Thank you, MJ! It's always hard to ride the fine line of being honest but not coming across as complaining. We are so fortunate to travel and see Mexico the way we do:)
I appreciate your honest opinion about Tulum and the exaggerated prices. Good to know for those that have not been there yet. Like most places that depend so much on tourists, you're going to have scams and price gauging. The fact that you have evolved so much so as to perceive or view those things like a Mexican, to paraphrase what you said, is really pretty mature and shows how successfully you have assimilated to Mexico...very cool gueritos!
As an American visiting the Rivera Maya I found Tulum n Chichen Itza wonderful places to visit with a tour group because I was able to learn so much. My hubs n I have been to both 4x's n saw n learned something different each time. The cultural things we have learned n seen r priceless. Each trip we make to this area has made Jim n I love Mexico more n more.
We have had a home in Tulum for two years and plan to retire there. I think you just scratched the surface of Tulum. Did you try eating in nearby Chemuyil or Akumal? That's where the locals live and eat and that's where you'll find incredible food at a much cheaper price. I've never seen potato chips for $9 USD anywhere? Were you on a resort? Don't take this the wrong way...but I'm glad you did not really endorse Tulum but seemed to like Cancun and Playa more. Perhaps fewer people will go there and we can keep the place to ourselves! :)
Great video! I agree with your mixed review of Tulum.. I recently lived in Playa Del Carmen for four years and always found the hotel zone of Tulum a bit over-priced and the ruins were o.k. (great location), but for me the 'stars' in that area are the cenotes and the nearby ruins of Coba which are worth a visit. If you ever get the chance, take the highway from Tulum to Merida, the cenotes along that road are some of the best for sure. I'm looking forward to your next videos as well, hopefully you'll make it to Palenque!
Yeah I agree with all you guys said. Tulum is very touristy and that makes it very expensive. I personally haven't gone to Cancún or the surrounding areas because I know how expensive it can be. I love the fact that you prefer getting personal with the country you're in, getting to know towns and people and not closing yourselves in a luxury hotel. I also love that, I've only been to a beach in Oaxaca and some in Veracruz and they both have been amazing. Both were road trips so I got to know the towns that I passed by, lots of interesting people and beautiful landscapes. Keep up the good content!
Hi Kennons! You both have made an excellent video in Tulum, and laud you for planning a future visit in Merida and adjacent Mayan ruins. I hope to make that journey again, after I move to CDMX, God-willing.
I have only been in Cancun twice. The first time went to Chichen Itza, the second time to Tulum. And I can guarantee that the experience in Chichen Itza is way better
Hello guys. Its a good thing being honest. Sometimes things dont go the way want. But just keep in mind that you have a lot of friends out here and we appreciate your effort to do all this daily videos about mexico. We love you.
Thank you so much for your nice words! It is disappointing to us since we hardly ever have anything negative to say at all! But we indeed want to be completely honest!
We are trying to plan a trip there soon! We have so many places that we are wanting to go to in 2018! By the end of 2018 I want to have been to at least 80% of all of the places that people recommend!
I enjoyed a lot Tulum when I visited 7 years ago. I arrived at 6:30 am and I was the first to be there that day. I joined a couple of Europeans and we had a good time without any more tourists.
So I’m rethinking my plan to stay there in Tulum. I was going to stay there the majority of my trip as I am bouncing around to PDC Cancun and some other locations. Glad you are there before me. I will be staying in the Center though as I’m a budget traveler. Staying at Mango Hotel not the big Luxery resorts. I have watched videos where the center is the best place to go for more of a local feel and a bit cheaper too.
Look, I'm sure you will love it! We only had a few hours to explore and didn't want to pay the outrageous cab fare to get into town! I did hear theres lots of construction going on in the downtown area, so I'm curious to know what its like there-you will have to keep us posted!
Looks like fun!! If you have time check out *zona el rey* right in front of playa delfines :) it's so peaceful you can walk and check out the ruins all alone I think the entrance was 5 pesos
I feel the same about Tulum. I’ve been twice but bc I was taken there but seeing it once was enough for me. The only reason I’d go back is bc out on the main road there was this awesome taco place owned by Mayas. They were a bit expensive though but so yummy.
