I've been flying this jet for a few days as my first 13.0+ besides the gripen and I've enjoyed it tremendously. I think I'm about 3:1 in it and despite the countless full uptiers it still performs admirably. I've gotten countless aces, many 6 and 7 kill games and two 8 kill games as the kit is still so deadly. Great review of my current favorite jet!
Make sense, carriers (and carrier planes) were never part of nor Soviet, not Russian doctrine, they had no need to project power and steer shit on another side of the globe unlike US
Soviet/Russian tech is badass, but it's kind of funny how often these planes are spoken of without actual dates or time frames being mentioned in most conversations. ALMOST all of Russia's current fighters are pretty much just modified Soviet tech with modern consumer-grade electronics shoved inside of them, and most of that tech is just to make the pilots lives easier given that those things are pretty much just analog calculators with rocket engines strapped to them.

I think the ER is preferable to the R-77 in 1v1 BVR. The standoff capabilities of the ER are just too good. Only issue with the Su27/33 is the single-target limitation in the current meta. No matter how good the ER and ET are, you're still severely outmatched if you play aggressively.
@@danaolsongaming I tend to agree, in a pure 1v1 the R-27ER is fkn amazing, mostly due to its speed and deltaV, but you have to be careful with positioning and stuff to make sure you can guide it in while being spamraam pushed.
@TimsVariety I tend to let my team get 10 Km+ ahead of me while I climb to 5 Km in altitude, sitting just below contrail alt where I play purely defense for those first few minutes. I can usually predict where the major engagement will be on the map bases on where the majority of my teammates are, and by the time I engage, most of the other team are low altitude and busy engaging my teammates. They rarely have the situational awareness to even know I'm above them. I've been able to consistently get 2-3 kills with the Su-27 in the current meta. That's how I've been able to scrape by with only the ER.
There is still a chance for TT Su-33, although information on this aircraft is really scarce, especially in english (i wish i knew cyrlic) it seems like it had few iterations/modernizations during its short production run, all without any designation changes. So an (early) or (late) variant is still on the tabl for WT. Allegedly, it had N001VE( or its variant) radar mounted at some point which would give it R-77 compatibility, would be nice for a TT variant, if its actually true Oh and yeah, the auto switch to IRST is really annoying, especially since its a fictional feature as far as i know. Meanwhile the irl ability to fire R-27s with IRST lock is still not implemented (you can lock with IRST, then switch to radar and fire manually, aircraft should do it for you though)

But with the fall of the ussr and the cancel of the Uliánovsk class carrier, all of that stayed on the paper and never entered service with the su33 and the Kutnetsov class. Nowadays the only guided air to ground missile that can carry is the kh31p beacause it uses the Spo150, but i dont know if it can carry the kh31a that is the AShM variant

Yea the meta for jets that don’t have active radar missiles is to back off in the beginning some what by using medium range missiles then strike unknowingly with aim 9’s or r- 60m’s or 73’s
Heck, I dare to say that this is probabbly the best Flanker in the game, sure, you don't have Fox 3s, but you can carry 10 of the best Semi-active radar and Heat seeking missiles in the game. And, also, this aircraft has a massive Ace Combat meme status, so that's a total plus.
The 27SM is better but the 33 is usable. 27SM is lighter with the same engines so more thrust to weight, R77 even though it's one of the worst fox 3s..fox 3 functionality is better then fox 1. 27SM gets more counter measures.

Su27SM: AL-31F-M1, 12,520kgf Only 170kgf less then the 33 in afterburner. If you are taking out of afterburner, the 27 and the 33 both put out 7220kgf of thrust in game. IRL I'm not sure, in game though the above is accurate.
@D4nger_CLO5E the max thrust shown by the su 33 is only during super low speeds such as take-off, it was designed with taking off small run ways such as the Baku 'heavy cruisers'. Otherwise it is the same as the su 27s engine

It may be off meta, but for a 13.0 it's quite good - I'd say in isolation it's among the best 13.0s. Unfortunately the fact that it faces so many 4th gens with Fox 3 makes it tough. I don't know how something like that could be balanced super well either either, even with sufficient BR decompression that will never come. Lowering the BR is out of the question obviously, but raising the BRs of Fox 3 carriers only helps so much because this is very strong for a Fox 1 carrier. Same reason I don't think a BR wall between Fox 1 and Fox 3 would help a ton.
There is probably a good chance we'll get the Su-37 as its own plane in the game at some point. They're quickly running out of modern stuff to add, and I'm sure they want to keep putting out new planes. We'll probably see a lot of prototypes/low-rate-runs like that come into the game.

