Wow this is amazing. I hope the prices come down so more people can afford it and we can reduce waste and save money on bills.

OMG!! About time Mike and his ingeniousness get some kind of recognition!! I've been following the earthship movement for over 10 years now, and that man has had to go to hell and back with the courts to fight all the "laws and regulations"!!! I've always believed that as unorthadox as these houses seem to many, they absolutely can and will hopefully help save our planet!! God Bless him and his whole team!!!

    Nice 👍
There is a museum in Chandigarh, India, made with all recycle materials ♻️
    This reminds me of that.

I love and admire these homes. Years ago when I lived in NM I wanted one of these places.

I remember I saw footage of an Earth ship house before. I was charmed by it awhile back mostly the glass bottle aspect however if I recall correctly some v-blogs mentioned that the home can smell like mold with all the plants.

Isn't there a whole 'neighborhood' like this there?

Yes ,I think so ! Just not houses close together .

Yes ... The houses featured here are in that neighborhood near Taos, New Mexico. One development is called 'Greater Earth.'

You can stay overnight in a Taos, NM earthship in the Greater World community that Mike Reynolds created. You could even stay in the Atlantis that is featured in this video.

I live in a cave house in the south of Spain. One metre thick stone walls and a two metre thick stone roof. I don't need any air-con in summer as it stays cool even if it's 43 C (109.4 F) outside. In winter I use one small gas heater in the evenings, sometimes. I used to use a wood stove but I have COPD, My fuel costs for heating are about €60-80/p.a. I also have solar house lighting and a solar freezer to reduce electricity costs to a minimum. And I grow my own veg. Not bad for someone who is nearly 70. The place cost me €20K. Yep, you read that right.

8billion "green house gas emitters" something needs to be done to lower these absurd numbers

Its laborr intensive. Not everyone can have this much land.

    • @Valerie_Pangea
      @Valerie_Pangea 6 днів тому

Future Earthship technology will include 3-D printing, which is less labor-intensive.

Okay and how much does it cost to build? And how much is the property cost that it is built on? And where do they allow this type of home to be built? Because I am sure the little suburb communities are not going to allow these to be built on each property, especially in HOA communities.

Watch videos on Earthships for costs, feasibility, etc. And indeed, they are definitely not welcome in most neighborhoods.

price of property aside, there is simply not enough space to house everyone and still have space for wildlife etc

Only certain Counties in New Mexico will approve permits for non-traditional construction. There are about a hundred earthships in and around Taos but harder to find near Albuquerque where building codes are much stricter. Many earthships are built 'off grid' outside of a County building inspector and rules. HOA's are rare in rural areas where rural land costs $10,000+ an acre but has no utilities or paved roads. The cost depends on size, materials and labor costs. These are not city dwellings but popular elsewhere in the State, especially Northern NM.

Earthships can be built using newer technology to meet building codes. It costs $300 per square foot right now but will go down with 3-D printing.

So many HOA communities really suck when it comes to the environment. I've read so many horror stories about them blocking solar panels, biodiverse landscapes, etc. That said, you don't have to go full Earthship to integrate many of these strategies into any home. Passive solar, good insulation, rainwater collection for the garden, and a mudroom can help out.

World population is about 8B. Let’s say we can have 8 people in a house. We would need 1B houses. Building these amount of houses looks unrealistic.

Get rid of all this BS on Construction Permitting then people can build things like this, all the stupid construction permitting and legislation is preventing people from building their own home

If everyone lived like this, we'd run out of space real quick. It may be a lot less glamorous, but there's nothing more environmentally friendly than living in a dense city. If only we did cities right...

You know what also reduces emissions? Getting third world countries to stop polluting.

    • @adelaferreira4575

Third world countries are not the big polluters,we are the biggest polluter thanks to our love for cars ,stop blaming others !

    • @Randoverse

@adelaferreira4575 25% of Ocean garbage is fliflops from third world countries alone. China doubles the US in pollution. I'm pretty sure the US is up there, but we actually have plans to reduce. There is a big difference.

    • @kansasgoldilocks

@@kansasgoldilocks You do know that there is a Boreal Forest that emits more than us combined every year just by itself? We don't really make much a difference.
