Looking good, nice having 10 plys. I had a few 4 door blazers, I liked em quite alot, could sleep in the back comfortably but the astro safari space is much more comfortable. I snowboarded for about ten years, between that and construction it's pretty hard on the body, I don't board anymore either. Wintering in southern bc isn't bad not alot of snow most years
Thanks! agreed, with the weight of the Astro they should have been spec'd with LT tires from factory at the very least. The front end definitely feels more proper. That's awesome! the Blazers and Jimmy's are solid vehicles, a good friend had a old body style early 90s jimmy in high school and I still want one to this day haha Very true, I thought the snow was soft!? 😅 but when its frozen its like concrete, and when you are strapped in at 50 km/h it makes things interesting.. then like you say the trades are hard enough on the body, getting hurt has big physical and monetary consequences... That's what I hear and what I remember, some areas can get a ton but then others its mostly rain and it hovers around freezing. Then there is lower Vancouver island where its +8 and you get a dusting or 2 that's cleared up by noon🤣I just don't know if I can handle a few solid months of -20 and lower but we will see.
@@alwaysgoodinthewoods Like concrete for sure, some years we had lots of powder but other years it was solid ice the whole time, I had a buddy that had speedo app on his phone just before we quite riding, we speed tested our selves on one run at 98km/h A few months of -20 is a lot to put up with lol, the island is great though
Thanks! That's awesome, BC winters can go from mild to wild depending where at 😅We are getting a real winter this year in Ont so anywhere near the great lakes is just getting slammed, so my usual spots are changing. Winter is tricky because of the on street parking restrictions for sure, I have about 5 spots that I rotate that are low priority lots and in this weather there is pretty much no one out that will bother you with knocks and whatnot. Really depends on where you are, in southern on its nearly a state of emergency right now so no one is concerned yet 😆
Nice update. I think it was your video of the diesel heater install that helped me. I barely smell diesel fuel and I have the tank indoors behind the driver seat. It is mounted on a small piece of plywood and swings forward when filling. I sealed the cap... they say it needs to vent ... ... but I simply loosen and tighten the cap every once in a while while parked with doors open etc. I'll have to look at the cap more closely .. I put something on the inside to stop the splash and I fill it to no higher than an inch below the fill neck at the base of the neck. I wonder if you might slide in a sheet of foil insulation between the tank and the metal door ... also .. I didn't see how you put it in the door. I have the three pice rear doors and love it... back to the video,.,. unpausing .. pat
Thanks for the comment and glad I may have helped. You are right about the cap and I have heard of people sealing it and "manually venting" the tank like that, doesn't seem to cause issues with the pump fuel feed so that is defeintiyl an option. My first tank that came with my "vevor" kit was really bad quality and the vent actually fell out completely and was rolling around in the tank, so fuel was just sloshing right out of the open hole 😅 so I fixed that, and then a month later the threads just completely warped on the cap and it would no longer tighten. Long story short I bought a new kit and this new tank is much better but I still get the very odd wiff of diesel. I definitely have a nose for it though, which is surprising because at one point I was completely desensitized to the smell of diesel from working with it all day. That's a good idea with the insulation, would keep the sun from baking the tank and put it better in position. To get the tank in I had to slice the door structure just the center part at the top, then bend it out towards you and then push the top inward, then I put rag on the metal and with a bit of pushing the tank slid right in. I have video of it buried somewhere that i will definitely post when i find it. its only a 10L tank fyi I don't think a 15L with fit without some fancy modifications but I never did try to confirm. Thanks for the again for the comment and stopping in!
Good idea, window putty would work well, butyl rubber, any good quality silicone really, the electrical conduit is just to add something for the sealant to stick to really. Yep works perfectly, could probably get away with one hole but the second keeps the surface tension from forming. I actually have video during a heavy rain and you can see the water just streaming out behind the bumper, I'll post it as a short when I find the footage.
For the back windows? could definitely be done but that is more of a project than its worth for me 😅 If going through the trouble of running the electrical/washer lines from front to back I would just convert to the dutch doors, but I kinda like the simplicity of the barn doors. Since adding the interior latch I go in and out of the back left one quite frequently... would be more of a pain with the dutch doors... I've got a rear facing camera but it does get covered in road dust eventually..
All of the interesting history aside, that cup "holds" quite a few memories.. plus some poor cuban child worked hard on it. Cool with Cobain though? why would I carry around a junkie who sucked at guitar??

Back in the 90s at work, we had a Astro van to use for a job. Those vehicles were damn good. I wish they made them again.

Great video. I full time in a truck camper. Did two winters in BC. This year I'm doing Ontario. You should do a video of places you sleep at.

Are the drilled holes in the back to drain the water out work? I also use putty .. the type you put in behind the windows..

Add your own wipers?

Why whould you carry sadist and psychopat Che in your van?
