What is the percentage of dogs that have a leg amputated, that have Phantom Limb Syndrome? I rescued a dog a year ago, who has to wear a cone all the time, or he chews his back leg. S neurologist vet specialist recommended amputation, or as an alternative, pharmaceuticals, however, I live in Mexico and the medicine is so expensive that I doubt I could or almost anyone here would be willing to pay for the medicine. Of three medicines, just one is 500 pesos approximately a week, or 2000 pesos a month. The cost of amputation with hospitalization and medication is 7000 pesos. 1,800 pesos is 100 dollars. I am very tempted to get the amputation, but am worried about this phantom pain. he was hit by a car when young, abandoned in the street and the bones on his back leg healed in a bad position as well. Any resorts or studies you would recommend? Thank you.

My dog has degenerative myelopathy and no longer has use of her back legs due to due to the nerve damage. She just chewed two nails off her toes because of it.

@@lee_likes_bees ong ty for responding. my kitten has been in a cone for so long bc we can’t seem to find what’s wrong with her. she’s itching everywhere so we think it’s allergies but then we also notice she focuses her nibbles and licks at her nub where her tail used to be. what worked for your kitty? ik every cat is different but as a first time cat mom it sucks to know she’s been in a cone for the majority of her life so far. sorry that was a lot
