No other song this year has made me smile, headbang, shake my head in amazement, and replay several sections, ALL AT FIRST LISTEN. Definitely going to be looking into this band and more of their work!
The guitar part at 4:32 . . . Just so goddamned hauntingly beautiful. One of my favorite melodies of all time. (and when they bring it back about a minute later. So fkn sick!
Not sure about tapewound, but I know some guys use roundwound nickel strings on rosewood, it's not really THAT bad. In the worst case, you can change your fingerboard when it become too damaged or you can cover fingerboard with something like epoxy, but I recommend to let professional luthier do that
Tone is mostly in the hands. Sounds cliché. But true. When I first got my five string fretless, which was perfectly setup at the shop, it didn't "mwah". So I ignorantly assumed that the action was too high. It wasn't. Doing that totally screwed up the intonation. And since I only had a clip on tuner that had a hard time sensing the low B, intonating it took 5 times longer than it should have. Two hard lessons were learned from this.... I know how to setup my (or any other) bass as well as a shop now. And as my fingers became more accustomed to playing again after a few decades away from playing, the "mwah" and tone I was chasing suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Firm but not tight on the left hand. And don't pluck too hard on the right. Closer to the neck will get it easiest. But after a while, your fingers will just know. Edit... Roundwound for that growl and "bite". But flats an tapes get the mwah as well. Just not as bright a sound. Much respect to you.
@@VanguardSound7 thanks for this! I’ve played bass for a few years, but just a self taught kinda punk player… I just ordered a 5 string fretless (hasn’t arrived yet) and I’ve been trying to learn my scales and modes, and aim more for the frets themselves instead of between them so I’ll be somewhat prepared when it arrives. I’ve also been trying to find any tips I can, so I appreciate this kind of info…
Я серьёзно не улавливаю почему у вас возникла такая ассоциация. Но это забавно. Наверное это потому что, мои коты просто ни разу не дристали на ковёр. Впрочем, надеюсь они и впредь не станут так делать))
Apparently Artisan Era is the home of dope ass bass players hahahhaa
;)
A number of amazing albums have been put out by the Artisan Era this year but I think this one is my favorite!

That bass tone is fucking perfect!
Pavel is one of the best in the game rn. Dude's easily one of the guys who inspires me to do the best I can on fretless bass, myself.
Thanks, I am so happy to hear that!
I love how chill this dude is all through this playthrough
how to get views as a tech death band:
1. Post fretless bass playthrough
2. repeat step 1
Noted ;)
my ass
Strange that such an idea would work, but it does!
Yo dude, you forgot it must be at least a six string.
Duuuuuude!!! Everything about this is amazing. I get really burnt out on fretless, but your technique paired with your tone is phenomenal!
Stephen Garrett there is like 5 bands using fretless basses. How'dyou get burnt out?
Absolutely amazing !!!!!
Coming from another fretless bassist, this is amazing!
Man, I wish I could play an instrument like this.
Practice your scales.
I love that toneeeee!!!
WE NEED A GUITAR AND DRUM COVER OF THIS SONG.
iKarisma you meant play-through
That is awesome good job
Man! you've been busy! After I gave up playing 3 years ago, a lot has happened. And on a fretless, killer!
are you the bass player for Zero Hour!? Still blasting those records after all these years
wonderful
that fretless bass sounds amazing
My new #1!
Great
nice technique, no bend in wrists
😍😍😍
How do I make my jazz bass sound like this omg
Perfect intonation !
Would tapewound strings get me in the neighborhood of that tone? I’m worried roundwound strings are gonna eat my rosewood fretboard.

rounds or flatwounds?
Round, nickel, D'Addario
You can't get that attack with flats.
Вступление. Будто кошка пытается надристать на ковер...

awful
Probably one of the weakest six-string fretless technical prog-metal bass playthrough videos I've watched.
