i was an early illuminaughtii subscriber and there definitely was a point before all this stuff came out where her videos would have constant editing errors (long gaps where audio wasn’t inserted, missing clips, etc) and it felt like it was becoming a content farm, i legitimately thought she was using an AI output before i learnt about her “team”. ANYWAYS, my point is: she killed her own channel by making less effort over time, and longtime viewers noticed it
I only unsubscribed from her when the Legal Eagle thing happened, but I had been considering for a while because the quality of her videos had obviously gone downhill and I was also starting to get weird vibes about her as a person

I guess it's the whole "it takes one to know one". I don't remember exactly what the quote reference in the first place, but in Blair's case, to know bad business practices, she needs the experience in it. Which she clearly has. I am also well aware that the business practices is a small part of her downfall, but yeah. The plagiarism is another example.

So I do worker's comp--I'm not a lawyer, and it's only tangentially related--but from my understanding, unfortunately Blair is not actually violating HIPAA. HIPAA only applies to medical providers (doctors, nurses, hospital admin, etc.) However, Blair is under the rules of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and basic legal policies like "you can't create hostile work environment". I have to wonder about the fact that Blair and Wonder are both kind of content creators under UA-cam--so, in a way, they're employees of UA-cam (technically contractors but they work in the same environment)--so there might be the argument of Blair creating a hostile work environment--a legal term that means "when the words and actions of a supervisor, manager or coworker negatively or severely impacts another employee’s ability to complete their work". And you could probably make a good argument that Blair, acting as the supervisor for Oz and Wonder, was creating a HWE due to how she manipulated them into contacts. Those contracts could especially get her into trouble--sure, they signed a contract. But there's actually multiple clauses in contract law that allow people to void an otherwise solid contract. Malfeasance is when one party in a contract is actively trying to sabotage the other; signing under a mistake, misrepresentation, or fraud; signing under undue influence or duress (Oz mentioned once that he actually has trauma relating to a family member having credit/money issues, and Blair used that to get him to sign things); and, most importantly here, if one or more terms are deemed "unconscionable". I think a lawyer could make a very good argument that the clauses in these contracts are unconscionable.
But again, I am not a lawyer and the law I work in is only tangentially related. Don't take these as predictions of what the lawyers will do or as legal advice. All I do know is that, unfortunately, Blair did not violate HIPAA.

As an employer, Blair actually is subject to certain parts of HIPAA (I work in health policy). However, also not a lawyer, so I can't say if it applies in these specific instances described. But most likely not.

What you said was spot on... I didn't know about any of the other stuff she mentioned in that illuminaughti exposed video. It was her trying to take down everyone in that video in the guise of an apology that made me see her for what she was.
I remember being so confused because I was such an iiluminaughii, sad milk, and cruel world happy mind fan and it was wild to see how much I didn’t realize Blair would fuck other people over. I saw the iiluminaughtii exposed video and was so confused as to what was going on because I never really used twitter, but when I realized she started talking about wonder’s suicide note all I could think was what the fuck.
@teamarie123 I was super confused too. I don't have Twitter so I had no idea what was even going on. I also didn't know about what went happend with Cruel World Happy Mind. The fact that she talked about Wonders mental health is what really made me distrust her. I'm a therapist and when she mentioned his mental health I thought it was beyond inappropriate personally but especially as his former employer. It also made me think how interesting it was that her therapist decided to end services with her but continue with Wonder. Especially considering she was a patient first, according to her video. Her tears at the end towards Oz also felt forced. I did a deep dive after that video and then unsubscribed.
I can understand the sponsorship thing a bit. There are some creators like Philip Defranco who post 4 days a week, and his videos have 1-2 sponsors. But he's also a News channel and has a team of editors and researchers that he has to pay.
I hadn't even really thought about the amount of time that Blaire spent talking about sponsors in her videos. It had just kinda become normal for her. I had watched her since her reddit days so I guess it was kind of like putting a frog in water and slowly turning up the heat. I just kinda got used to it

