- Purportedly the top-selling early version of this familiar standard. When RCA Victor issued the title on LP during the 1960s they used an alternate take from the same session which is also available elsewhere on UA-cam.
The original 78rpm was issued on Victor 20626 - Me And My Shadow (Rose-Jolson-Dreyer) by Jack Smith (The Whispering Baritone), with Dave Dreyer (piano), recorded in NYC April 28, 1927

I was interested to read Jack was born in New York, yet his voice seems to have an English accent,
and you can understand every word he sings in his unique style. 👍
One of his parents or both may of come over from England and he picked up on the accent.
