Some people may think this is something not from an idol group. Everything is absolutely calming, ones that you will still want to listen to even after decades and feel new about how you heard it first. Not to mention, even their song Growl which is not even a ballad, has an orchestra version!! EXO discography is truly one for the books!!
Let me explain one of the theories behind the story in EXO's "Universe" MV. First off, "Universe", as you are discovering, with most everything to do with EXO, is connected to EXO's concept and storyline. So some of the scenes are designed to make connections to EXO's story. The most obvious point is that in the lyrics they are talking about "Searching the Universe" for that lost or missing love. So you can see how that parallels how EXO are searching the universe for the Tree of Life and for a way to fix everything that is going wrong, etc. The theme of the MV is “cafe universe" and one theory is that the story is being told through coffee metaphors. As you may remember, EXO's official fan color is Cosmic Latte -- the color that is said to be created when you combine all the colors of the stars in the universe -- which is thought to be why this whole MV uses the creamy tan and brown tones and why it is centred around coffee. In order to understand what is happening in the MV, you should be aware that the story is not unfolding in chronological order. The plot is more like an explanation of feelings than a straight storyline. One theory is that the coffee is a metaphor for the feelings of bitterness. Two guys share a coffee, but they both hate its bitter taste. They think that if they add something to it, it will be less bitter. One person (Chanyeol) wanted to fix things by making it sweet, so he decided to add sugar. The other guy (Suho) tries to fix things with a more mellow, smooth approach, so he adds milk or cream to the coffee. However, there are limits to everything, and even when you have the best of intentions, you can take things too far. As the leader of the group, Suho wants to smooth things over, so he keeps adding milk as he tries to cover the bitterness, but in doing so it also masks the sweetness of the sugar and the pure taste of the coffee. So this is where you see the cup overflow as it is overpowered by everything being added to it. By covering the bitterness with an overwhelming amount of cream and sugar it has now made the coffee something neither one wants to drink. So in other words, making hasty decisions without considering others feelings, viewpoints and opinions will ruin relationships in the process. The story seems to primarily focus on Suho, Chanyeol, and Sehun. Some theories say that it looks as though Suho and Chanyeol are not on good terms. Which is thought to be a continuation of how we saw Chanyeol and Suho fighting in "Sing For You," but instead of solving the conflict by talking it out, they turn their backs and build a wall around the problem. At one point you see Chanyeol with his back turned and his cup sitting upside down, and he is staring blankly at an empty spot, which is thought to be Suho's place. The conflict is affecting their friendship as a group and Sehun wants to help his friends. But it is unclear what Suho and Chanyeol are really fighting about because they are hiding their true feelings and are passivagressivly pretending like everything is OK. This is where Kai, Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin enter the plot. Some theories have interpreted the teaser images from "Universe" as showing the members split into two groups. It is thought that Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin and Kai represent the internal struggles of the group because we see them in the MV and in the teaser images for "Universe" sitting at the table almost as if they are restless and struggling to come up with an answer for how to fix things or to smooth things over, etc. And the other members -- Suho, Chanyeol, D.O. and Sehun -- represent the physical manifestation of that conflict. Sehun figures that if he understands his friends' (Suho and Chanyeol) internal struggles he can figure out how to fix things. Sehun's internal struggle is depicted by Xiumin who contemplates how he can fix his friends’ mistakes (Kai and Baekhyun). You see Xiumin sitting at the table with a glass of water and tissue paper. Mirroring the problems caused by Chanyeol and Suho, we see Baekhyun add too much sugar to the coffee and Kai adds too much milk to the cup and spills the coffee. However, Xiumin seems to have come up with a solution: water can dilute the sugar and make it less sweet and the tissue can clean up the spilled coffee. D.O. and Chen are the two that are thought to represent the bitterness of the coffee in their parallel groups. Chen scribbles on the paper almost as if this represents the internal struggle that the group is going through, as if the pain, emotion and conflict is just a big mess that they are struggling to work out. Kai (who is representing Suho's internal struggles) blames himself as the reason for Chen's scribbles (Chen represents the coffee's bitterness, which is the problems within the group). Kai's (Suho's internal struggle) guilt becomes so encompassing that it turned those scribbles into physical ropes that tied him up and traped him. At one point you see Kai sitting at the table covered with cups of coffee. Each cup is different and that is thought to represent a different memory of moments in their friendship. Each memory is unique and special, but Kai seems to be overwhelmed by it all. He sits with his head on the table trying to sort out all his feelings and emotions, etc. But if you notice, what he is focused on the entire time is the plate of sugar cubes. But before Kai's guilt (Suho's internal struggle) can really consume him, Sehun steps in and gives him a new cup of coffee. Allowing Kai to have the chance to start over. Sehun also handed Kai a saucer with sugar cubes. He knows that Kai's (Suho's) regret is rooted in the fact that he was not able to give his friend Baekhyun (Chanyeol) the simple taste of sweet coffee. Which is a metaphor for not being able to provide a simple fix to their problems. If Kai (Suho) can make the coffee the perfect amount of sweet for Baekhyun (Chanyeol) this time he may be able to move on and stop holding on to the guilt, regret and anger, etc. which will help to resolve the conflict within the group. Also, it seems as though parts of the story are being told from Kai's point of view. Some theories think that this connects to the story in their "Sing For You" MV as well. In "Sing For You," Kai was the one that seemed to be interpreting the emotions in that MV through his dance, so some say he is also the interpreter of what is happening in "Universe." Next you see that the table becomes empty and the only things remaining are the sugar cubes, the cup of coffee and the glass of water. Some say the sugar represents their ability to carefully create a sweeter future, while the water is a reminder not to repeat past mistakes. In the end, Kai decides not to add anything to the coffee, and instead, he gives Baekhyun the coffee in its pure black bitter form. Because he has now learned that there is no reason for them to keep trying to change each other. As bitter as life can be, they come to the conclusion that they should accept its imperfections -- that in friendships, there will be struggles and misunderstandings, but sugarcoating it or pretending that everything is watered down or milky good, isn't being honest with themselves. Which is what is really happening within Suho and Chanyeol -- they may be sitting next to each other but deep inside, they're opposing one another as shown through Kai and Baekhyun's actions. On the surface it seems as though the members are all talking about their friendships and the struggles they had over the past few years. But, as we have discovered with many of EXO's songs, SM has actually been planning their song releases and MV storylines since their pre-debut days, way back in 2012, as we hear in EXO's pre-debut teasers. So, if that is the case, then that was before EXO had even gone through any of their major struggles as a group, so I think the meaning of "Universe" may have evolved only because we as listeners have reinterpreted it to fit a new narrative. That's the beauty of songs like this, you can interpret it however you want and make it fit whatever story you want or need it to.

