As a 80s Chinese kid. Wukong is hella emotional if you know the story. More emotional to me than God of War Ragnarök. I get that if you don’t know Journey to the West story (and the vast majority of non Asian people don’t) the story of Wukong will most likely fly over your head. And on the boss rush gameplay. I think only chapter 1 and chapter 5 fits that description. Because those are the chapters with smaller maps. Chapter 2-3-4 have quite large maps, not open world but large instances and chapter 6 a non chapter, it’s just the final boss fight with some side content. I’m so nostalgic that It’s maybe my game of the year. Rebirth is also super nostalgic. It’s hard for me to choose between those two.

I’m Japanese, and know the story well, but I think the game was just solid. Combat was little simplistic to be considered great, and the level design was really mediocre. Boss design is their strongest point, but the game doesn’t provide too much outside of it. All the way to the west is a childhood story, but it’s just one of many kids story and don’t have emotional attachment toward it (at least in Japan).

Yeah imo phantom liberty is easily better and changed the game for the better, Shadow of the Erdtree just felt like more elden ring and still can't hit 60fps unless you play the ps4 version on ps5
Phantom Liberty was nominated in 4 categories last year. Best ongoing (which it won), Best narrative, best performance for Idris Elba, and player's voice category as well. Player's voice meaning that completely free of the voting committee it could have won the award just from gamers voting for it. It didn't because BG3 exists. It was eligible for GOTY it just didn't make the cut as 2023 was literally a historic year for games.
I think one thing to note with Black Myth: Wukong's nomination is that I suspect there's a big divide between the Anglosphere votes for it and the non-Anglo votes. The reception in the West was much milder, and I wouldn't personally have expected it to be nominated based on exposure to mostly English-speaking social media. I felt this stream VOD was more interesting and in a way wholesome and industry affirming than I'd ever feel about actual awards. It's a bunch of people voting for whatever, for whatever reasons they have. As an everyday Joe Gamer, it's nothing I need to put much stock into. Of course it's nice when games that I love win in any category, but if anything else wins, at worst, I scratch my head and shrug. Unless the awards are more focused on not the obvious bread winners of the year that mostly require no further recognition, then there's more at stake because a lot of nominated games and their makers stand to gain serious recognition they might not have had prior. In general it's nice to see the actual game makers of any discipline getting recognized, especially when they get to do acceptance speeches.
But Astro Bot is only on PS. Is that enough to get enough votes? Majority of players that vote are mostly PC gamers, and they don't play on PS. I agree that the game is dope, but the audience of it is a lot smaller.
The way it worked last year was that players count as 10% and the critics count as 90%. If most players voting only play on Nintendo it wouldn't be enough to stop an Xbox or Playstation game from winning.

do we not all have some sort of a bias? the noms are very solid
@@amwazdraws6890 better be blood core. Where you make mechas out of wagons, wood and coal power.
Holy shit, if d.s2660 ain't watching these awards are truly cooked. I guess I shouldn't watch either but what if there's a GTA 6 trailer, a guy running up on stage, or a funny speech that gets cut short. Thank you so much for letting us know, we'll miss you 🥲❤️🩹
I felt this stream VOD was more interesting and in a way wholesome and industry affirming than I'd ever feel about actual awards.
Granted you do need to keep an eye on the show for new games and trailers and live audience reactions
I'd vote for Counter-Strike for best eSports. But I refuse to support calling it that. It's Counter-Strike 5!
I loved Quantum Break!
if black myth wukong is repititive, why did it got so many overwhelming positive reviews? wtf lmao
Marvel movies are repetitive and get overwhelming positive reviews.
@@zac-1 so being repititive doesnt stop a game from being goty got it
it looks good, the enemy design is very interesting and some bosses are very cool, but still the combat was repetitive and many bosses were a joke.
@amwazdraws6890 "many bosse were a joke" u mean skill issue. Combat was repeitive as if Elden Ring doesnt lmao
@@thegreatimu lol they were a joke as in I first tried them, because they only do the same two attacks
Another Elden Ring drama
How doesnt D4 deserve ongoing, they put out a huge expansion in 1 year
Was the expansion better received than the other games in the category?
because it has invisible walls its not goty lmao gtfo I wonder if she thinks bmw doesnt deserve to be nominated because of the invisible walls as well
bro be normal lol it is not that deep. there is obviously a lot more to it than having invisible walls
