Way to think outside the sewing box! I've seen this done for blankets, pillows and footstool covers but never for a book or JJ cover! It looks amazing. Can't wait to see the finished JJ!
I have a seam ripper that I use which is designed for this style of slashing. If you don't want to wash it you can keep rubbing the fibres together to keep fraying the materials. The rougher you are with it the more colours come to the fore. A lovely grungy technique for adding texture. TFS
Not too far off there.. It could have been widely used in the 90s because if I remember what I read correctly it was resurfaced in the 80s by a gentleman. Thanks for swinging by Bel! ❤️ XoXo

Hi April, thank you for sharing this technique. I must admit I've not seen this before. It turned out really good, I really liked how different it looked, though I didn't think much of it before you washed It!! I should have had faith in you, it looked a right mess then you washed it and it looked like a gorgeous piece of messy art !! This is definitely something I will keep in mind for when I have lots of scraps, it'll make a really brilliant journal cover. Thank you from one odd bird to another!! Rae ❤🐦🐥🕊🦅🦉🐣🐤🐓🐔🦃❤
Lol you're so right Rae! It definitely didn't come to love until it was washed and then it go true character once it was pared down a bit! Totally agree with you on that!! I hope you do give it a try some time down line!! Thank you fellow Odd bird! 😉😉❤️XoXo
You mentioned having the cloth on the bias, which cloth, the base, (yours wasn't on the bias that I could see), or the pieces you put on top, which seemed to be placed to your liking. Sorry, I love this effect, but am a bit confused. Isn't "the bias", on the diagonal? Thank you for a great video with a fantastic result.👍👍👍
Hey there! Op! I guess you're right. What I should have said was to place them in the opposite direction of how you plan to slash. Because that's what I meant lol. Thanks for asking for clarification and for swinging by to watch. ❤️

Hi there Marcy! Sorry I'm so behind 9n comments and such lol you may have made yours already. When I washed/dried mine I definitely did it by itself. On the small cycle is fine. Hope this helps! Thank you! ❤️ XoXo
Really cool! Would it work as a piece of clothing, or is it mostly for artistic purposes? I wonder if it would be a concern to wash. Beautiful texture nevertheless.
Hey Hanna! Well I reckon maybe you could do pants or something in this fashion, I'm not sure but that's a good question! And also, in this video I did show the washed the piece when I was done. Basically it makes it get that crazy fun shabby look. Thanks for swinging by! XoXo ❤️
Slip the project onto a piece of cardboard so that in transit it does not shift. If you are comfortable with the technique, frays like that I get rid of by flamung them off over the gass stove. Once the flame gets to the denser part (ue unfrayed area. you can blow it out quickly. Do it in section unde=til you get comfortable with ut.
I don't get it, hundreds of loose threads, AAIIIEEEOYYYYYOOOOO, it would make me crazy. And now what do you plan to do with this hot mess? Just curious after you spent all of that time on it.
