I have an electric scooter (Segway Ninebot Max) I use once a week for my 5 mile each way commute. It's lots of fun, folds down and fits under my cubicle desk. I also bike 1 day a week. I think it's good not to always be in the car. Oh and wear skateboarding pads and a good helmet in case of an oops!
I'm not sure this thing is a huge win in terms actually being useful, but for $995 it's a genuinely cool artifact of Japanese design, and of a snapshot of specific moment in time of our collectively figuring out of what we want the next phase of [electric] transportation - at a price that keeps it cheerful for that purpose. I want one!
You do realize that is not the only scooter Honda sells in the United States. Also that Honda sells several rear wheel drive models. Some even with 6 cylinder boxer engines.
Very interesting scooter from Honda. But for those who are actually considering buying: other scooters such as ninebot are better, cheaper, longer range. But a bit bigger.
Totally want one for use when I'm on a road trip in my EV. They don't exactly put chargers in convenient places so this would be great for popping over to a restaurant while you wait for your car to charge.
but can you charge it with your ev? its not good to keep a battery fully charging constantly and its not good to keep the battery stored at full or low charge either
I think I want a version of this video that has a laugh track whenever the bits of the scooter are assembled or whenever the scooter is seen in action. Also, it needs exaggerated tire squeels in the racing segments.
You said 'half liter' producing 2.5hp ...wow we are far from an RC165 from the early 60s who was the champion of hp/displacement even unequaled until today. I understand that you meant 50cc, I hope
We need E-Bike Buyers Guide. Car prices are crazy and more young people and young families are going for cargo e-bikes as a second vehicle . The UA-cam reviewers out there aren’t up to your standards.
It's a neat product and I'm glad to see a big company like Honda innovating, but I don't see it being all that practical or popular due to its weight. 50lbs. is still awfully heavy for the average person to lug around. Picture carrying this up and down a flight of stairs to and from a train or subway platform and carrying this through your huge office tower. I think a Razor electric scooter is probably a cheaper and more practical solution.
@@AAutoBuyersGuideMaybe not - but many city dwellers are regularly faced with stairs, and they're a natural market for this sort of thing. Suburbanites usually drive right to where they're going.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide Just busting your chops Alex.. glad u are alright. Thanks for the review, didn't even know Honda sold one of those scooters until this vid. Actually gonna consider one now that I know to avoid grates..... 🤣🤣🤣
This scooter is something you can keep in your ev car for when the battery runs out and you are stuck in some crap neighborhood and you don't want to die that night, you can easily get your ass to safety. 😊
Over priced, only 12 miles range and slow with small wheels. I stick to my 16inch wheels electric foldable bike that can carry my gf in the back for a joyful ride 2geter 😅
I’d been looking forward to this video, and it didn’t disappoint. I’d like to see these types of videos more often, even though I would probably never buy a scooter.
I’m honestly surprised Honda doesn’t sell e-bikes like Yamaha does. I know Yamaha doesn’t sell cars, but they both have a Motorsports division and Yamaha’s e-bikes are through that division.
the ebike market is already flooded though, no one would buy a honda ebike at their most-likely-ridiculous msrp+dealership markup. you could easily just buy a better ebike from any other brand or build your own for top of the line motor+battery performance at a fraction of the price for any prebuilt
@@terrycruise-zd5tw Idk, the Yamaha Wabash is a pretty decently priced gravel bike compared to the specialized and trek versions, which are easily twice the price. I would think Honda could make good midrange e-bikes. But you’re definitely right about the e-bike market being saturated.

I cant help but think segway scooters are far superior in every way, and significantly cheaper. This thing is cool, but the novelty wears off when you start comparing like for like.
I prefer an e-bike, an e-bike from honda that can reach 40 mph and 50 miles of range is going to be awesome, instead of this weak scooter. I don’t need a compact size like this.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide search wired freedom e-bike. It cost double the price the of Motocompacto but it’s well worth it. Even if you buy an e-bike that cost the same as motocompacto, it will still have more max speed, and more range.
I’ll wait for the one from Acura with SH-AWD.
Type S as well
I’m willing to do type R if it comes with the wing.
World's first 2WAWD vehicle 😂

I'm in the same boat, it seems so fun
I’m in the same boat but for a g I figured why not? If anything I’m sure I could always sell it at a minimal loss later down the road.
I literally bought one off a whim, and I cannot stop smiling. lol
Hey Alex, glad you are OK and shared the crash. FYI, you were actually in *Torrance* at Honda HQ. Irvine is 35 miles away (and in a different county).
Thanks for sharing the crash footage. As an escooter owner toppling over is always a possibility.
If the front tire extended out like the back it would be a little more stable. ❤
And more complex. -Travis

Perfect for Irvine, where the speed limit on every street is 55. Luckily they have lots of sidewalks.
Alex, It was very generous of you to include the crash footage. 🤪It appears a 15 mph top speed is about 14 mph too fast for this toy. 🥵
They key lesson is to know the size of your tires and beware of gaps larger than that. -Travis
Better off with a jetson bolt. 1/3 the cost and similiar in size yet infinitely modifiable which honda owners will want to do.

Cool idea to keep in the back of an ev to get to a further away spot while charging :)

The original Motocompo had a 49cc motor. That is .05 of a liter, not half a liter.
Of course you fell LMAO, the laugh from that one guy was amazing.
Now I can feel like a toddler riding a carry-on suitcase at the airport. Awesome. It's an interesting product design at least.
I love that they are making a new version of the motocompo.
My face when you crashed right in front of me 😅 *glances down at scooter under me, concerned*

I think it's too small... The front wheel looks dangerously small, and for full size adults, I just can't see fitting on one...
3:42 lack of storage ? Givi will make a complete set of suitcases, it will be nice with a Corbin seat.
Love the wipeout Alex!!!! surrree...blame the tire!! why not blame the cone for being there too! 🤣

Umm yes. To answer your question for the click bait. Honda does make a scooter. And for many decades they have.
This should just come standard in a new CRV

How much range with a 6' 200lb + dude on top? I recall Alex is around 6' so at least it doesn't look ridiculous.

In many jurisdictions e-bikes are limited to speeds under 30mph (assisted, that is). The range isn't impossible with improving battery tech.

if they doubled the wheel size so it would handle 3 miles of gravel road it be great for trips into town
