He really is!
FFAAANNTTAAASTIIIIC :))))))))))
What about the fact, that the melody just happens on the black keys - so just on a pentatonic scale (it seems to be in F# major)? ... Gonzales might have forgotten to mention that. I bet, the composer Max Martin played and fooled around the piano, inventing this line ... nice idea ...
It's actually the horns here's the voice memo on how the song was made www.grammypro.com/professional-development/video/listening-session-taylor-swift-1989-part-3
Thats a big piano
Whats that song at 1:25?
+James McCauley Mozart - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Was that Hotel California at the beginning?
I'd say so
No. Vangelis - Chariots of Fire.
paokole2 I'm going with Hotel California
My bad. I forgot the intro. Yes. That is indeed Hotel California.
FlyingSujin67 Well, the song contains a similar arpeggio thingy at the end, but that doesn't mean that he was playing Hotel California. Just arpeggios on two chords.
Freu dich
Meeeeeehr!
fucking genius
Auf dem Klavier hört sich das Lied viel~ besser an.
chilly s version is much better.
Haha he was playing "Hotel California" in the beginning of the video
omg thank you I couldn't figure it out!!
I love you, all
Why isn't he speaking German like he did on Böhmermann's show?
I like how the /r/redditarmie comments are there for a split second then disappear thanks to this addon lol
I'm mind fucked
he's a genius, but in one point I would disagree with him here, I don't think the harmonie is so unimportant with this melody based song, I would say the harmonie is the cart, meaning, the emotions are still coming from the harmonie, so even wtih a strong melody like this, without harmnie, it would lead to nowhere.
Not Taylor Swift, but Max Martin.
+desdichago She co wrote with him.
She couldn't even play 5 chords to save her life.
She plays the guitar, piano, banjo and ukulele fluently.
Philip V seriously? She writes all her songs by herself. She wrote her third studio album JUST by herself without any co writers. Check your facts.
Erster
Valuable lessons, but man I wish he didn't have some of those melodies just slightly off.
It is a widely accepted fact that the piano, and its cousin, the organ, were the two worst instruments invented, that lead to several deaths.
What do you mean by this? Any links to this information?
Song Jae Gu As a child, I witnessed countless animals smashed to death from falling pianos. ACME anvils are also far worse than pianos.
Taylor Swift take notes...
"and Taylor Swift knows it" more like Max Martin knows it ;) some goes for can't feel my face
In the voice memo for shake it off max and shellback provided the chords. Taylor thought of the melody and the lyrics herself. She talked about this in the grammy pro vid. Taylor is not like the other pop stars who works with max. She can actually write a song on her own.
What a joke.