Just want to clarify for the general public bc this is misunderstood by many: you can only be guilty of a HIPPA violation if you are a Healthcare provider who has access to someone’s private health information as a provider, and shares that information without their written consent.
If an individual has knowledge of your personal health information and shares it- is it a violation of your privacy and trust? Absolutely! But it is not a HIPPA violation. A journalist asking a politician their vaccine status is not a HIPPA violation. As convenient as that deflection/distraction tactic was, it caused a lot of people to have a skewed understanding of HIPPA. Now, if a healthcare provider told an inquiring journalist the vaccine status of a certain politician and they had that information in their records, or because they were present when they came in for treatment- that would be a HIPPA violation, absolutely. Also, if someone was privy to another’s medical information bc they were in the waiting room at the same time and then they turned around and shared that information- the violation would still be against the clinic/provider and not against the individual that shared the info. I do healthcare design and it is a huge consideration, especially in waiting rooms and ER triage locations, that spaces are designed in a way that patient communication cannot be easily overheard.
But even without the HIPPA violation, Blair is a manipulative, duplicitous, and despicable individual who only has herself to blame for the state of her reputation and career. Her own avarice is the reason for her downfall. Good riddance!
I agree that it’s definitely not a HIPAA violation. However, the NDAs that “all employees are required to sign” do have a bit in them about not disclosing employee PII, which it seems like Blair violated. And the NDAs are mutually binding. That will be interesting to see play out in court
yeah it's important for people to know what is and isn't hipaa, but i do think what she did is still illegal as she was their employer, i don't remember the exact laws regarding this tho so it may not be applicable to this situation

I think it was because she did a lot of Anti MLM content back in the day and because really popular off it. I know Robert at least is very Anti MLM so I think he either probably watched her or knew of her and that’s why she was on their podcast
I’ve never seen anybody find it but early on in her Reddit content, before she had the little triangle head persona and did video essays, I have such a vivid memory of her using the t-slur when addressing people asking if she was trans because of her deep voice. I don’t remember which video it was in or if the video is even still up, but it’s something I remember so vividly and would bet money on existing/having existed. I wish somebody else remembered this.
I think i watched a video about her that referenced that clip, i don't remember which video it was but it had a part (or it might have been the whole video idr) about like the evolution of her content from before even the reddit phase up till now and i remember it mentioned how she used to use slurs and had a few clips, take everything i've said here with a grain of salt tho because i watched that video a while ago and my memory of it is very hazy. Also i do remember the video mentioning how she deleted a ton of her older more problematic content so it's likely that the video you watched has been deleted
i really appreciate all the work that you put into these videos and it really does show. i also like how your videos never seem over dramatized. so many other commentary youtube channels make situations seem over the top but your videos remind me that at the end of the day this isn’t some big breaking story, these are people

The funny thing about the editing mistake, that was the 2nd time that it happened. The 1st was the Kenya Cult video, sound cuts out for the last four minutes. Her comments were still on at the time and some of her supporters informed her, but Blair doesn't care about quality it's a content farm after all. BTW, the Kenya Cult video is still up too.
this is one of my newer comfort channels right now. i really do respect the work and research u put in these videos and scripts especially with the new day job taking up more time now. I think its pretty inspiring to see the dedication u have for your craft. Most of my comfort UA-camrs usually post once every 4+ months so taking your time isn't an issue with me personally lol ✨

It does, I thought it might have extended to business owners as well that’s my issue. The term PII and PHI itself is tied to HIPAA often that’s all
Blair was Wonder's _employer._ Your employer is not allowed to go around telling people your medical information. I'm pretty sure that's in HIPAA, but it could just be part of standard employment law.

Unfortunately, Blaire releasing information about the mental health of someone else isn’t a HIPAA violation - it’s scummy and wrong, but she isn’t a healthcare provider or someone who works for a healthcare office and isn’t bound by HIPAA.
Yeah something about Blair’s video on sundown towns just didn’t sit fully right with me and I had a hard time watching any of her content going forward

Really interested to watch your video on imalex as not only are the circumstances horrific, but I think there’s so much commentary points that could be discussed. To expose dark parts of a relationship to highlight abuse, for the internet, is not only incredibly courageous but such a relatively new phenomenon. For example, this tangent with the inabber accusations and how it’s been taken in comparison to the imalexx claims. It feels like the situation has blown up and in a way, it’s great as more women have felt comfortable to come forward and share their stories but there so many questions around the ethics of these exposure as well as why they happen (perhaps a lack of trust in accountability in the justice system). What will be the legal and “social” consequences for them? I do feel a lot of empathy for inabber, as there’s certain room for ALOT of nuance there, but more than anything, i really feel for Alice and the other victims of Alex.
