    One of the best videos I've watched. Makes so much sense

    That's good, not only a convenient way to ascend with a friction saver but also to decrease the weight at your tie in point by talking weight off the base anchor.

    I been trying to figure out how to do a retrievable srs that isn't tied at the base

    instead of the ring I personally use a screwgate, like this its midline attachable =) also i often install it under my anchor point that makes it retrieve easy and in case the anchor point fails you might have a second point that catches you =)

      We wouldn't recommend a Screwgate for life support instance in Tree Care. However, different industries are given the ok to use screw gates.

      I was going to say the same thing, but using a Notch Quickie instead of a screwgate.

    I’m just a beginner Home tree climber and trimmer but couldn’t you use two carabiners instead of one ring and not even install it on your line till you get up into the tree ?

    • @boomupengineering

      I'd say you can do whatever you want, but if you want to retrieve from the ground, you'll need a way to make one end of your sling be caught by whatever you pull up to retrieve the sling. Like a friction saver has a big ring and a small ring. Your knot, throw weight, retrieval ball etc. will go thru the big ring and get caught on the small ring, allowing you to pull the friction saver from the tree union. If you use two carabiners, you need a way to get your retrieval object to catch on the second carabiner. I'll think about creative ways to accomplish that. "Chicken Rings". You might be able to clip on a small carabiner to catch on the second big carabiner when retrieving?

    • @BartlettArboristSupply
      @BartlettArboristSupply  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes and no. If a canopy anchor was not desired, you could just run the rope through carabiners but you would have a redirect, and it may not be retrievable. The ring is necessary here, so that the blocking knot does not pass through, if a carabiner was used instead of the ring, it may pass through.