The members also explained sometime before that this refers to their relationship with each other.. like in the song Universe misunderstanding and awkwardness between them occur but thats how they became close to each other.. how they have grown to understand each other even without words... just like whales send signals to call for other whales whenever they need each other. I think EXO was kinda isolated by SM before. they only have each other and a few very close friends for a long time. And they learned to survive using each others strengths. It maybe a bit dramatic for others but I do feel this vibe in them. One of the things I love about them. They are proud of each other. ❤
"Sing For You" came out in 2015 and it is literally, as the title says, EXO singing to EXO-L. Some say the MV and song are about how the members feel and how they are dealing with the 3 Chinese members -- Kris, Luhan and Tao -- leaving the group. The remaining 9 members really felt like they let fans down during this time and that they broke their promise to always be one. (As you may know, EXO's slogan is "We Are One," which represents how even as sub-units they were one group and they are one with the fans, etc. So, when the Chinese members left, the rest of the members felt like as a group they broke that promise.) So this song was a promise and apology song. This was so far from simple times for the members of EXO. This was probably one of the hardest times for EXO and EXO-Ls. That's why you see Chanyeol and Suho get in a fight, because as the leader, Suho really blamed himself for not being able to keep the group together and Chanyeol is pretty much yelling at Suho to stop blaming himself and that there is no point because Kris, Luhan and Tao made their own choices and there is nothing he could have done about it even if he wanted to, etc. They are all angry and sad because they felt like they were all so blindsided by everything that happened. A lot happened during this time, and there was so much uncertainty about what it meant for the group, etc. In the beginning you see them happy because this was after they have worked through their anger and are now learning to move on. The parts where you see them sad and angry are flashbacks to recent moments where they were still working through their feelings of anger and sadness. In the end of the MV you start to see them being happy and playing around as friends again because they were learning to get past it all and move on and they made the choice to let it go and to keep singing for us, EXO-Ls. :) The whale seems kind of weird until you discover the meaning behind it all, and then it shows how clever and meaningful they were with the concept. The whale is supposed to represent Alice a.k.a. "The Loneliest Whale in the World", who is an unidentified whale species, she is the only whale that has been found to emit a call at a really high frequency, which means that when she speaks there might not be any other whales that can hear her or answer her back. Sehun is the one who is in the spacesuit and he is supposed to represent the lonely feeling you get floating all alone in space. The astronaut comes from the story/poem about an astronaut who spent time alone in his spaceship as he came back to Earth and how he said that time was the longest and most lonely of mankind. The combination of these two concepts, along with the lyrics of the song, talk about being away from home, being somewhere unfamiliar (since the whale and astronaut are in space) and being isolated from everything and everyone. I've been EXO-L since 2018 and although I know a lot of EXO's history, I never thought that their MVs could explain those hard moments of their path as a group. I'm baby exo-l, I discovered universe this year, it came to me at a difficult time in my life...every time I listen to it, it floods my soul with emotion so it's difficult for me to be very objective with it, but both songs They are beautiful and I thank you very much for starting to react to exo. It’s another power ballad, but less peaceful/comfy…It has more of a lonely/longing/hopeless vibe-think end of the world! I’ve been loving these reactions, especially your musical knowledge and commentary that doesn’t just focus on the vocals! It’s something I’ve been craving that I don’t think any other reaction channel brings to the table. Thank you for spending time with EXO!!