I learn that paying a tour is better than go by myself. I know it is more expensive but it is much better because they know where to go and what to do to make you try interesting
I gree with you. I like Tulum but it wasn't what I expected. The snorkeling at the reef is the best memory I have from there. I recommend you to visit Cobá, go to the top of the piramid, the veiw is amazing!!! Also in Mérida visit as much as arquelogic zones and cenotes as you can! Chichen Itzá is great but do a guied tour.
I agree with you, Tulum was a fortress with the sea on its back, not much to go from there. I visited it many years ago, when there wasn't as many ropes blocking the way and there was a lot more vegetation.
Kinetic Kennons It was a busy port, but the ruins were build to protect and as a lighthouse I think. I remember when you didn't need to pay to get in Xel-Ha. Any way if you visit Mérida I would suggest doing the following: - Stay in a hotel near Paseo Montejo and Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande). - Skip summer and try to visit it during the months of September to May. Summer has the highest levels of humidity (They call it La Blanca Merida because of the use of lime powder on the walls to prevent mould) - Take a ride on a calesa to decide what to do in the city. You can find them parked out of San Idelfonso Cathedral, the first Cathedral of the Americas. Bring your 360 camera take some shoots of Paseo Montejo and the many old residences on it. - Visit Los Almendros, one of the oldest Restaurantes in Merida, arrive with an empty stomach, and try everything from the Yucateca cuisine. - Get local, wear huipil Yucateco and guayabera and head to Santiago plaza for a night of Danzón. - Visit the new Gran Museo del Mundo Maya - Shop at the markets of Merida or Lucas de Galves - Find a good spot and enjoy the shows at plaza de la Independencia or Santa Lucia. Take a selfie on one of the confident benches Tu y Yo - Talk to someone from a tourist agency and plan your next visit to the peninsula. =)
I'll be in Tulum for 6 days in a few weeks I'll let you know how it goes and where to go when you guys decide to come back. I know that the ruins is just 1 thing to see in Tulum but theres other things, the town, the hotel zone, cenote other ruins too I believe Coba is one of them. Hope you guys give it another shot they said the ruins of Tulum since they are by the sea is the most picturesque place is Mexico. Also I heard the sunrises are amazing
I visited Tulum in the summer and it was so hot and humid! I would maybe go back in the winter. The ruins were cool to see but nothing like Chichen Itza :)
Public Beach, 'Paraiso' is one of the most stunning beaches on the planet and I lived in Hawaii. About $6-$8 US taxi ride from DT. Like ice cream. Great place near DT ADO.
Interesting video. If you want to visit other Mayan “jungly” ruins, I suggest Palenque, in Chiapas. It’s not on the coast but there is amazing architecture.
It's not taken as complaining, it is (much appreciated)(personal) honesty. ....and an apology for any ignoramuses that you guys, might of encountered along the way!
I usually go south with wife, travel all the route. Spending 2 hours for just tulum is not a good idea... I usally stay at Bacalar one day or two, than Mahaual, take a shower, travel to xel-ha and on the way stop by Tulum. After Xelha stop by Playa del carmen to sleep and refuel, have breakfast at the beach, walk by 5ta avenue at night. Then head back to Cancun. Cancun itself requires at least 4 days to enjoy. So many places to go.
That's the result of not using the expert knowledge of a tourist guide. I spent about 3 hours sightseeing the ruins in Tulum (after traveling many hours from Merida) and many more at the beach and had a great time. I guess Tulum is not for short trippers. To make the long trip worthwhile you have to give yourself the time to enjoy the wonderful waters of the Caribbean Sea and get to know the fascinating civilization of the Mayan people. If you ever go to Chichen Itza and Uxmal I hope you hire the help of a good tourist guide. A world of difference to see the stones plus their history behind. Happy travelings. Cheers.
