Thank you. I'm doing my first tie dye today. Bought a top online. On arrival, I thought it looked a bit bland. So then bought a tie dye kit to jazz it up a bit. 👍🏻it's now in soak, as per your lovely instructions.
@@KERNOWFISHGRAN we have a saying - don't cry until it's dry. You won't get really bright, defined colours, but you could get beautiful results. I've done 50/50 cotton/polyester hoodies and they've worked out well. You don't know for sure until you try.
Hey! Can this solution be used for multiple garments or should a new batch be made for each one? For example I want to tie dye 5 shirts, will the effects of the solution lessen if I use it for all 5? Thank you!
You can keep stuffing them in until it's full! I keep the same batch until it's low - just give it a good stir before adding anything. Then I top it up with fresh soda ash solution.
That's strange - in 16 years I've NEVER had that happen. Are you sure you have soda ash powder, and not something else? It should be labelled as sodium carbonate.
@@DyeDIYyeah no that was my bad I was using Soda Alginate SH which was all the Art store had in the dye section so I assumed soda ash was just short for that. Took me a good hour or so of frustrated struggling to finally google the difference 😂😂😂
@@asiawhiteacre3003 oh no, that sucks! But it's also very funny 🤣 If you have any alginate left you can use it as dye thickener. You only need a little bit, as you found out.
Really nice, just did it!
Awesome, hope you have a great time dyeing it!

Thank you! Hope it turns out beautifully.
I'm not holding out much hope because it is not 100% cotton

@@DyeDIY thank you!!
Hi Kelly, do you know if I can soak already tie-dyed items in soda ash? Or will that not do anything?
Hi! It won't set the dye any further, or make it brighter, if that's what you mean.
But you can soak it again then overdye it.
@@DyeDIY thanks so much!

Hello! I just tried to make this and my solution was an insanely thick sludge… what am I doing wrong?
