Perfect timing Grant! I'm a couple of steps (and a couple of weeks) behind you, refinishing a badly corroded C22 keel. You've given me several useful hints. Thanks. I'm looking forward to watching you replace the cable too.
@@SailingtheWestWind I also bought a catalina 22 swing keel. Needs the new hanger and winch I have 2200$ dollars in parts for the boat your videos are good
I would use total boat “Total Fair” compound. It’s a two-part compound made specifically for that. I would not use Bondo. Fiberglass may not stick to the metal keel. I have had great results with total boat products. I used both products on my big book. Again I purchased through Jamestown distributors.
This is beyond helpful for me as my keel looks worse than yours, but my boat looks good (exterior). Did you go to a special kind of Machinest as I can see them not wanting to handle something so heavy?? Is there a bushing originally or is the pin supposed to be of a lubricious metal? I suspect mine will need it and so I want to be ready to tell the Machinest what material the bushing needs to be made from.
To kill is cast iron. It’s not very easy to weld. I took mine to a machine shop that had a crane to pull the swing kill out of the back of my pick up. Again it weighs 550 pounds. I suppose if you find the right drill bit you might be able to drill out the bushing You purchase from Catalina Direct. I just didn’t wanna take any chances. I think it was like $150.
nice
Thanks. Hope it helps

I love that extra stout set of saw horses. I can't see a screw or a nail anywhere on them. how are they fastened? Plans?
Super helpful thank you

@@jpotlover I appreciate it very much. Anything else you may want a video on?
@@SailingtheWestWind lines to cockpit would be nice.
@@jpotlover I will try to put a video out for you.
When the keel was sanded down to metal, could fiberglass and a "bondo" type filler be used to smooth the keel before adding the Total Boat?

You can purchase the swing, kill bushing, new pens, and knew Settles from Catalina Direct.
Do I purchase "Total Boat" at Amazon, West Marine, Catalina Direct, ...? My keel looks way worse than yours!
Jamestown Distributors is where I get mine. Jamestown and total boat are part of the same company. Great customer service.