With an expert tourist guide, probably even a bit more. I really hope if you get to visit the wonderful cities of Uxmal and Chichen-Itza you get the help of a tourist guide to really appreciate the wonders of these amazing Mayan abandoned places. By the way, if you have the chance, try to go to LAKE BACALAR, about 4 hours south from Cancun, but let me tell you, WORTH THE TRIP. There's nothing in Mexico close to the amazing beauty of that place, and NOT EXPENSIVE AT ALL. Keep enjoying beautiful Mexico. Cheers
Hey Greg, i give you an advice, if you are in any archeologycal site in the yucatan peninsula, always, always bring a 1.5 lt bottle of water with you, to be hydrated
PS..Been to Grande Cenote. Taken on day trip by MX amigos from Playa. A beautiful and spiritual day. Also it takes a couple visits to Tulum to understand it. DT has some amazing spots, shops, food and great little hotels for under $150.. Nice community once you see how it works. Even at beach one of the best hotels, I just booked for $160. Depends on season and demand. Prices at ruins are out of site. Feel taken at shops near ruins other than the ruins. I never bought anything there.
But you guys didn't even go into town!! The ruins are just the icing on the cake...you have to go to the southside of town where the locals live and the boutique style hotels are. Thats the true beauty of that town. And you'll def find cheaper/regular priced stuff! Also doing it on a bus is obviously kind of tough since it takes for ever. We always have a car and can cover more ground. Those 2 1/2 hours you mentioned, can be done in 1h 15mins in a car. Cars are also pretty cheap to rent down there.
Kinetic Kennons I'm in Tulum now and I feel the same as you! Cab pricey and it's hard to get places without it, especially if you don't drive! I'm going to try the colectivos. It's a charming town but not really for me.
That's a good question with a complicated answer haha. We showed up to a show two weeks ago and it was sold out. So for the next show we decided to buy our tickets online and they SOLD OUT TOO!! jaja. Long story short- we are trying to find a way to make it work finally haha
I hope that you do get to go soon! It's a very good production, the music, choreography and costumes awaken a sense of pride and respect for the strength and resilience and joy that permeates Mexican people and culture.
Kinetic Kennons my husband and I were in CDMX back in March and showed up 1 hr prior to the 9:30 am showing on a Sunday. We were able to buy 2 tickets. I highly recommend it. Greetings from Los Angeles, CA.
Have you guys been to La Paz Baja California Sur? It's my favorite place to go when I go down Mexico!! I am also planning to go to the Mayan Ruins in Yucatan.
i agree..you guys need yo go to veracruz..there s a cultural Festival (cumbre tajin)around arqueológical site name...Tajin..close to the municipality of papantla...it gets really crowded..u need to make hotel reservation s..in papantla..ahead of time..only during the cumbre tajin....rest of the year it's normal
You got that one right... I am with Guera on this... at least when I was there I felt the same way and it surprised me to see that you felt it too. Tulum made me feel very frustrated: the prices are just ridiculous... it is a nice place but way overpriced in my opinion. Resorts have taken over the beach side, for a very simple accommodation they charge you five star hotel prices, the food is insanely expensive and the service below the standard of the rest of the country. In my view a way to sum Tulum up is that what was a beautiful, magical place has been exploited by rude greedy people. And with so many beautiful places in the country where you can stay with kind people, good service, great food and affordable prices... who needs Tulum? Haha...
Kinetic Kennons I thought that too when I was in there! Haha... but I am afraid people there are abusing gueros willing to pay those prices and that brings up the worst attitude in them... as a Mexican that makes me really really sad. Thanks for being honest about it... The only way they will bring the prices down and improve their attitude is if we don’t pay those prices and you being transparent about it can only help. 🙌🏼❤️
Why do you say the prices are ridiculous? You can find a decent hotel for $600 pesos /night. And can buy anything at the local stores very close to the coast and in the center of the city, water bottles, snacks, and if you want to cook you can go to Chedraui which has great prices, even for clothes and btw the best souvenirs and cheap can also be found in Chedraui.
