That top looks awesome on the JL. Your installation and explanation of what you are doing make these mods install look easy.
Always appreciate your content my friend, worst mistake I ever made was selling my 2008 Wrangler to make ends meet last year, I'm itching to get back into one, just have to wait for the right time, so I'm living vicariously through you for the time being. I hope you and your family are well and can't wait to see you on the trail again some day
The final result is awsome on your JL, i love it. On your hands the install looks so easy. Many thanks for another great advice and video ( the un packaging included 😁).
Thanks for this informative instruction video. You were very detailed and my husband and I did not argue not once lol. We always argue putting together anything. I appreciate you!
Very Nice. Looks great sir! Thank you very much for taking the time to make this install video!
Excellent videography!!!! Some of the best I’ve seen on UA-cam!!!! Great video and very informative!! Thank you…..
Great video, love the way you explain everything so clearly. Looks great! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱❤️🇺🇸👍✌️🥇💪👌
I have a sky one touch roof on my JL and I still enjoyed this vid ;-)
I really like how it folds back! I like how the inside portion isn’t facing up like the bestop soft tops. It folds so the top of it is still facing up. Really neat design! And it has those little clips to hold it down as well built right in! Those are cool little features that really gives things an edge!!!
Agreed. The flip top on this is a far better design than the old Trektops that I've run in the past. I also really like that you can store the rear windows in the top.
@@wayalife how do you store the rear windows in the top? I didn’t even notice how that would be a possibility watching the install.
@@StormbornJKU The rear half of the top is actually 2 tops. You can kind of see it here ua-cam.com/video/ddwll0VSO2g/v-deo.html You can store the windows in between the fabrics like a sandwich.
I was thinking the exact same thing. My trek top was a way more “complicated install. Doesn’t look near a nice with the rear panels off. And the way it flips back I don’t care for but seemed to be the only option at the time. May need to change it out soon.
Clearly one of the best overall channels on UA-cam. Eddie and Cindy are great working together. Love all there installs anytime I buy anything for my JL I just watch WAYALIFE and go out and install it. Thank you both for all your hard work.
I really liked the safari top
I wonder what this would look like with half doors? Simply amazing channel love watching you guys and support everything you two are doing!!
Nice instructional vid! Price just went up over $100 more for this top. I shouldve ordered it last week!
I installed my Bestop Trektop NX onto my JLUR in the winter.
I had to loosely set it on the Jeep while running the heater on full blast to heat it up enough to fit.
I was wondering about the front brackets, but then you folded open the top. Nice.
Great video. I have the factory jlu soft top. I know you don’t like the way it looks, but man it is so easy and fast to put the top down or up, or into Safari position. I often take the top down when traveling, then put it up when I get home or to work. Taking the top down is less than a minute. Putting it back up is about 3 minutes or a little less. Can’t beat that for my use.
Yup, to each their own. I hate how the factory soft top looks, I hate that it doesn't have zippers and I hate how crazy big and heavy it is. Installing this top took time for sure but now that it's all assembled, I can take it apart and put it back together in about 5 min. ALSO, I can store my rear windows in the top itself and when the front is flipped open, it doesn't look like some kind of mistake. But then, that's just me. 😎
@@wayalife just curious, how come you dislike the channel guides versus the zippers? i’ve had tops with zippers and with the channels and find the channels make the windows so much easier to put back on
@@hunterking4002 Maybe it's just me but I found that the channel guides on my factory soft top were a lot harder to work with, especially when trying to open up the rear window and when it's cold out. So long as you keep your zippers clean and lubed, I've always found them to work well.
Good install video. Would've done me some good about a month ago 😋. I bought the same one for my JL. I haven't noticed any leaks with heavy rain. Around town it's not so bad or excessively noisy. But, took it out over 80mph and i could see the top lifting on the header portion (still didn't leak). Overall, I'm pleased with price, function, and looks. I'm waiting for temps to drop so I can leave it as a safari top. Keep these great videos coming. Almost forgot; took me 5 hours from removing the hard top to the last adjustment on the new top 😬😅
Do you recommend it and how is the noise compare to the hard top? How much it cost you ?
@@3bche I was able to find it for a little over $700 (MSRP says it's over $1k). For $700 I'd buy it again; for $1k I'd look at other options. You can't compare/complain about the noise compared to the hard top. You can still hold a conversation though. I'm keeping it as a summer/in-town top. I'm leaving the hard top for winter and long distance driving. It's also very nice to open and close the front so easily. And the back pieces store in the top so you can put them back on if you get caught in some water or dust storm.
