I am largely a melodic death metal and electronic musician, and though I have a large scale studio setup with heavyweight DAW's, hardware etc., I will still use Caustic as my drum machine for many years to follow. *This app is important because a few years of use will make you someone to be taken seriously in a hands on studio.*
@@Retrogamer71 Yeah, it could definitely use improvement. You can do a lot with it in its current state, but it has the potential to be much better. This is why it's so unfortunate that it's no longer being developed. I understand that the original dev has moved on to other things, but it would be so fantastic if they handed it off to another developer or team to continue the project.
It's the end of 2022 and it still rules. So much fun, and based on real hw flow ... so there's no better tool to start with. If you reach a level , when you want to go deeper .. there's also Sunvox. (or for retro chiptune enthusiasts .. there's also Deflemask. )
It's not a company, single cell software was one guy and I think the reason it's not maintained is that he got a 'proper' job. There is an online Caustic community at singlecell software.

I only wish the piano roll (both for instruments and in the song sequencer) could be zoomed in and out and moved around freely with multi-touch. I have kept an ios device around solely for music apps. Caustic is amazing but sequencing anything longer than a couple bar loop drives me crazy. Thats my only complaint.
I agree. It's a great mobile app. I have the paid app on four devices and two are midi'd into keyboards and sequencers, the other two provide back beats. I run it all into Ableton for audio recording.

@@NeonArtifact Hi Charles. Two controllers are MIDI'd into two devices running caustic. The other two tablets running caustic are simply providing a beat. The audio of all four is going into my mixing board and from there into Ableton for recording. Audio recording.

@@NeonArtifact I haven't used Andrews apps nor do I currently use any Apple products. That said it is on the backburner to convert all my music making to an Apple based ecosystem. As far as Caustic for Android I have no complaints. Like I said, I paid for the pro version and on top of that despite all the free sound packs I even paid for a couple that I really liked. I had to use a dongle between the controller's midi USB cord and my tablet. It's a converter. It converts standard USB size to micro-usb size. That's the key to connecting controllers to tablets and running MIDI on them. I hope that helps. I am not the best at writing things down. Maybe I should do a How-To video.
bruh as soon as Gabe hit me with the Synthwave and the beats I knew I just HAD to download this app cause after Groovepad was removed from Playstore I sad cause that's where I made some of my best test beats but now I found this and now I'm happy again :3
A long time caustic user here (3 years) Yes! the app is very good and the developer has kinda become busy with other stuff, the app is so good that sometimes people don't know that i use a mobile for it :D, I could send you some projects of mine to mess around with for free if you want!
I'd like to know if you can really really midi control every parameter in order to make it work with a complex midi controller in kind of hardware style with the less touchscreen needed.... it would be perfect because i would build a diy standalone studio with it :D

What I really wanna see in the future version of Caustic is audio import - Load WAV or MP3 files directly to a track without using PCMSynth or Beatbox.
The workflow is so easy. It's all I use. The only thing I got gripes with is that in the sequence editor you can't shorten the pattern block from the front. Then also you can't shorten the pattern block less than one bar in the sequence editor either. You have to actually make those parts. Other than that, it's the best free Daw in my opinion. Windows 3.2 I'm referring to.
There is a free full Windows version, fun if you have a 2-in-1 laptop with touchscreen. And I think one of the highly is you can build your own rack for very specific sound design.
Caustic is a great music production app., but unfortunately, it doesn't work on MacOS 10.15 Catalina or later. In addition, Caustic works well on Windows 10.

Problem ist leider, das die angebotenen kostenpflichtigen sample Packs mitunter einfach aus dem playstore verschwinden können. Hatte das leider, bezahlt und musste eines Tages ein neues Handy kaufen und das Pack war nicht mehr zu bekommen obwohl es bezahlt war, das waren zwar nur knapp 4€,aber es ist ärgerlich

@@rockman49er Nope. I still think you only need the cable I mentioned to connect the controller to your phone. I think the only reason why you might need other equipment is if you want an external power source rather than draining your phone's battery. I keep meaning to order the cable but I never get round to actually doing it. If I do ever order one I'll try to remember your post and I'll let you know if it worked.
Unfortunately the new Android update has killed the app on my phone and it looks like the company behind it no longer exists. Really sad to see it all go to waste.
I used to use Caustic all the time It's incompatible with the latest Android versions, although there is a work-around to use the sample folder I find that way too tedious though, & as you mentioned the "flow state" I find it really takes away from that fluidity it once had
THIS. I hate the fact that Google keeps f*cking us over on android. They had a perfectly good ecosystem in my opinion, and now they're locking us out of our own folders on our phones. That just sucks. I wish I could use caustic again, but it's just not fun and intuitive anymore with all of those workarounds you have to do in order to use it in full. :/

Very nice but what I wished to have is some app with drum loops, I choose the appropriate drum loop and record a song. This is very useful to capture whatever music comes to your mind if you are a music creator. I was using such application with my Iphone (Music notes app) but couldn't find the equivalent for Android. Anyone if you know such app for android please share. Thanks.
Yes! Its actually pretty good... I use an old samsung tablet with android 4.4.2..Its not really laggy because it was really made in old versions of android...
Hello.. im new to daw and im looking for a good portable daw(android) . I heard lots of good things in caustic. But i tried it (demo version) it the latency really hurt me.. im not evem using midi keyboard yet, just the onscreen keys amd the latency is really there
I tried a bit when I first got the Tracks, but I couldn't get it to work over USB. You might have to get a 5pin midi adapter for your phone, and I'd triple check that Caustic receives midi in that way.

Caustic ist wirklich top, habe die Android Version seit etwa 2015 mit dem Android key und auch für den PC habe ich es. Für Mac gibt es das auch. Für die Rechner kostenlos ohne Einschränkungen und die Android Version mit key kostet ca. 6€? Schade nur das der saw synth nur für die Android Version dabei ist. Ganz tolle Software

it has built int audio editor and the pcm synth can be loaded similar to sampler... .. for longest playback ( such as long vocal track ) i think the vocoder is used ( you can always try pc version for free)

Audio Evolution is by far the best mobile DAW I have used on android. Caustic is great too...just not for recording audio. Great vids, thanks!

If I recall correctly, you can download a PC version of Caustic. I don't think it's supported anymore, but it should hopefully still be up.