Your commentary on his vocals here -- his choices of when and how long to use vibrato in order to convey vulnerability -- has me excited for you to react to his solo music. Because as you caught on here right away, Chen is VERY intentional with his singing choices. He does this in order to give his singing a lot of nuance and dynamics, all for the purpose of conveying very specific emotions or feelings. Imo this is what makes Chen really stand out as a vocalist: he is not only a technical proficient vocalist, but he is very skillful in picking and choosing from his impressive vocal arsenal/toolkit (technique, volume, register, speed, etc) in order to bring a song alive with the style and emotion he wants to get across. I really recommend you check out some tracks from his newest album to get a real first look at Chen's incredibly dynamic singing -- specifically "Mirage of Flower" (no mv, just lyric videos), "Light of My Life" (does have an mv) and "Free World" (no mv, just lyric videos).
So I went back to check out your reaction to "Sing for You" in Killing Voice and you also took special note in that reaction of Chen singing the chorus! Your commentary for Chen's singing is even the sound bite you use in the introduction to your reaction: "his tone is nice, but the way he sings, I like that." :)
As complex as some EXO arrangements/production can be, it's also so nice to have the more stripped down songs like these be so clean, so intentional, that they create the perfect platform for their voices to really shine in all their subtlety.

If you keep on diving into EXO discography and listen to their B-sides you will be surprised how many amazing songs you’ll find. EXO apparently has an official color called Cosmic Latte, its supposed to be the color of all the stars in the universe combined. And according to google, its also the original(?) color of the Eribong (Lightstick) instead of the white that we have now. I think it adds a lit of depth to their Christmas albums bcs of the colors and the visuals

Sing For You music video was inspired by a poem by Joey Barro titled 'The Astronaut's Whale'. It's actually a children's literature focusing on sense of belonging, loneliness and home. Basically this song is about EXO's bond with each other and the fans. They're each others' 'home'. You can see them fighting loneliness, having disagreement, despair etc and in the end of the daycome back to each other because that's where they belong.