Very interesting.. I really like the door surrounds and the little metal piece that attaches to the surrounds on the driver and passenger front seats. Seems like this would do a lot to remove wind noise and wind. The issue with the wrangler is a lot of wind comes in between the door and the rollbar. I also have the alien sunshade which also lets in wind between the end of the shade and the rollbar. I'm wondering if I can just purchase the surround with that metal piece that attaches to the surround. Seems like with that in place plus the alien sunshade, i'd get a little bet of sun but most of the wind and wind noise would be removed? I was thinking about fabricating a solution, but this might actually work perfect?
Not a fan of the fastback tops, I don’t have a JL. BUT still a great video, great work guys. I’m happy you’re back to making more videos regularly. Keep em coming. 👍🏽 I have nothing but good things to say about my Bestop products, but I’m happy to see other quality products being shown.
I LOVEJeepwrangler❗🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
If you don't mind me asking what the heck do you do for a living to do all this just asking
Great instructional information. The fastback looks great. Do you find any trunk storage issues with having a fast back?
Mainly that you no longer have a secure trunk. However, I do have a Tuffy Security Deck and that solves that problem.
Awesome video like always. I just noticed you changed your fenders to black.
Thanks for this! I just grabbed one 40% off +200 rebate from Amazon. It’s been on my list for awhile. I know it gets some bad reviews, but I don’t look at it like a cheap soft top. I look at it as the Cadillac of bikini tops. I hate the framed tops that stick out over the back of the roll bars. That and the window storage got me. I stay garaged and never drive in the rain so don’t much care if it leaks 😂
Yup. Gonna have to check this out for the JK. Mine is in about the same shape as the one you had on Moby…. Donesky
Without question, Bestop makes a nice top but I'm not sure it's worth the price now that I've tested a couple of other tops. This one took a lot of work to install but I'm quite happy with the end result.
I watched this video when it came out and I still went with the Best Top Fastback top and wish I didnt. Although the windows are easy to remove and go safari, not even close to being worth what I paid and I like the look of this one much much more. Plus when you put the Best Top top back, its just a huge parachute catching the wind. If you are undecided on this Rampage Trailview Fastback top or the Best Top one, go with this one and save the money...
To be totally fair and honest, this top ended up having it's own issues too. Looks are great, function is awesome but... I could never get the windshield header to seat tightly and this caused a lot of noise when driving at highway speeds. Really unfortunate too because I really wanted to like this top.
Cool
I am a newbie to jeep life. Did your DIY for doors and hard top on our 2021 Rubicon. Love it, don't want to put anything back on. However, I live with 4 long haired women, and they hate the back seat now. Need some of your expertise. Wind break with a Tonneau cover? I don't want to put the doors back on. Any recommendations?
Yes, a windbreak or what is typically referred to on a Jeep as a windjammer will help a lot.
Just bot a 2024 jeep wrangler sport s 4xe. I really like the look of the rampage but I went ahead and got the bestop soft slantback ( sunroof...sliding back panels...not the fully convertable). From all I've read, bestop performs better w regards to flapping and leaks. That rampage looked really good on ur jeep tho.....too bad it didn't work out. Nice video !
Yeah, it really is a shame this top didn't work out. Looks good but that's about it.
So I have a question for you, would you recommend me trying the new rampage top for the gladiator after installing this for the JLUR
I wish that I could say yes but to be honest, I don't think so. Overall, I like this top better than the alternative but unless the front windshield header has been redesigned, I would say no. Currently, it lifts up when driving over 70 mph and that causes a lot of wind noise.
So, with your edit, about the front bracket, is it now dependable to drive daily in all weather? Or does it still leak?
Unfortunately, it did and we have since stopped using this top. And really, that's a shame because there's so much we liked about this top. That said, things may have changed and I would reach out to Rampage about it before giving up on it.
do any fastback soft tops just fold all the way back similar to the factory soft top? I love the look of the fastback, but don't want to run the top in safari top style. I like having the top up, windows on or off, or having the top pulled all the way back for as much open air as possible.
Just curious are you going to make review of this top. I would like to have you opinion on it. I am thinking about getting one.
So, after long term use, what I can tell you is this. I really like the look of this top way better than the Bestop and think it functions way better in that you can store the windows in the top. Assembly of the door surrounds is a pain but you only need to do it once. The biggest downside to this top is that the front windshield header channel lifts a bit in a cross wind or when driving above 70 mph and that causes wind noise. I've contacted Rampage about this and they did offer some tips but none of them have worked as well as I had hoped.
dude where did you find the torx compartment for the tail gate? that is cool!
