Oh I feel for you Mike. I remember when I lived in Michigan it got that cold and our fuel oil froze and I got up to a very cold house. We had to have our tank drained and a hotter fuel oil put in which could only be used once as it was a dangerous fuel in warmer winters. I have never forgotten how cold it was and I had babies at the time,

Our farm is off a gravel road in southeast iowa. The nearby highways have been impassable for a couple of days. The driveway was drifted in and in places it was four or five feet deep. Windchill about -45 degrees. The John Deere tractor is open station, no cab. Anyway, it took about three hours to clear it to the road using the front loader. Of course the road is totally impassable. So, we’re stranded but so far the electricity is still on and we have enough food to last till the spring thaw.

You know what I just seen on ( Life on Marrow Hill) as they were getting ready for there cold weather coming in! BRI at her place wrapped her water pump thats outside w/ by putting straw in a pillow case, but definitely make sure that you have string so you can tie it up after you put it over the water pump, this helps it from freezing up!😊😊

Hi Mike, FYI you shouldn't leave plastic net or twine where the cattle have access to eat. It could cause plastic poisoning/netwrapposis, and death. I make sure I account for every string of the wrapping when feeding a bale. Good luck, be safe.
PS, I found out about plastic poisoning in cattle by asking Google about it. I recommend you do the same if you think differently.

Yeah, it's a battle. I was emptying fryer oil at the store this morning (not brutally cold 5F). The store's Gas Meter was going 40/50, "click, click". I don't know what that means, but the cost of heating buildings has to be high. Anyway, here in MN, I did that boiling water trick once. It's like making your own Colombo white cloud 6' feet from you! lol

I'm from Sheridan, WY so I understand about freezing pipes and all the "fun" things that happen to pipes, fuel, etc. Here in Flagstaff AZ we also have weather and have learned the hard way about keeping the faucet(s) furthest away from the hot water heater/pump either dripping or a small steady stream of hot water running. It's a huge help and helps to keep the pipes from freezing. It's always amazed me that the hot water is what freezes, not the cold....unless it's as cold as your area is getting. Take care and hope you and the animals keep safe.

I was starting to think about your calving season coming soon and tuned in. Then I seen your goodbye video. I do hope you do find a way to make great content for the other channel. Mike, your voice and radio experience is what made this channel so enjoyable to watch. The education on cattle farming was interesting. I have had family that had cattle, and they never educated me about the farm. When I was 11 years old, my stepdad was building a coal fired energy plant in Montana, so the Wyoming weather took me back in time.
I wish your family the best with their farm. I will miss you all. Maybe the cows will appreciate not being so famous. Goodbye everyone and good luck.

It's below freezing here this week too but I dont think i could survive in your weather. All my RA and OA hurts so much in cold or wet weather. I admire you working in such cold weather. Sending prayers for you and your family as well as all the animals to stay well in this awful weather!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I bought my son a battety pack coat/jacket for Christmas. It has a warm heating coils/pad across chest and back. Bought him one extra battery too. He works outside in this weather sometimes 14 to 16 hours a day. He has battery socks too. He loves them. It's in the teens degrees here this week. I know you'remuch colder there. Get them! Please. I’m working on that next too much. I’ve been in a car accident real bad I was in my wheelchair and I was crossing the road and I looked both way and everything and the lady had frogs on the window again and she’s going too fast and she came out of nowhere, and I would fly a beat in the air wheelchair the VA bought for me wheelchair fall apart but I get to watch your video and that makes my day and I’m not good at being online. I’m definitely going to order something in the next two months from you guys cause I’ve been involved with you years I miss Matt Matt, Mike help me a lot and your family. I’ve been a lot a lot last month we had a kid in my town and we had a house for couple days. Chaos here we going to major flooding spending time in the hospital I fracture both my hips and lower back and my neck pain, I’ll make it through it but you help me make it through it so that’s a blessing and a half so thank you, Michael, Aaron and your kids and I can’t wait for the 3030 I started with you I’m not a rich man I don’t have a lot of money but I buy some slim Jim, so that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m working on it, you keep on doing your job I know it’s hard but I have faith in you

Here in Central Texas we are supposed to get down to 15 degrees tonight and tomorrow the high is only going to be 21! The wind is supposed to blow hard all night too. My husband is going to really rev up the wood stove. We have electric heat but it runs all night full blast and still feels cool so the wood stove is the solution. We are fortunate in that we did Pex plumbing when we built the house so our lines wont freeze and break like so many people's plumbing does here.

Mike ....you should have a scarf around your neck...it would help keep the cold air off the neck.

You have us beat in the St. Louis Metro! I was out feeding our chickens and I was ready to come inside after a minute lol. Any thought to adding a zipper hoodie to shop? For those that have some sort issue pulling on full hoodies, as I have nerve damage in my right arm, having a zipper hoodie would be nice in having.

-35 C as a high here for the last several days, and -44 C overnight. Makes me wonder why we live here. Somewhere with palm trees looks better every year.

Electric socks and gloves are the best. Makes a huge difference in your ability to stay outside longer. I’m guessing since you’re using the 4 wheeler that the Gator is broken yet again?

You need to get automatic gate openers/closers with solar power. A OK farmer uses them. His channel is Hidden Heights Farm.

Mike you need to cover your face out there!
We get below zero sometimes here in NH, but not that far below. When I drove school bus we had block heaters and we had to make sure we plugged them in during the winter and even at that they sometimes didn’t want to start
