Wow. I thought that your videos would be great for the future generations to see how our wonderful city used to be. Sorry, I was wrong. It also brings back lovely memories for us that are here now. That was fascinating. The memory for me was meeting my father in law (who worked at Victoria) after his shift had finished and going for a few scoops in the railway men's club down them stairs opposite the station entrance. Thanks for taking me back to those great times Clarky. Keep going R-kid.
Well, I’m a 56 year old woman and I should be outraged or at the very least saying “ Oh you silly lads. You could hurt yourselves!” But guess what? I love, love , love your work. I was glued to it and totally get your enthusiasm and excitement! I too love old buildings and mysterious places and, trust me, I’d be there with you, if I could ( maybe with a flask of tea and a first aid box though) . I’m from Manchester (God’s own city 😄💕) but now live in Liverpool. My husband recently had to survey an empty Georgian townhouse and let me go along too. I was in my element, mooching into every corner. Loved it, so yes, I get your obsession. Keep it up, but stay safe! Just subscribed. X

Great video, very interesting. The room you describe as once housing a full scale model railway was actually the signalling school. I actually visited and saw it in action in the 1960s. Up until about 7 years ago it was in the National Railway Museum. I assume it is still there but it was seven years ago I last visited York.
I lived in Salford all my life and at 56 it blows my mind that these things are still here out of sight, it literally is a forgotten world right under our feet, just amazing...
Thank you guys for another great video. And what a magnificent building !!!! So much history. Really like the way you put the old photos in, gives a lot of perspective to what we're seeing. And the river that runs beneath, OMG !!!!
Yeah, it was quite unexpected, to say the least, I was in awe, to be honest, and the cavernous culvert it ran through truly enhanced its roar! Thanks for watching anyway Ian and for the fantastic the feedback tk care m8.
Omg, the old railway club my gran used to work there behind the bar & doing the food in the kitchen. I used to go with my mam when I was a young girl, my mam used to clean the place, when I got older I used to go drinking in the old railway club myself, so nostalgic, great work lads.👍👍
One of the best explores I have seen. I am impressed by your good camera work and all the detail you capture, and the fact that you explain everything at a nice pace. Keep up the fantastic work.
That was so cool seeing parts of Victoria Station that nobody gets to see, the history of the place is huge, I'm sure there was an old graves from the plague found there once. I used to work in the restaurant when it was Travellers Fare years ago and its weird seeing the changes to the Station
I bet if the maintenance team had to visit the basement that day you two were filming, they would have had a heart attack and got back to ground level in a heartbeat. Superb video and a credit to you both for taking the time snd energy filming. The money that could be generated if British rail did show around!!!
Absolutely engrossed just watching your explore Clarky. Never disappoint . Your are thorough, professional, like a historian and your humour with many videos and commentating is brilliant. What a stunning huge building, I never realised about any of it underground. It kept giving. Someone once tried explain to me, When we hear of underground Manchester. It’s us above. Down there was ground level. (In bygone years). I still cannot understand how nowadays built above it, if true what I was told !!! Lol. thoroughly yet again enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much m8 we’ve just released a black and white uncut version of this film and yea Manchester is quite literally built on stilts above the old streets etc. There hundreds is secret passageways and tunnels to be uncovered and we are going to uncover them ;)
For over 40 years I have used this station, and I never knew about all this space underground, it could be used as mini workshops or assembly work, I am blown away with it all really, I used to like caves as a kid.
Before the station was rebuilt with the arena above there used to be a subway from opposition the dome cafe that gave access to the platforms then numbered 11 to 16. About half way along this underground passage there was a little wooden door near floor level and behind it was a large well which formed part of the water supply for Boddingtons brewery. This whole part of the old station was built on a plague pit and burial ground of the workhouse and chapel that was there even before the railway was built.
They’ve done up Victoria station nice now, I remember that little barber/beautician shop opposite the station. I’m surprised it’s still there, thought it’d be gone by end of the hacienda Madchester days. Good to see it still thriving, I had my hair cut there once back in the early 90s 😊

I've had many a good pint of Boddingtons bitter in that Staff Club. I think from memory that the wording over that archway might actually read Bottling Store. Back in the 1970s we were installing a fire alarm system in the building and had to find every room and space and there were quite a lot of rooms in the basement used as storage for the refreshment rooms and former first class restaurant.
Some of the unoccupied property above the station would be worth a fortune as an office development or even residential, witness the large blocks of flats recently constructed next to the platforms for Metrolink