Frank Salce At the end of the day Tulum is still Mexico so yes, if you look for it you may find more affordable options. (After a few days in town I was able to find out an amazing place where they served the most amazing filling Mexican breakfast for an incredible price, but it took me some days of spending more to find it). What i mean is that when you compare searching for and finding affordable, reasonably priced options in Tulum to other places in Mexico, you find out that those options are not that easy to find in Tulum. It doesn’t help Tulum’s case that the beach front has been taken over by hotels and access to it is not as easy as in other beach sites in Mexico. Again it all comes down to comparisons... knowing what you can get elsewhere....if you want to be near the beach in Tulum prices are ridiculous (lodge and food wise)... while in places like Majahual you can have your own beach front personal cabin without having to pay your whole month salary for three days in. Can you find cheap options in Tulum? Definitely... but you will have to walk or bike long distances and spend a lot of time of your vacation time to get a cheap bottle of water, a decent breakfast and to get to the beach everyday. As our dear Kennons say, maybe it is because we’ve been spoiled by other places... after you have enjoyed spending the day on the beach and been served a feast of seafood for two for 100 pesos, cocktails and beers coming to you all day long right on the beach... walking two or three miles to Chedraui for a bottle of water doesn’t seem a better prospect.
If you wanna see Mayan pyramid go to palenque in the state of Chiapas Mexico, you will find a pyramid called (the temple of the inscriptions) and many more
Do you guys ever dip down into Belize? I heard the ruins near San Ignacio are amazing and you don't have to deal with as many tourists. Plus, having up to 10 grams of weed is legal. Get baked/ explore ruins=win/win.
Great Video. We stayed in Cancun and went to Tulum for 1day. It was fun and nice to see although I agree with you. We have been to Playa Del Carmen before and in this winter we are going back a third time to Mexico. Any suggestion where we should stay this time? Love Mexico and Mexicanos!!! Greetings from Sweden.
wow-a third trip! We recommend Puerto Vallarta. We are completely partial to there because we lived there for a year or so. Its on the pacific coast. The people there are INCREDIBLE. Stay in the downtown area-you will love it!
Feliz Friday amigos!
Gracias a Dios es Viernes!

Kinetic Kennons YOU too Gollito and werita 👍👍👍👍👸😎
Yes!!! The new Mayan channel
you missed the Tulum boutique hotel area, that's where the fun's at
Your honesty is so refreshing.

aww! Thank you so much--your comment is so nice!
Tulum are the only ruins on the beach and are situated in a strategic spit because it was used for navigation like a light house.
La guera will become movie star for sure! you are learning a lot of the Mexican Culture great video Greetings from Idaho USA
She really will!! We are learning so much so fast but we still have a ton to learn and a ton to see. But we are up for to the task!

so do you all like the beach life better than say mexico city life
connie munoz - I hope you enjoy living in Mérida
How awesome!
Welcome to Merida. I hope you all of you guys enjoy my city.
Hey guys i really like your honesty about tolum and keep on exploring mexico and making them good videos.
That best way to understand why, where, how and what, is getting a guide tour on Tulun or any other Mayan ruins.
Gracias amigos, friends.
Yeah I agree with all you guys said. Tulum is very touristy and that makes it very expensive.

You can go by air with Interjet when they have the 70% disccount days, directly from Mexico City to Palenque Chiapas for $950 pesos the flight or less
I enjoyed a lot Tulum when I visited 7 years ago. I arrived at 6:30 am and I was the first to be there that day. I joined a couple of Europeans and we had a good time without any more tourists.
Love Tulum!! Beware of the iguanas! Those things are huge!
No kidding!! They are amazing!!
They don’t bite... I hope

Try Oaxaca state. It’s big, awesome, it has great food, a ton of culture, ancient ruins, and it is very affordable, plus it also has a seaside
We can't wait to go to Oaxaca!
Saludos amigos Kinetic Kennons, sigan disfrutando su paseo 😉😘😘

I loved the video, my favorite gringos, saludos Kennons😀
Thank you so much:)
Go to Guatemala! If you guys want to explore a real Mayan City. Highly recommended!
I visited Tulum in the summer and it was so hot and humid! I would maybe go back in the winter. The ruins were cool to see but nothing like Chichen Itza :)
it was super hot during our time there too!
Hacen buenos videos me gustan mucho❤
Saludos desde Estado de México
Guera, I'm surprised that Aztec dancars haven't recruited you with those dance moves.
Jajaja I have aa feeling she will be in full costume dancing like los Aztecas before we know it!
