One concept I love about Demon Slayer is the contrast between humans and demons. Notice how Kagaya and his family didn’t hesitate to sacrifice their lives to take down Muzan? Or how Rengoku didn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself to save the lives of other human beings. That’s the difference between demons and humans in this show. Although Muzan is undoubtedly the strongest being in the whole show’s universe for ages, he is still a coward that hides behind his army of demons for the fear of dying. He’s had only one close call in hundreds of years of existence yet still dwells on that instance to this very day. It shows how he is truly the most cowardice character in the whole anime as he cowers in fear of death being pretty much immortal while the demon slayers (humans) risk their fragile mortal lives to help other humans even if it means death. The amount of danger they put themselves through takes massive courage while these “impeccable” beings known as demons run in fear for their lives when they know they will die. That’s the beauty of this show. The humans embrace death as it is a natural thing that occurs while demons cling onto life and will do anything to avoid death.

I mean, Muzan is almost God like and was able to survive for about a thousand years. The game of life is to survive for as long as possible. Don't forget most demons were once humans often mistreated and disregarded by society, poor, sick and fragile. Something Tanjiro understood very well. Sure there is novelty on what the demon slayers did, but I cannot help and think that Muzan was a punishment from the gods, or perhaps a challenge for humans to overcome.

Plus, akaza's compass detects a person's moves based on their fighting spirit. thats y he was easily able to counter rengoku's moves. The higher the fight spirit, the easier it is for Akaza to see through moves

That all said, while, yes, Douma is overwhelmingly stronger, Akaza could have refined himself as a demon further than Douma and from that point we can only speculate on what heights he would have reached.

Akaza presence shook me, he was the first demon in the series to use his blood demon art as a fighting style.
I like how this series is written. Tanjiro's words to Akaza, calling him a coward because the demon slayers can only fight demons on their turf, being night time. Granted, like vampires, they die in the sun, but you have to hand it to people willing to risk everything fighting in enemy territory.
It was when the bells from Homura started playing that broke me. I was only teary up until I heard those bells, then they started flowing.
Imagine if Rengoku developed his mark and was able to turn his blade red- the outcome may have been different. It would’ve wounded Akaza more and slower his regeneration, giving the opportunity to make a strike if the opportunity permits.

No mahn No hashira can beat the top upper threes in a solo fight. It took the team effort of 4 members that is 3 hashira and genya to defeat kokishibo even with that kokushibo had chance to regenerate his head and defeat them but he wished to die there

The best part of Demon Slayer battles is the human struggle against mortality versus the demon's fear and detest of death. Every battle is just poetic with that frame. Rengoku fighting harder the closer he is to dying versus Akaza's total terror and fleeing from the sun.
To think this was only the beginning. Now we're at the point where all the Hashira and all the Upper Ranks are going to be fighting. Next Arc is going to be filled with fights like this.

Rengoku’s death was mourned and his memory honored as though he fell achieving victory. Akaza’s victory was met with as much scorn and derision as if he had been defeated. Amazing contrasts.

An upper rank suddenly appeared. Not only an upper rank but also an upper rank 3. The studio did Rengoku dirty here putting an end to him knowing they would need a lot of budget for the animation if they keep Rengoku alive.

Surely Rengoku is a beast. Fire Hashiras should be the most powerful Hashiras in the anime. If Rengoku had his mark, he would kill Akaza surely. Even Rengoku was training himself but the other hand there was an one thousand year demon, aha. So noone can say Akaza is stronger than Rengoku, just Rengoku wasn't ready for that time. Maybe 5-6 six months would be enough for Rengoku to train himself.

No mark, no prep time, and the first one to fight and encounter an uppermoon and it's moon 3 while tengen tanjiro inosuke and zenitsu had a hard time keeping up with 6th, tanjiro, genya and kanroji had a hard time trying to defeath 4th and mui almost losing to 5th but their mark saved them. As much as i love rengoku, it's clear, that Akaza had plenty of power to spare, and could have easily killed him at any point without a sweat...
The fact he grew his arms back with a sword halfway through his neck - proves it.
When weakened, their regeneration slows down. His - didn't slow down a bit, meaning he still had plenty of strength to spare, and he was so "close to dying" simply cause he wanted to turn rengoku to demon so badly...
Fun fact. The name of Rengoku's ninth technique is Purgatory, not Rengoku itself

Akaza😭😭😭😭 He is was a broken soul by human beings, there is no sad story in this entire anime than Akaza him self.Rengoku well he is ok.
This fight and Tengen's are absolutely amazing. Season 4 clearly had worse animation (a bit sloppier, they were trying to hide some parts). I hope we're going to get something even better than this or at least just as good for the last arc and not a complete flop animation wise like Jujutsu Kaisen !