I'll give an example, Baby Don't Cry - Little Mermaid Lightsaber - Star Wars(it's actually a collab w/ Star Wars for the franchise) El Dorado - south american myth Moonlight - greek mythology (prolly eros and psyche) Love Me Right (mv) - Alice in the Wonderland Jekyll - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Peter Pan - title speaks for itself While the album with Tempo as its title track was tracks divided according to each members' super powers.

He can have no meaningful communication with others of his kind.

Thank you for your genuine reaction and analysis to EXO's songs. All EXO’s winter songs are so beautiful and I would like to suggest a gem that only a few reactors have reacted to it. It is one of my favourite EXO's beautiful winter song "Wait". I really love their beautiful vocal with only simple guitar background. As mentioned by EXO in an interview for their Love Shot-the fifth album repackage that this song was originally selected for their winter album, but due to some reason, there was no winter album after their last "Universe" 2017 Winter Album, they included this song for EXO-L so that we could have a winter song. There is no MV for "Wait", you can react to the fan made lyrics MV and their live performance in “[0xFESTA with EXO #3]” with all members or the performance in their concert in Japan (only 6 members because D.O and Xiumin were in the military). Even the composer of Wait was very happy because he knew this song was for EXO’s winter album but for some reasons, it was not included in every winter album and he has almost forgot about it. It’s been a long “wait”. Looking forward to your reaction.

Beyond the meaning in the music video, the Sing For You album has a song in collaboration with Star Wars called Lightsaber, which is another reason why they used that resource. Although EXO has had as a concept since their debut the fact that they come from EXO Planet, well it is a union of many things lol

In the same way that Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas comes into rotation again whenever we're heading into the holidays, for many kpop fans a lot of EXO songs come into season again each winter for the last decade, especially First Snow due to it being people's go-to song when they get their first snow of the year. It hardly ever snows where I live but I still like to get out the EXO winter albums every December.

It’s my favorite from EXO, and I never skip a single song when I put it on: Universe, Been Through, Stay, Fall, Good Night, Lights Out. They’re all incredibly beautiful! (And I also really enjoy when D.O. comes in on that bridge in Universe. To be expected when he’s my ultimate bias, but anyway. He’s super adorable in the behind the scenes from this MV shoot. And he’s iconic for sporting that short military haircut as an active idol at the time. About the whale, i read about this specific species that they're really rare and near their extension. On top of that they usually prefer to live in solidariy and stay individually in the depth of the sea. But still send those 'whaling' loud cries from time to time to reach each other. So as how lonely and image of an astronaut in a silent space is, the same goes to the image of this type of whale. And its cries correspond to the title of the song "sing for you". So all in all, the imagery of, as you said, loneliness and longing to others.

The whale concept was derived from the a whale called Alice aka ‘The Loneliest Whale in the World’, who is an unidentified whale species, being the only whale emitting a call at 52-hertz. The astronaut concept was derived from the story of the astronaut who spent 48 minutes in his spaceship and coming back saying that those 48 minutes were the longest and most loneliest of mankind.
The combination of these two concepts placed within the MV discusses being away from home, being somewhere unfamiliar (since the whale and astronaut is in space) and being isolated. Isolation was one of the themes in the mv (when Kai was seen being alone when the other members were playing/when Chanyeol and Suho were fighting). The song and the MV seems to talk about how everyone, in their lifetime, would meet a low point where they feel most isolated and most out of their place, but that this song (and EXO) will be there to warm their hearts.
Also it came in a dark time for all of us when the 3 ex member lefts and many fans left the fandom. Suho blamed himself a lot for not be "good enough leader" to keep everyone together. Supposedly the fight with Chanyeol in the mv is cause Chanyeol is trying to make him see reason and to don't leave or blame himself anymore.