I'm looking for advice if possible. I have started playing warthunder and purchased Premium on the 50% off deal which is speeding progress up. My main interest is the more modern jets around BR 8. My problem is I absolutely hate WW2 era planes etc they just do not interest me. What are my best options to get to where I want to be any quicker than just slogging through the era I hate, if there are any other options at all? I know Gajin sell higher BR jets but unsure if it's wise to buy one.
I love this jet. Soon as I saw it I was in love. I’ve had this issue on Xbox with the radar. It gets stuck. So what I do is turn on and off the radar and it solves the issue. All I want now is the SU37 terminator then I’ll be happy
How are you doing with it on Xbox? I play on Xbox also and keep at 9.7 Air RB, top tier like this seems hard enough as is, let alone playing on controller.
@ had to double set some buttons. I removed zoom. Use x for flares, the select button to switch weapons. And when I take off I press the radar/team acknowledgment button after my gear/ flaps are up so I can let the plane essentially fly on auto pilot for a little bit so my hand doesn’t hurt.
@@colbym7610You just have to get really creative with keybinds. I use left and right bumper as shift buttons so it gives me space for 20-25 different binds. I also unbind redundant stuff like chute and landing gear and only use the radial menu for that stuff. I also just use the secondary weapons selector so that I can drop bombs, fire missiles, and agms from only 1 button.
I can always tell when I'm fighting against one of these just by watching the radar because as soon as I reach their maximum range their radar pip looks like they're throwing chaff in front of it from all their missile spam😂
Still think this should've been put in the tree after the Yak. Gaijin is truly making there money off this though, as many as I've seen to my surprise.
From my experience, r77 right now is fine. Any fox3 shot further than 20km is low pk anyways, and inside those 20km r77 are fine. Backed by r27et, they are perfectly workable. I'm climbing in the su27sm, and I've killed countless f15s up high. Notch is still a meta, and you can fly close enough to get a solid r77 solution
R77 gets discredited so often for having bad range but it shouldn't be used for that in War Thunder. I know that statcard lies and says it has 50G pull but regardless its still a really maneuverable missile, so i use them like i would with French MICAs and do close range, high off boresight shots. Works well enough and have gotten plenty of ace matches playing this way.
My keybinds wouldn't help as much as folks think, I use an Elgato Stream Deck as a makeshift MFD sort of device in addition to my KB (You can see a short clip of it in my review of the AR-234) - and I also use a lot of overlapping keybinds, and a 6 button mouse.
It's basically a side sidegrade to the regular su27. If you have it, getting su33 is absolutely pointless. That's a plane for people who don't want to grind a soviet tree for some flanker experience

I was going to use a Soviet flag, as its a Soviet lineage jet, but was surprised to find it isn't available as a flag decal in-game. I could have sworn it used to be. Solid red had to be close enough.

Do you find your enjoying the game less with the missle meta, compared to the old skool Aim9b but still having to be profecient at guns? Anything over BR10 has completely lost interest for me and I have 4-5 tree's ground out very high. I just have no interest in slinging missiles. Would be interesting to see your take Tim. There is a small inaccuracy by the snail. In real life the su33 can only use 10 of the 12 hardpoints with weapons as the fire control system only can work with 10 connected weapons at a time. One can also see this as in the cockpit there should be only 10 weapon station indicator lights.
It can use all 12 in real life, there is multiple photos of this thing having 12 missiles loaded. The FCS lights are in-accurate in game, it should show 12 and so should the one in the su27sm show 12 instead of 10

