Courtney the pushing back extra is the most important thing that most people don’t do. If you think it’s back far enough push it back another 10 feet if you got the room you will thank yourself later, you can never give yourself too much room for the snow.
New 1023e owner here. Thank you for your videos as they have been helpful. Do you think you could do a daily machine check/grease video for us newbies? I understand the 50 hr, 100 and 200, but a daily walkthrough video and how often to grease and where would be extremely helpful. Thanks again!
Wow never knew about the float function, I had pretty much given up on using my bucket to clear snow. After watching this, I just went out and cleared a few inches of slush off of the drive that our snowblower would've had a heck of a time with!
Here in southern Oklahoma we seldom get much snow, like maybe an inch or two. However, that's usually enough to shut all the schools down, close the courthouse,& send everybody running to Walmart to stock up for the big blizzard! LoL seriously tho, our issue is ice. An inch of snow will pack down to a quarter inch of ice, but it usually melts off in a day or two. Great video, having never had any experience with snow removal equipment, I learned a lot!
I live in Arkansas and we don't get much snow in Winter, but I have the tools to do it if needed and have my tractors ready to take on the task of cleaning my driveways and that of my other family members who live close by. It is important to keep the equipment ready to work in the Winter weather. In Michigan where most of my family live they need snow removal equipment to clean their driveways and yard of snow and when I was in school up there the city had equipment to clean the streets and sidewalks so the children could get to and from school.
Excellent tips and reminders! I use a battery tender all winter as it may be weeks between storms. I also use a block heater that I can turn on remotely (already plugged in) using a wifi outlet adapter. You were aces today! Thanks!
With a battery tender being used even in warm weather if the mower isnt being used for a few weeks it's good to have it on since theyll shut off only when needed. Fuel stabilizer is important also like stabile or sea foam
I’m looking forward to using my b2601 for 1st season this winter. Thanks for the great videos. You mentioned the rubber chains and I see more info in the comments. Could you talk about chains generally? Front v rear v both? Pluses and minuses? Types? Tips, tricks and traps? I purchased the tractor with snow removal being #1 on the list but am getting worried since my driveway has one curved section set on a hill. I’ve seen some videos of tractors going sideways. That would be a disaster in my situation. Thank you!!!
Having a battery maintainer will help the battery stay at peak power , a block heater for liquid cooled unit will help with starting if parked out doors or perhaps a bit warmer if indoors heated space or not , true is its heated area the block heater is more for quick warm up of the engine rather than assisting starting.
I'm actually looking forward to using the hla snowpusher I got last year from you I've already adjusted everything and I am currently adding a rubber edge onto my back drag
Float is only good for flat straight stretches if you are dealing with curves float takes away your steering ability and the risk for hitting a parked object goes up and the same for back dragging in float
Really looking forward to using the new HLA snow pusher I got from you (thank you) on my BX. In this video You mentioned rubber chains which sounds like it would be more gentle to our pavers then chains. Can you give me a lead for finding these? Thanks Courtney.
What's going on? Hope it works well for you. Here's two links to those Terra Grip Rubber Tire Chains. I've heard good things, but never used them myself. First link is a link to buy on Amazon. Make sure you select the right size for your tractor. amzn.to/342fIQN The second link is from an online John Deere retailer. @@GoodWorksTractors - ha! I was in the process sending you an email, but this works better! Looking forward to meeting you in person and getting prep for winter.
We have a brand new kubota... I still have our John Deere.... I haven’t even sat on the tractor... and I am trying to make myself get happy by watching your videos....my husband and I are still reeling from the past year of information,... and I appreciate your videos a great deal
Good video Courtney... the heated seat cover was a surprise, but need the single 12V outlet for my super bright LED pancake light. I'll just bundle up again like last winter, little bit of winters fresh air is good for us Michiganders.
I chain the rear of my JD 3520, and use a 3-pt grader blade. I use the front bucket for cleanup. A couple of tips: use a battery warmer on a thermostat, a head bolt heater to pre-warm the block, and unlock the brake pedals to make steering easier.
Going slow with a loader or a snow blower is a good idea. With a trip type blade or a rear blade you want to get the snow rolling. If you are moving fast enough to do that rops up and belt on. When I use my loaded on my drive (mostly gravel) I have edge tamers on.
Hello From Northern Ontario, Canada! Great Video! Will you be putting a snow pusher on the 4066R? If so what size? I just bought a Kubota L4060 and debating about getting a snow pusher, just unsure what model of HLA Snow Pusher I should be looking at for my size of tractor.
Hi Zach, thanks so much@ I got an 84" 1800 Series pusher for mine. I probably should have gone with a 2500 Series, but I wanted to showcase the 1800 Series this winter. Either Series is a viable option for you on your L4060 as well. Probably go a little narrower with the 2500 Series vs the 1800 Series.
Good Works Tractors thanks for the reply! I was trying to research the 1800 and 2500 series online but wasn’t coming up with much info. I think you just helped make my decision... If only you weren’t so far away lol
Great videos. I own a John Deere 4100 with industrial tires and have found out the hard way. Chain only the rears but Never chain the front tires. Front end gears and shafts need to slip a bit. Very expensive to repair front end axle parts and they will break if chained. After 2 repairs to hubs, the dealer here in Sandpoint pointed out that if I chained up the front end, I will continue paying him to fix it.
Hi! A rookie here. I've had my 1023e for two years but have barely used it in the winter. We'd like to spend more time at our summer cottage - in the winter. On the 1023e I have the front bucket and a 3 point receiver hitch. I have a 100 yard gravel driveway. We get a lot of snow at Kenora, Ontario - about 7 1/2 hours drive north of you. Would you prefer a back blade with the bucket or would you prefer a front blade? I can imagine advantages to either set up. Thanks! I love your videos.
I wouldn't want to use a bucket at all. Either a loader mounted blade or snow pusher along with a rear blade or perhaps a snowblower on the back, plow or pusher on the front.
I spent 15 years in eastern colorado with a rear mounted snow blower.... worked like a dream. Did 1/4 Mike drive often with 100 yard by 4 foot or more drifts

Agreed. It'll seem ridiculous after the first couple plows, but you'll be real happy half way through winter.

good vid Courtney! just this morning, I put my mower deck away in the barn and moved my HLA pusher into a conveinant spot
That time of year! I am still mowing as I use a bagger to suck up leaves too, but won't be long for me!
I actually am getting chains for the rear tire on my 1025r after watching this video, and they cost almost $100, but will be awesome when I need them😊

Good Works Tractors excellent, thank you Courtney!
Very welcome
Hi , what is best for gravel driveway ?
Something with skid shoes so that your cutting edge is above the plowing surface.
Will that yellow shaft blower work on my deere 420 with front PTO
It won't. Specifically for a 4100, 4010, and two other models of compact tractors.
10 people live in Florida
3rd !
Still made the podium :)

I doubt jd can handle snow!!! Kubota will ! Lol
Is that BX in the video the one that Tim used in his comparison videos?
Good eye, sure is!
Do all loaders have a float function?
I probably couldn't say all, but most modern compact tractors that I know of have this feature.

Yes, probably go a little faster with the plow, but still remain under control. Common sense will always prevail :)
Excellent video. New tractor owners listen up -- every point made in this video is a good, valid piece of advice for snow removal, storage, etc.
Thanks for watching Gary!
