2022 and 2020 were nice mixes of rap and singing, 2021 was singing and all the others are pure raps
2021 was a rap. They were rhyming which is what a rap is. Besides it was the coolest one.

I don't know if it was already said or not but the ratings on the video is the opinion of the person who made the video so it isn't based on any criteria. It's just a way to show how much the person liked each songs. And in case somebody asks me where i got that from, it's the pinned comment on the original video.
Ahhh okay. I agree with the 10/10 rating for 2020.

I feel like knowing the context of the arcs adds more to the rap battles, as someone who has watched every arc, knowing the arc and everything that has happened it really adds more to the experience

Something to always note in the future to differentiate SMG4 and SMG3: 4's overalls are white, 3's are black.
I believe with it being the Evolution of Rap Battles, the fact that it shys away from always being a rap battle makes it okay that it's not all traditional rap battles. I think we all assume that the songs are a rap battle because that's how it started and that's how it has always been. WOTFI starts with some part of story, many challenges and then a "rap battle." That was buried in our mind from 2015-2019. 2020 (and a little bit of 2019) felt like an experiment to move away from rap battles when Meggy finally got her human voice. And you're right, it's entertaining which is their ultimate goal ("Our mission is to Laugh, Enjoy and Inspire" - WOTFI 2022). I don't feel like they want to make a career in rapping and is probably why (minus Bob's rapping career arc) they limit it to once a year.
I think the newer songs still have some of the original rap battle spark but it’s moved past that.
All that matters is that the target audience has a good time which I’m sure we all do!

@@K1NGMAK3R_Reacts Oh for sure. Zero (2021) and Objection (2022) are my favorites of the bunch. I don't hate the rest and even reminisced when rewatching the Waluigi Arc Rap Battle (2018), but I definitely enjoy the direction Glitch Productions/SMG4 has decided to take things with the current songs.

Well for me i love all of them except 2015 and 2016. And i dont even care if It a rap battle or just a normal song, i enjoy them everytime.
Right now i've realized that in all of them (Except 2015 and 2016) i was there when they premiered.

While I respect your opinion, I'd say the 2021 wotfi *was* a rap, solely because it was the first wotfi i saw, along with being one of my favorites, with 2017, 2020. and 2022 tying for first place.

My personal favorite was 2021 i know its not technicly a rap battle but that song SLAPS SO HARD!

I think the problem all the rap battles that aren't just mario vs smg4 is there all arc related and usually what's finishes the arc as they be using wotfis for a lot of arcs to finish it. The only acepptions I would think to the arc related one would be Smg3s and maybe stretching it waluigis and maybe lawyer kongs (also the 10/10 rating might have given due to what happens in the arc and that influenced the rankings of it instead of just the rap battle) I was actually thinking then I saw this video how be nice to see something one doesn't know the complete story of the arcs so that the rating ain't basis from what happened during the arc. What is your final ranking for these rap battles
I’d have to rewatch to give them an accurate rating I do how ever feel 2020 was phenomenal and deserved a 10/10
I know you're saying you can't rhyme tion with tion but most of them had just a tad more going on with each tion. "Violence, seperATION, non-negitiATION, is this segregATION peace for our nATION?" "From eldritch incanTATIONS, greedy expecTATIONS" then mid-verse it changes to "Hate, love, and reJECTION! O-O-ObJECTION!" the only time I don't think the tions work is during the third run of them with "Halt with your elation, and your litigations, parody citation refutes these actions!" and the only reason is the actions at the end. and then they come back with another good one with the final "Stupid imitATIONS, fun exaggerATIONS" with another flip "Proving their protECTION! O-O-Objection!"
please see this km this is only including WOTFIs, which is why some are more plot oriented
I feel like at some point Glitch stopped simply considering them Rap Battles, and just songs.

2019: better rhyme style, but they failed the mission
2020: better rhymes with multiple characters
2021: it's amazing but... it's not a rap battle lol
2022: oh no ion rhymes used wrong :( funky/lawyer kong went god mode with the ing rhymes tho