I had a few clips using it, but none fit into the vid. Its something that doesn't come up in discussion too often, but assembling the timeline for my vids can actually be difficult sometimes depending on the length of the segments I record and all that. Sometimes I'll get a super long match that shows almost everything I want, but then its a challenge to fit in clips of the other stuff, etc etc. Sadly, I wasn't able to fit any of the ET-use matches in this one, but they may show up as stock footage in the future - got a few decent ones recorded.
Tim mentioned sometime back in 2023 that he has IRL friends who live in the warzone, and was going to remove Russian flags until the conflict was over. In the rare times Tim has actually talked about real world wars/politics, he's been a pretty consistent advocate for peace. He hasn't covered any Israeli stuff since they started bombing Gaza either, and has been pretty critical/fair of his own country's wars. Making a dumb joke like this when real people are dying for one dictator's ego is a pretty shitty thing to do.
I'm beyond jealous of your skill at this dumb game. I know you select specific footage and not every match is like the ones you show; but damn I dont think I get close to those results in any of my games. I dont think I've had a 13.0+ match with more than 2 kills.
In this particular plane, the Su-33, I had VERY good results - my ratio in the thing is like 7:1 , these werent cherry picked matches or anything. This particular jet just gave me really solid high scoring matches. Some OTHER planes ... different story ... stay tuned for my JA-37DI review ...

I posted about it a while ago, I've been painting over Russian flags until the current invasion is done with (most of the time people don't even notice - this is the first time in half a dozen vids that anyone said anything). I don't support wars of aggression, and I know people who live in the region whos lives are at risk every day.
I'm a sim and rb enjoyer the br on the su33 for rb is decent but in sim the br is hot garbage it vs fox 3 in sim and not a single other flanker is 13.0 or 12.7 even the base su27 vs fox3 and if you say the flanker would be broken at that br no it wouldn't the f15A,f16A,gripen,mirage 2000,German mig 29 which all have irrcm missles is at a lower br....and that's not including the jets that actaully have fox 3 at this br like the av8 and f4f

I've got real life friends who live in/close-to the combat zone, whos lives are at risk every day, and won't be displaying the Russian flag until the conflict is over. I'm constantly pestering them that we need more high tier air maps with ships - both to attack/defend, and carriers to operate from.

It may be off meta, but for a 13.0 it's quite good - I'd say in isolation it's among the best 13.0s. Unfortunately the fact that it faces so many 4th gens with Fox 3 makes it tough.
I don't know how something like that could be balanced super well either either, even with sufficient BR decompression that will never come. Lowering the BR is out of the question obviously, but raising the BRs of Fox 3 carriers only helps so much because this is very strong for a Fox 1 carrier. Same reason I don't think a BR wall between Fox 1 and Fox 3 would help a ton.

There is probably a good chance we'll get the Su-37 as its own plane in the game at some point. They're quickly running out of modern stuff to add, and I'm sure they want to keep putting out new planes. We'll probably see a lot of prototypes/low-rate-runs like that come into the game.

I'm looking for advice if possible. I have started playing warthunder and purchased Premium on the 50% off deal which is speeding progress up. My main interest is the more modern jets around BR 8. My problem is I absolutely hate WW2 era planes etc they just do not interest me. What are my best options to get to where I want to be any quicker than just slogging through the era I hate, if there are any other options at all? I know Gajin sell higher BR jets but unsure if it's wise to buy one.

I love this jet. Soon as I saw it I was in love. I’ve had this issue on Xbox with the radar. It gets stuck. So what I do is turn on and off the radar and it solves the issue. All I want now is the SU37 terminator then I’ll be happy
How are you doing with it on Xbox? I play on Xbox also and keep at 9.7 Air RB, top tier like this seems hard enough as is, let alone playing on controller.
@ had to double set some buttons. I removed zoom. Use x for flares, the select button to switch weapons. And when I take off I press the radar/team acknowledgment button after my gear/ flaps are up so I can let the plane essentially fly on auto pilot for a little bit so my hand doesn’t hurt.
@@colbym7610You just have to get really creative with keybinds. I use left and right bumper as shift buttons so it gives me space for 20-25 different binds. I also unbind redundant stuff like chute and landing gear and only use the radial menu for that stuff. I also just use the secondary weapons selector so that I can drop bombs, fire missiles, and agms from only 1 button.
That radar bug is so damn annoying 💀 it literally gets me killed sometimes
I can always tell when I'm fighting against one of these just by watching the radar because as soon as I reach their maximum range their radar pip looks like they're throwing chaff in front of it from all their missile spam😂
Still think this should've been put in the tree after the Yak. Gaijin is truly making there money off this though, as many as I've seen to my surprise.
when should we expect better version of r77? right now it outperforms and russia cant compete against f-15/16 or mirages.
No way to know. I suspect when we get the Mig-35 or a later model Flanker we might get upgraded R-77s, but thats just a guess.
From my experience, r77 right now is fine. Any fox3 shot further than 20km is low pk anyways, and inside those 20km r77 are fine. Backed by r27et, they are perfectly workable.
I'm climbing in the su27sm, and I've killed countless f15s up high. Notch is still a meta, and you can fly close enough to get a solid r77 solution
R77 gets discredited so often for having bad range but it shouldn't be used for that in War Thunder. I know that statcard lies and says it has 50G pull but regardless its still a really maneuverable missile, so i use them like i would with French MICAs and do close range, high off boresight shots. Works well enough and have gotten plenty of ace matches playing this way.
i almost always get 2-3 kills with this SU-33, u just need a good tactic gameplay and you’ll be fine