I totaly agree with you guys, I think is nice to go and see the mayas architecture the beach the jungle but it's so expensive and thats the problem.
thanks for showing me how beautiful tulum is will need to get there soon
I love you so much videos about of Mexico 🇲🇽
Thank you so much amigo!!
Palenque ruins from Chiapas are also great and interesint to visit.
SOoo much to see!!!
You need to visit and swim in the cenotes. I dont know how to swim, but theyre impresive.
It's not taken as complaining, it is (much appreciated)(personal) honesty.
....and an apology for any ignoramuses that you guys, might of encountered along the way!
Makes sense, Tulum is a place you visit once you been to Chichen Itza lol
Buen video amigos muy bello el paisaje.
Love your honest reviews
Thanks for your encouragement!
Nice shirt dude I bought the same one at TARGET. Love those shirts. I need to visit Mexico.
Totally agree. We went when almost no one was there and it felt desolate.
We need to go back already to see all of the things that we missed!!
Cheers.
Three hours? If I am being completely honest, I do not think I would have enjoyed wandering around the ruins for that long.
Cheers
disfruten sus vacasiones buen video 👍
Thak you 🤗for all you videos
Thanks for coming along with us!
Cars are also pretty cheap to rent down there.
we couldn't afford the cab prices to even get into town!
Kinetic Kennons I'm in Tulum now and I feel the same as you! Cab pricey and it's hard to get places without it, especially if you don't drive! I'm going to try the colectivos. It's a charming town but not really for me.
I like this channel i think it's pretty interesting how two gringos live in Mexico and live there life
Thanks!
U needed to go to tulum beach and view the pyramids while in the water. One of a kind experience.
We need more people like this fine people in the world, welcome to MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much Eduardo!
Kinetic Kennons my pleasure
Did you guys give up on going to the Ballet Folklorico de Amalia Hernandez at Bellas Artes? :(
That's a good question with a complicated answer haha. We showed up to a show two weeks ago and it was sold out. So for the next show we decided to buy our tickets online and they SOLD OUT TOO!! jaja. Long story short- we are trying to find a way to make it work finally haha
Kinetic Kennons that's great to hear. Please keep trying, you cannot miss it!
Ustedes son los numero 1
Muchas gracias Alejandro!!
Next time, visit the ruins of Ek Balam. Check the photos, it's near Valladolid, on the way to Mérida from Cancún. Amazing site.
Those ruins are picturesque, especially with the ocean next to them.
Have you guys been to La Paz Baja California Sur? It's my favorite place to go when I go down Mexico!! I am also planning to go to the Mayan Ruins in Yucatan.
we haven't been there...yet!
How can you afford to live on permanent vacation?
With money
we find cheap flights/buses and we find ways to stay at hotels for free:)
i agree..you guys need yo go to veracruz..there s a cultural Festival (cumbre tajin)around arqueológical site name...Tajin..close to the municipality of papantla...it gets really crowded..u need to make hotel reservation s..in papantla..ahead of time..only during the cumbre tajin....rest of the year it's normal
Haha...
haha that is unfortunate that it happened to you too Laura! We were hoping everybody was just in a bad mood that day haha
I'll just left this right here ;)
different weather,different culture,different geography = different architecture
Try to go to playa del carmen on your back to Cancun (if you're going back that way)
Your daily videos make my day, thank you! The ruins
You guys should visit the state of Aguascalientes...their world famous fair starts tomorrow FERIA NACIONAL DE SAN MARCOS April14-May 6
We hope to be able to go!
If you wanna see Mayan pyramid go to palenque in the state of Chiapas Mexico, you will find a pyramid called (the temple of the inscriptions) and many more

4:14 ¡Viva México! jajaja
Do you guys ever dip down into Belize? I heard the ruins near San Ignacio are amazing and you don't have to deal with as many tourists. Plus, having up to 10 grams of weed is legal. Get baked/ explore ruins=win/win.
Why didn't you elaborate on what happened in Tulum, with the people?
Nothing happened in particular to elaborate on!
You have to go to Palenque!!!
I use Bing. :)
Great. Job guys

The ruins the beach the cenotes definitely a must see.