Let me explain one of the theories behind the story in EXO's "Universe" MV. First off, "Universe", as you are discovering, with most everything to do with EXO, is connected to EXO's concept and storyline. So some of the scenes are designed to make connections to EXO's story. The most obvious point is that in the lyrics they are talking about "Searching the Universe" for that lost or missing love. So you can see how that parallels how EXO are searching the universe for the Tree of Life and for a way to fix everything that is going wrong, etc.
The theme of the MV is “cafe universe" and one theory is that the story is being told through coffee metaphors. As you may remember, EXO's official fan color is Cosmic Latte -- the color that is said to be created when you combine all the colors of the stars in the universe -- which is thought to be why this whole MV uses the creamy tan and brown tones and why it is centred around coffee.
In order to understand what is happening in the MV, you should be aware that the story is not unfolding in chronological order. The plot is more like an explanation of feelings than a straight storyline.
One theory is that the coffee is a metaphor for the feelings of bitterness. Two guys share a coffee, but they both hate its bitter taste. They think that if they add something to it, it will be less bitter. One person (Chanyeol) wanted to fix things by making it sweet, so he decided to add sugar. The other guy (Suho) tries to fix things with a more mellow, smooth approach, so he adds milk or cream to the coffee. However, there are limits to everything, and even when you have the best of intentions, you can take things too far. As the leader of the group, Suho wants to smooth things over, so he keeps adding milk as he tries to cover the bitterness, but in doing so it also masks the sweetness of the sugar and the pure taste of the coffee. So this is where you see the cup overflow as it is overpowered by everything being added to it. By covering the bitterness with an overwhelming amount of cream and sugar it has now made the coffee something neither one wants to drink. So in other words, making hasty decisions without considering others feelings, viewpoints and opinions will ruin relationships in the process.
The story seems to primarily focus on Suho, Chanyeol, and Sehun. Some theories say that it looks as though Suho and Chanyeol are not on good terms. Which is thought to be a continuation of how we saw Chanyeol and Suho fighting in "Sing For You," but instead of solving the conflict by talking it out, they turn their backs and build a wall around the problem. At one point you see Chanyeol with his back turned and his cup sitting upside down, and he is staring blankly at an empty spot, which is thought to be Suho's place.
The conflict is affecting their friendship as a group and Sehun wants to help his friends. But it is unclear what Suho and Chanyeol are really fighting about because they are hiding their true feelings and are passivagressivly pretending like everything is OK.
This is where Kai, Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin enter the plot. Some theories have interpreted the teaser images from "Universe" as showing the members split into two groups. It is thought that Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin and Kai represent the internal struggles of the group because we see them in the MV and in the teaser images for "Universe" sitting at the table almost as if they are restless and struggling to come up with an answer for how to fix things or to smooth things over, etc. And the other members -- Suho, Chanyeol, D.O. and Sehun -- represent the physical manifestation of that conflict.
Sehun figures that if he understands his friends' (Suho and Chanyeol) internal struggles he can figure out how to fix things. Sehun's internal struggle is depicted by Xiumin who contemplates how he can fix his friends’ mistakes (Kai and Baekhyun). You see Xiumin sitting at the table with a glass of water and tissue paper. Mirroring the problems caused by Chanyeol and Suho, we see Baekhyun add too much sugar to the coffee and Kai adds too much milk to the cup and spills the coffee.
However, Xiumin seems to have come up with a solution: water can dilute the sugar and make it less sweet and the tissue can clean up the spilled coffee.
D.O. and Chen are the two that are thought to represent the bitterness of the coffee in their parallel groups.
Chen scribbles on the paper almost as if this represents the internal struggle that the group is going through, as if the pain, emotion and conflict is just a big mess that they are struggling to work out. Kai (who is representing Suho's internal struggles) blames himself as the reason for Chen's scribbles (Chen represents the coffee's bitterness, which is the problems within the group). Kai's (Suho's internal struggle) guilt becomes so encompassing that it turned those scribbles into physical ropes that tied him up and traped him.
At one point you see Kai sitting at the table covered with cups of coffee. Each cup is different and that is thought to represent a different memory of moments in their friendship. Each memory is unique and special, but Kai seems to be overwhelmed by it all. He sits with his head on the table trying to sort out all his feelings and emotions, etc. But if you notice, what he is focused on the entire time is the plate of sugar cubes.
But before Kai's guilt (Suho's internal struggle) can really consume him, Sehun steps in and gives him a new cup of coffee. Allowing Kai to have the chance to start over. Sehun also handed Kai a saucer with sugar cubes. He knows that Kai's (Suho's) regret is rooted in the fact that he was not able to give his friend Baekhyun (Chanyeol) the simple taste of sweet coffee. Which is a metaphor for not being able to provide a simple fix to their problems. If Kai (Suho) can make the coffee the perfect amount of sweet for Baekhyun (Chanyeol) this time he may be able to move on and stop holding on to the guilt, regret and anger, etc. which will help to resolve the conflict within the group.
Also, it seems as though parts of the story are being told from Kai's point of view. Some theories think that this connects to the story in their "Sing For You" MV as well. In "Sing For You," Kai was the one that seemed to be interpreting the emotions in that MV through his dance, so some say he is also the interpreter of what is happening in "Universe."
Next you see that the table becomes empty and the only things remaining are the sugar cubes, the cup of coffee and the glass of water. Some say the sugar represents their ability to carefully create a sweeter future, while the water is a reminder not to repeat past mistakes.
In the end, Kai decides not to add anything to the coffee, and instead, he gives Baekhyun the coffee in its pure black bitter form. Because he has now learned that there is no reason for them to keep trying to change each other. As bitter as life can be, they come to the conclusion that they should accept its imperfections -- that in friendships, there will be struggles and misunderstandings, but sugarcoating it or pretending that everything is watered down or milky good, isn't being honest with themselves. Which is what is really happening within Suho and Chanyeol -- they may be sitting next to each other but deep inside, they're opposing one another as shown through Kai and Baekhyun's actions.
On the surface it seems as though the members are all talking about their friendships and the struggles they had over the past few years. But, as we have discovered with many of EXO's songs, SM has actually been planning their song releases and MV storylines since their pre-debut days, way back in 2012, as we hear in EXO's pre-debut teasers. So, if that is the case, then that was before EXO had even gone through any of their major struggles as a group, so I think the meaning of "Universe" may have evolved only because we as listeners have reinterpreted it to fit a new narrative. That's the beauty of songs like this, you can interpret it however you want and make it fit whatever story you want or need it to.