Sure, but its only got dumb bombs and unguided rockets. Without any standoff weapons, top tier SPAA is going to be pretty fierce.

My keybinds wouldn't help as much as folks think, I use an Elgato Stream Deck as a makeshift MFD sort of device in addition to my KB (You can see a short clip of it in my review of the AR-234) - and I also use a lot of overlapping keybinds, and a 6 button mouse.

Maybe not, the Su27sm got some great FM and engine buffs and feels a lot more competitive now. That would be my choice
It's basically a side sidegrade to the regular su27. If you have it, getting su33 is absolutely pointless. That's a plane for people who don't want to grind a soviet tree for some flanker experience

I was going to use a Soviet flag, as its a Soviet lineage jet, but was surprised to find it isn't available as a flag decal in-game. I could have sworn it used to be. Solid red had to be close enough.

I've been painting over Russian flags since the war began, and this vid was the first time in at least a year that anyone even noticed. TBH I'm kindof surprised anyone cared one way or the other.

There is a small inaccuracy by the snail. In real life the su33 can only use 10 of the 12 hardpoints with weapons as the fire control system only can work with 10 connected weapons at a time. One can also see this as in the cockpit there should be only 10 weapon station indicator lights.
It can use all 12 in real life, there is multiple photos of this thing having 12 missiles loaded. The FCS lights are in-accurate in game, it should show 12 and so should the one in the su27sm show 12 instead of 10
Nope there is plenty of documents to back up the fact it can only support 10 missiles at a time but yes you could add an extra 2 not connected.

I had a few clips using it, but none fit into the vid.
Its something that doesn't come up in discussion too often, but assembling the timeline for my vids can actually be difficult sometimes depending on the length of the segments I record and all that. Sometimes I'll get a super long match that shows almost everything I want, but then its a challenge to fit in clips of the other stuff, etc etc. Sadly, I wasn't able to fit any of the ET-use matches in this one, but they may show up as stock footage in the future - got a few decent ones recorded.

Tim mentioned sometime back in 2023 that he has IRL friends who live in the warzone, and was going to remove Russian flags until the conflict was over. In the rare times Tim has actually talked about real world wars/politics, he's been a pretty consistent advocate for peace. He hasn't covered any Israeli stuff since they started bombing Gaza either, and has been pretty critical/fair of his own country's wars. Making a dumb joke like this when real people are dying for one dictator's ego is a pretty shitty thing to do.

I'm beyond jealous of your skill at this dumb game. I know you select specific footage and not every match is like the ones you show; but damn I dont think I get close to those results in any of my games. I dont think I've had a 13.0+ match with more than 2 kills.
In this particular plane, the Su-33, I had VERY good results - my ratio in the thing is like 7:1 , these werent cherry picked matches or anything. This particular jet just gave me really solid high scoring matches.
Some OTHER planes ... different story ... stay tuned for my JA-37DI review ...

Yes. I posted about it a while ago, I've been painting over Russian flags until the current invasion is done with (most of the time people don't even notice - this is the first time in half a dozen vids that anyone said anything). I don't support wars of aggression, and I know people who live in the region whos lives are at risk every day.
I'm a sim and rb enjoyer the br on the su33 for rb is decent but in sim the br is hot garbage it vs fox 3 in sim and not a single other flanker is 13.0 or 12.7 even the base su27 vs fox3 and if you say the flanker would be broken at that br no it wouldn't the f15A,f16A,gripen,mirage 2000,German mig 29 which all have irrcm missles is at a lower br....and that's not including the jets that actaully have fox 3 at this br like the av8 and f4f

I've got real life friends who live in/close-to the combat zone, whos lives are at risk every day, and won't be displaying the Russian flag until the conflict is over.