Great video! Definitely helped me with installing mine. Do you notice the wind lifting up the front header channel at all? I've got this top as well and at 45mph+, it's like the wind gets under it somehow and creates a gap. I've tightened those latches as tight as it goes but it still happens. Wondering if I'm alone with this issue.
You are not alone and it is frustrating. If you look in the comments, I have mentioned as much and I wish I could still make an edit to this video to let other people know about it. I would reach out to Rampage to see if they can help out. If enough people do, I would assume they could offer a better fix.
@@wayalife I just added some washers between the bracket and the jeep and that seemed to help alot. I also made support bracing out of 1/2 pvc to quiet the flapping of the top too. The washers definitely helped with the gap though.
Gotta a question. I watched your video and installed the exact top on the same model jeep. I cannot get the front drivers side to seal correctly. It leaves an air gap and I’m afraid it’s gonna leak when it rains. I’ve got the aftermarket clasps as tight as they’ll get. Please help??
I really am sorry to hear you're having this problem. I did as well and just never could get it to work right either. Really sucks because I like the top a lot otherwise.
I was wondering, what size tires and lift are you running. Do you change your gearing
On this video, you're looking at 38" Nitto Ridge Grapplers and on a JL Wrangler running EVO coilovers set to about 4.5" of lift. Also, running 5.13 gears.
How do you like the Ridge Graplers compared to the MT tire??
Honestly, I love my Trail Grapplers and still run them on 2 other Jeeps. However, I do love how much quieter these Ridge Grapplers are and how comfortable they are. Even though these tires are bigger than the 37's I was running, I am also seeing better fuel economy as well.
Does this interfere with the SpiderWebShade aluminum fasteners? I think I saw yours in the video?
Nice Awesome look .I do have a question in regards to your fenders did you replaced or just have them painted?
cool
Question. Can you see clearly through the rear view mirror? How noisy is it compared to your hardtop? My soft top on my TJ was horribly loud on the freeway.
Well, it's hard to say being that my spare tire pretty much blocks my view out the back. But, what I can see is clear. :) Noise is definitely more than my hard top.
They need this for the gladiator
Hi great video. Are you able to remove the the entire top if you want to and is it easy or a pain. Thanks.
Yes, you can and it isn't too difficult but I would not recommend this top for other reasons. Mainly, the windshield header channel lifting up at highway speeds is something I was never able to solve and it just makes way too much noise.
Was it an issue with the clamps not holding it down right enough. I know I the video you installed the clamps wrong at first. Can’t seem to find the ipdate video you did on that
Essentially, yes. The design of the clamps just don't hold down well enough to keep the header from lifting up and to the point where you can see the sky.
I had a Rampage on a old TJ. Can you still store the windows in the safari top?
As you see in the video, there is a top flap toward the rear of the top and yes, you can store the windows in it.
I'm having the same issue with my tailgate tire carrier bouncing and rattling with my 37" tire seem normal to you? I feel like a body mount tire carrier cage is the only real solution.
Nope, I have no such bouncing and rattling but then, I have an EVO tire carrier.
Hey Eddie…. Big fan … i just installed my soft top, looks super nice but i am wondering, whats the deal with the anti puddle bars….. it came on your kit too but you never mentioned anything about it and I googled it and i cant get no info
They're really not that necessary but if you look above the rear seat, there are pockets on the top going from the sound bar to the c-pillar roll bar. They just tuck in there.
Bestop seems to make a more user friendly version for daily operation. There aspects of the Rampage that seem really built well though. Would be interested in a comparison thoigh
So, having installed both, what I can tell you is that both have plus and minuses. The Bestop is without question, more factory like and a lot easier to install. However, once installed, this Rampage top really isn't too bad and I actually like the flip top Trailview feature of it a lot more. I've always hated the way the Sunrider on a Bestop opened up like a loose umbrella waiting to catch the wind and kind of like a mistake. However, the Bestop does seem to be quieter. With that said, the jury is still out on this top. I need more time to test it out.
@@wayalife Agreed. I've had nothing but the Bestop (factory) softop for my JK since 2013 and I've used the sunrider feature ONCE. It looks like crap in that mode and flops around quite a bit. This looks much cleaner in that flip back mode.
Would love to hear your comparison thoughts as of today. I’m planning on a fastback, but not sure which one yet.
What Cb radio are you using or do you use Ham or GRMS? I’m a noob and not sure what to go with lol
I would recommend whatever radio your friends or club uses. Typically, this would be a CB radio but for me, my friends all use race radios and that's what I have installed.
