    I noticed when sawing big logs, you're avoiding the edge of the saw that has the largest teeth. You might have faster results if you use all the blade.

    Hi, greetings from a fellow Dutchman. I like Silky saws, especially the Hayauchi pole saws. I never tried a KatanaBoy but now I feel like I´ll have to. Though I guess for me the 500 will be big enough.

    WOOOT! I have the Silky Katanaboy 650 and it is a huge beast! And this is even bigger! Awesome! But you are right, it is made for cross cutting large trees. The teeth size and the Teeth Per Inch are simply too low to saw small stock.

    Greatest hand saw on Earth! I am an ISA Arborist and tree climber with 12 years experience, and the reason why myself (and everybody else in the industry) use Silky Saws is because they are superior in every way, to every saw, every where. Props to Sweden for Fanno saws, though.

    So guys, for a serious outdoor long term saw blade, what do you recommend: Katanaboy 500, 650 or 1000? Pros and Cons. I'm in doubt between 650 and 1000. The 1000 is a exaggerated for me.

    When you guys got the Bark river gunny Scandi, did you need to reprofile it? Does it work very well out of the box? And does the skerper (Eden quality) stropping compound work well with cpm 3v?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 років тому

      Hey frederik, the eden compound works on 3v but it's kinda its limit. Bark river compound does a much faster job with 3v. The only gunny scandi we have belonged to virtuovice who had already sharpened it so we don't know

    I know it’s kind of unorthodox, but could you shows us what the best way to sharpen a really long blade like a Katana would be?
    Because of it’s sheer length, would sharpening it with a water stone like any “knife-sized” knife really be as efficient???

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 років тому +1

      If the katana or blade is cheap a belt grinder would be best. I have some 1500 grit belts that leave a very nice polish. For a expensive katana it would be blasphemy haha you would use water stones and a lot of patience

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 років тому

      it's the same as AUS-Mod8. it's a very tough stainless steel. It's easy to sharpen but the edge retention is mediocre. It's a great steel for bigger blades that have to take a lot of stress

    MY KATNABOY 500 seems so small now.
    However, why go with a 14" wooden bow saw and a Openell #12 fodling saw instead?
    1. The Silky has Japanese back-pull teeth, VERY HARD TO SHARPEN.
    The file on your Leatherman tool is all you need to sharpen the bow saw.
    2. The Silky is TOO large to use on smaller branches without whipping around on you
    While the Openel is perfect for small stuff.
    3. When the Silky breaks, and eventually it will, how will you repair it?
    The bow saw is a wooden frame when it breaks, you can make a new frame out of the dry-wood you find. You just need: an ax, a draw-knife, a bush-crafting knife, and a pocket whitling knife.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