I think EXO was kinda isolated by SM before. they only have each other and a few very close friends for a long time. And they learned to survive using each others strengths. It maybe a bit dramatic for others but I do feel this vibe in them. One of the things I love about them. They are proud of each other. ❤

"Sing For You" came out in 2015 and it is literally, as the title says, EXO singing to EXO-L. Some say the MV and song are about how the members feel and how they are dealing with the 3 Chinese members -- Kris, Luhan and Tao -- leaving the group. The remaining 9 members really felt like they let fans down during this time and that they broke their promise to always be one. (As you may know, EXO's slogan is "We Are One," which represents how even as sub-units they were one group and they are one with the fans, etc. So, when the Chinese members left, the rest of the members felt like as a group they broke that promise.) So this song was a promise and apology song.
This was so far from simple times for the members of EXO. This was probably one of the hardest times for EXO and EXO-Ls.
That's why you see Chanyeol and Suho get in a fight, because as the leader, Suho really blamed himself for not being able to keep the group together and Chanyeol is pretty much yelling at Suho to stop blaming himself and that there is no point because Kris, Luhan and Tao made their own choices and there is nothing he could have done about it even if he wanted to, etc. They are all angry and sad because they felt like they were all so blindsided by everything that happened. A lot happened during this time, and there was so much uncertainty about what it meant for the group, etc.
In the beginning you see them happy because this was after they have worked through their anger and are now learning to move on. The parts where you see them sad and angry are flashbacks to recent moments where they were still working through their feelings of anger and sadness.
In the end of the MV you start to see them being happy and playing around as friends again because they were learning to get past it all and move on and they made the choice to let it go and to keep singing for us, EXO-Ls. :)