Hey Eddy! I heard that the Gladiator has had some Transmission problems, where the truck actually catches on fire underneath the cab! Got any views on it?
Not sure where you heard that from but mine has been fine and everyone I know with one has been fine. I'd need to know a bit more about the Gladiator in question, who was driving it and what they were doing to have a view on anything.
This is the first install you've done that I got lost in. I guess I'd have to see the directions.
💪🏼
Can a jeep have a removable third row seat? I have not seen videos
You can custom install just about anything but I haven't seen anything in terms of a bolt in kit for that.
Sweet Deal...
How about those self tapper? W/time and the amount of trails, they more likely to come loose or out.
Nut Inserts would had been better. Did Rampage test those?
Heavily considering this top for my JKU simply for the window storage feature built into the top. How is it holding up after a year and would you still recommend it?
So, I'm not 100% sure how it works on a JKU but on a JLU, I was never able to keep the header down. At speeds over 70 mph, it would lift a bit and make a lot of wind noise. I don't know if I would recommend it because of it and that's a shame because there was so much about this top that I really liked. I have let Rampage know about it and maybe things have changed now.
@@wayalife interesting 🤔 and that could be a deal breaker. Ugh. Do you know of any other soft tops that have the pocket storage for the windows?
Unfortunately, no. That said, I would reach out to Rampage and ask them if they fixed this problem before discounting their top as an option.
@@wayalife I think I’m going to have to. Thank you for the insight and thorough installation!
When you banged that piece in the place with your hand on the driver's side. How much paint did you scrape off?
LOL - actually, none. And yes, I looked when I took everything off to see how hard it would be but thanks for your concern.
I want to make it like this. Can you make it in New York City?
Looks like you might need some beefier hinges on that tailgate door. It appeared to have dropped when you opened it.
LOL - Already have a tire carrier installed. It's just in need of adjustment. Or, maybe replacement someday.
How difficult is it to remove the entire safari portion of the Rampage top? I couldn't determine from the video if this something easily removed and reinstalled. I enjoy getting my Jeep naked when weather permits.
Long time follower. Read a lot of the comments, and saw what the problems were. In your opinion, do you think this top is a reliable replacement for the OEM soft top? I regularly deal with heavy rain (South Florida), and drive over 70 all the time. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and keep up the great posts.
@@wayalife copy. Thanks for responding. Is there a fastback out there that you would recommend as a year round replacement?
@@9critical Bestop is really the only other brand that's worth looking at. And really, it's a shame because I really like the look and function of this top better.
I honestly think I like that top better than my best top.
Having run both, I can tell you that both have their plus and minus. The Bestop is easier to install but I think this Rampage top has a few design features that are nicer. That being said, I need to give it a bit more time before I can say whether or not it's "better" or worth buying.
@@wayalife looking forward to your long term review. One think I am on the fence about is the metal surrounds. Rubbing , noise. I think we like the same design features on the rampage and looks to hug the lines better. Wonder if there will be a notch back option for it like the best top accessory kit. I dig mine but have wait on a replacement( long story , lol)
Love your editing btw and your channel
Still rocking this top?? Just ordered one hope it’s solid n lasts ,any issues with it fly up or opening in higher speed driving while open?? I’ve read few people saying constantly flys open on freeway drives??
Unfortunately, I am not. I so wanted to love this top but in the end, I just couldn't get the front to stay on tight to the windshield. At highway speeds, it would always lift up and make a ton of noise. Really disappointed.
@@wayalife that’s not the answer. I wanted to hear well it’s too late. Mine got delivered today. I just finished opening it. The weird thing is I look at it and the latches that lock it to the front windshield are fixed to the frame now and they’re not adjustable like every video I see has those turnbuckles that you can adjust and make tighter. Mine does not have that, very weird. I wonder if they change their design
@@1978coop What is the verdict on your top? Did they change the design? Does it still have the highway wind noise issues?
I've always have had bad luck with these type of tools with leakage. Not a fan of self tapping screws. Just like screwing into plastic, just a matter of time b4 it loosens. Just my opinion. So are u staying soft top. I'm assuming you would have to take everything off to out hardtop back on.
Won't lie, the screws are not a winning point for me either. Hoping they hold together. As far as leaks go, hell, I have leaks with my factory soft top so it's no big deal for me. I still have my hard top and will use it in the winter. I've already taken this top apart and put it back together just to see how hard and how long it takes. Super easy and I can do it in about 5 min.
❤️
I just brought a Rampage Fast back top. I was told it would be $500-$600 to install. After seeing this I feel way better about installing it myself. Thank You!!!