The astronaut comes from the story/poem about an astronaut who spent time alone in his spaceship as he came back to Earth and how he said that time was the longest and most lonely of mankind.
The combination of these two concepts, along with the lyrics of the song, talk about being away from home, being somewhere unfamiliar (since the whale and astronaut are in space) and being isolated from everything and everyone. Your commentary on his vocals here -- his choices of when and how long to use vibrato in order to convey vulnerability -- has me excited for you to react to his solo music. Because as you caught on here right away, Chen is VERY intentional with his singing choices. He does this in order to give his singing a lot of nuance and dynamics, all for the purpose of conveying very specific emotions or feelings. Imo this is what makes Chen really stand out as a vocalist: he is not only a technical proficient vocalist, but he is very skillful in picking and choosing from his impressive vocal arsenal/toolkit (technique, volume, register, speed, etc) in order to bring a song alive with the style and emotion he wants to get across. I really recommend you check out some tracks from his newest album to get a real first look at Chen's incredibly dynamic singing -- specifically "Mirage of Flower" (no mv, just lyric videos), "Light of My Life" (does have an mv) and "Free World" (no mv, just lyric videos).
So I went back to check out your reaction to "Sing for You" in Killing Voice and you also took special note in that reaction of Chen singing the chorus! Your commentary for Chen's singing is even the sound bite you use in the introduction to your reaction: "his tone is nice, but the way he sings, I like that." :)

And according to google, its also the original(?) color of the Eribong (Lightstick) instead of the white that we have now. Sing For You music video was inspired by a poem by Joey Barro titled 'The Astronaut's Whale'. It's actually a children's literature focusing on sense of belonging, loneliness and home.
Basically this song is about EXO's bond with each other and the fans. They're each others' 'home'. You can see them fighting loneliness, having disagreement, despair etc and in the end of the daycome back to each other because that's where they belong.

Love Me Right (mv) - Alice in the Wonderland
Jekyll - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Peter Pan - title speaks for itself
While the album with Tempo as its title track was tracks divided according to each members' super powers.

The opening and closing visuals and the melancholy feeling of the song are a genius pairing, imo.

Thank you for your genuine reaction and analysis to EXO's songs. All EXO’s winter songs are so beautiful and I would like to suggest a gem that only a few reactors have reacted to it. It is one of my favourite EXO's beautiful winter song "Wait". I really love their beautiful vocal with only simple guitar background. As mentioned by EXO in an interview for their Love Shot-the fifth album repackage that this song was originally selected for their winter album, but due to some reason, there was no winter album after their last "Universe" 2017 Winter Album, they included this song for EXO-L so that we could have a winter song. There is no MV for "Wait", you can react to the fan made lyrics MV and their live performance in “[0xFESTA with EXO #3]” with all members or the performance in their concert in Japan (only 6 members because D.O and Xiumin were in the military).
Even the composer of Wait was very happy because he knew this song was for EXO’s winter album but for some reasons, it was not included in every winter album and he has almost forgot about it. It’s been a long “wait”. Looking forward to your reaction.

Beyond the meaning in the music video, the Sing For You album has a song in collaboration with Star Wars called Lightsaber, which is another reason why they used that resource. Although EXO has had as a concept since their debut the fact that they come from EXO Planet, well it is a union of many things lol

In the same way that Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas comes into rotation again whenever we're heading into the holidays, for many kpop fans a lot of EXO songs come into season again each winter for the last decade, especially First Snow due to it being people's go-to song when they get their first snow of the year. It hardly ever snows where I live but I still like to get out the EXO winter albums every December.

It’s my favorite from EXO, and I never skip a single song when I put it on: Universe, Been Through, Stay, Fall, Good Night, Lights Out. They’re all incredibly beautiful! (And I also really enjoy when D.O. comes in on that bridge in Universe. To be expected when he’s my ultimate bias, but anyway. He’s super adorable in the behind the scenes from this MV shoot. And he’s iconic for sporting that short military haircut as an active idol at the time. He did it for his movie role as Roh Kisoo in «Swing Kids», which I heartily recommend you watch if you ever feel curious to see him act). Now I’m ranting again. I’m sorry.

About the whale, i read about this specific species that they're really rare and near their extension. On top of that they usually prefer to live in solidariy and stay individually in the depth of the sea. But still send those 'whaling' loud cries from time to time to reach each other. So as how lonely and image of an astronaut in a silent space is, the same goes to the image of this type of whale. And its cries correspond to the title of the song "sing for you".
So all in all, the imagery of, as you said, loneliness and longing to others.
